Title: Oh God! Please Help!
Post by: RadATI on March 14, 2006, 06:11:00 PM
2 weeks ago, I ordered an Samsung DLP HL-R6178W and no matter what res. I play my Xbox on, there's always a shitty 1 second delay in addition to current delay.

EX. I pull fire button and nothing happens until 1+ seconds later! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!

It does have an 1080p upscaler but does that have anything to do with the late reactions on the TV?

Feed back is greatly appreaciated. Thanks.

ps. I would put this on hardware forums but more people read this one so admin, please don't move this.  sad.gif

edit: It's not 0.5 seconds, it's 1!!!!!!  grr.gif

They get moved for a reason.. hence the pinned topic in 360 General Chat addressing that.

Moving to A/V Technical.

Just because more people will view it in the general 360 section, does not mean that you will get quality answers.  Hence the Hardware A/V forums; people here know what they are talking about, so this is your best bet.

I have no answer to your question, because i have never experience any sort of delay on any HDTV.

you sure the only game youve played isnt GRAW because that game has a 1 second delay in firing.

maybe it wasnt such a good deal tongue.gif

seriously I really doubt it should have a 1 second delay, I have heard of a few HDTVs having lag when upconverting 480p.

but I really think your tv may be faulty... hopefully you have warrenty on it.

in any reviews i have found noone mentions lag

here is a cnet review of the larger 67" version (inards are bassically the same)

Wow.  you really should have done your homework before spending all that cash on a TV.  I was researching the Samsung 56in DLP some time ago.  After some research on the net, I found out about video lag and boy was I glad I researched.

I ended up buying a Hitachi 55in and have no problems with game play.

I know it's a bit late for advice, but I would NEVER buy a TV for gaming without bringing my 360 into the store and testing it out.   During my recent HDTV purchase, I spent a good four hours in the store testing out the different models in vga and component, 720p and 1080i, adjusting the color, tint and backlight.   If you can, return it and start over again.

Yes EXACTLY the Samsung DLPs are notorious for lagging like crazy... if you're a gamer I wouldn't touch one with a 10 foot pole. You know it's bad news when it has an audio feed back loop to delay your audio to match the delay it's creating in the video...

The only advice I can give is to take it back for a different model and do your homework next time.

who care's if you get funny stares hauling your Xbox to the store, would you rather make another bad purchase?

Posting here asking "is this a good HDTV" is useless too, TRY BEFORE YOU BUY, and by TRY I mean TRY to do the things you plan on using that TV for.

Excellent advice. I not only brought my 360 in to try out, I also brought in my my xbox 1. I tested most of the Samsung HLR series DLPs with composite and component cables and as far as lag is concerned it made no difference. There was at least a .5 - 1s delay with either hookup. The picture was stunning but if you're going to be gaming on it you might want to try another brand.

OMG!!!!

It's not the DLP or Samsung, I just found out that there is a GAME mode the input. The lag is caused by a filter (somewhat like anti-ailasing on a computer)

But the lag can be eliminated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is what Samsung says about it

I guess all the ones I tried must have been manufactured before June 2005 blink.gif

I call BS on saying the lag can be eliminated, i had a samsung dlp with the exact same problems your having.  Thats just what the samsungs video upconverting process does.   It adds a one second lag on all video inputs.  I sent my tv back to samsung, they sent me a new one with the same problem and bitched till i got  a refund.  Then i did the same as ikecomp, i went to an audio/video store with my ps2 at the time and found a nice 52" sony lcd rear projection.   I did everything possible to try and keep my samsung, truthfully it had a better picture than my sony now.   But after the trouble i had with the dlp and checking a/v forums on the net and seeing the problems other people are having with them i decided i was better off without the hassle.
