Title: Hdtv Help For Xbox And 360
Post by: IllusiveX on February 24, 2006, 06:53:00 PM
Hey ive had terrible luck with HDTVs and its really driving me nuts. First I had the Insignia 30in widescreen hdtv. That worked for not even 2 months then just fryed....took it back to bestbuy they told me that id have it back in 10-20 days. After about 12 days i called them to see if there was any word on my tv and to find out that i would be allowed to pick out another because mine was not worht it to fix. So i went to bestbuy and picked out another tv the Samsung 30in slimfit hdtv. Took it home played with it a couple days then when ajusting the screen for my xbox media center i noticed that the screen was crooked went into the menu tryed to see if it could be fixed with the tilt opion but it didnt fix the issue. Then popped in marc echo to find that there was another issue about the sides of the picture starting to move. thought maybe it was the fact that i had crappy component cables so i bought nice ones and the problem was not fixed. I also noticed when i used component cables on my xbox that theres a rainbow effect on the right side and i noticed jsut wierd stuff in game.
Called a tech about it they came here looked at it for 5 mins then said "I think the problem is that it needs a new reflection bord, ill order the part today, it will be here in 10 days"
Ok now if this doesnt fix the problem im gonna return this tv and get a different set...If anyone else has experienced these problems and knows whats wrong please help me out here. Heres a Picture of what it its doing you cant see the rainbow effect but here http://i12.photobuck...y110/wtfman.jpg if alot of people are have these kind of problems with the tv any recommendation on a different tv
thank you IllusiveX

My Samsing has an overscan problem that I can't fix and I'm not sure if a repair-man can fix it either. When it comes to TVs it seems that Sony makes the best. Unfortunately Sony knows that, and they make you pay through the nose.

It's not really bad luck you've had as much as it is (or appears to be) bad research. The 2 TVs you picked are on the lower end of the quality scale. Insignia isn't what one would consider a quality brand. And I'd read so many bad reviews of people experiencing EXACTLY what you are now, that I did not buy the slimfit. As Legendary Badass noted, Sony does make quality TVs. I bought a JVC (which many users actually preferred to the Sonys) that isn't made anymore. I've also heard good reports about some Panasonic CRT HDTVs, if you are in fact looking for a CRT. Look around on the net for TV reviews. I bought my TV on Ebay for less than half the remanufactured price. Still, bummer you're having trouble. You'd think $800 would buy you a decent TV.

True, but if you keep your eyes peeled you can find a good (or great) deal. I got the 60" SXRD for $3,499 from CC when it was going for $4,999. Several day sale and apparently my CC had it mis-marked, everywhere else was $4,049. I'm in Northridge (affluent), CA, so it's not like I'm in a rural area and it wasn't selling. Also got the matching stand for $314 (sells for $599).
You're better off investing a few extra bucks on a better TV. You're spending money on something that is just giving you head ache after head ache. Why fork over the cash at all if you're going to be anything short of elated? Look for a deal, you'll love it that much more. Costco generally has nice TV's at excellent prices (have a plasma and LCD from there). The icing on the cake is their return policy. "Money in the bank".
Return the TV and make yourself happy.

whats up guys, there are some easy ways to fix overscan and bowing and other things with samsung hdtvs. 1 turn off the tv then hit the mute button then 1,8,2 then power this will bring you into the service menu. 2 write down all the factory settings befor you change anything or else theres no way to get them back unless you have the Service Manual for the tv.please write every setting down i will not be held responsible if you dont write them down and screw up your tv.lots of people fix the same problems by doing what i have just told you about samsung tvs are well known for these problems but with a few Adjustments everything should be fixed and your tv should look good.again please write down the factory settings befor you change anything you can also fix the red push samsung hdtvs are also known for.thanks and good luck post and keep me updated and let me know if this helps you

Hi
I don't know where you live but I had this same issue. I wanted HDTV for under $1000. I too purchased the Samsung SlimFit 30" TV and it has a gemotry problem... Any corners are messed up .. I retuned it. I bought Norcent Plasma TV, nice but Sound is terrible
I tried the Toshiba and Panasonic from Futureshop & Best Buy and they didn't look any different on 720p than my old SDTV... I think almost all Tube HDTVs have poor quality.
I finally just went an bought a front projector Optera, was on sale for $799 and then I pciked up a 100" screen at tigerdirect.ca for $130.. now i have a 100 inch screen and HDTV projector and its awesome. I was skeptical to purchase such a cheap projector but it is truly awesome... So some advise (i'm not saying go buy a projecotr) but I am saying if your looking at tube HDTV's then save your money. Otherwise try LCD but look for something with less than 10ms response time and those no name brands at futureshop/best buy might not cut it. Otherwise save your cash and get soemthing you will be proud of. Otherwise, you will be looking at the screen wondering why the hell you wasted $1000 on a TV that looks like SDTV

o yah, i shoulda realized that when u didnt mention a different tv
and i think that most movies are filmed at even a wider viewing area then a widescreen tv can offer, so there will still be bars on the movie... maybe they arent as large as a standard tv i dont know...
so there are bars on the sides of your 360 games? ive heard this i dunno if its just a matter of changing settings, or if some games just dont support widescreen format.... however i am lookoing for tvs too, some someone with som eknowledge about this subject share some information with us... do all games on the 360 stretch to fit a widescreen tv or no?

I have a widescreen tv and all my 360 games have been in widescreen. I would imagine your problem is with settings somewhere. What cables are you using to connect the 360 to the tv? There is probably someone on here with more knowledge about this though.
The movie thing: many movies are in an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 where as your widescreen tv has an aspect ratio of 1.78:1 (16x9). On these movies you will still see black bars (called pillar bars) on the top and the bottom of the screen (although they will be much smaller than on a 4x3 tv). There are plenty of movies filmed in 1.78:1, so if you find one it should fill up the screen entirely (just make sure you set your dvd player so it knows it is outputting to a widescreen tv).
Its not the 360 games its just like most of the regular xbox games and my ps2 but meh its not really an issues its still a damn nice tv and just a little bit of the sides isnt really a big deal cuz i still find current gen better in 4:3 and thank you for the movie help
