Title: Samsung Slimfit Hd Crt...
Post by: mathemat on January 11, 2006, 08:03:00 AM
i am thinking to buy this tv , it support native 1080i and not 720p,  what will happen if i play a game in 720p ? if it upscales it to 1080i the quality will be better worst or the same ? or it will upscale the 480p which it is supporting ?

I'm fairly certain that despite it's native resolution is 1080i it still displays 720p without scaling...

Much like a 17" CRT monitor's native resolution is 1024x768 yet it can still display resolutions higher and lower without scaling.

With that said, I have a friend with one and the 360 looks fantastic on that display.

I second what Twisted said as I own one.

Believe me, the TV does 720p beautifully...

Yup there ok. I have one. HD programming looks great on this tv. If you notice "any" abnormalities with your set do not hesitate to bring it back. This includes "bowing", rainbows, and gaussing (purple blobs). I have had problems with these sets and am currently on my 4th set.

That TV doesn't do 720p native.   Just like we've talked about in many other threads, there are no CRT sets out there that will do a 720p signal.   Even real high-end Sony sets won't do a 720p signal native.   They will ACCEPT it as an input signal, but the set is just going to convert it to 1080i to display it.

With instances like this, it just depends on which device has the better scaler.   I'm sure both the 360 and this TV have decent scalers.   So, if you leave the 360 in 720p, the TV will do the scaling to 1080i.   Or, you can have the 360 do the scaling from normal 720p processing to 1080i output and just have the set display.   The ATi Xilleon display encoder in the 360 is very good, so I would think it would be better.   But, just try it both ways, and see which you like better.
