Title: Is Xbox360 Bad For A Plasma Screen
Post by: OC-NightHawk on November 18, 2005, 09:23:00 PM
Burn in is very real for Plasmas. NEC plasmas will 'burn in' in less then 15 minutes. A trick to get rid of burn in is to display a solid white image and let that burn in. No more burnt in black bars, water marks or anything.

IMO though, and this comes from professional and personal experience, go with a LCD. LCD displays will last longer and don't burn in.

Stay away from plasma, plasma is crap. The only reason plasma was popular for a while was because they couldnt make LCD screens in that size back then. Bu now LCDs have gotten just as big, and LCD has no problems with burn in, and their brightness is significantly better than plasma.

Thanks for all the info guys. I find it odd that futureshop.ca is pushing the samsung 42 inch plasma for the X360.> They claim it has some anti burn in system. Here check it out let me know what you think .  Personlay i've seen almost every screen. I really think Plasma gives you a much better image but if its going to just get burnt in then i dont wana waste 3-4k for nothing.  Check this link let me know.  Right on the front page  u see a pic of Project Gotham racing 3 .

Also be aware that plasma leaks over time and the picture will degrade immediately after turning it on.  The plasma needs to be rechared every 3-5 years and after 1-2 years you will notice a significant drop in picture quality due to the leaking plasma.  Basically, only buy plasma if you can afford to drop 3 grand+ every few years on a new tv.

I got a DLP and all HD content looks beautiful! Extremely affordable too! I paid $1700 for a 46" Samsung. beerchug.gif

I have a Sony 50" XBR SXRD. It is the best TV I have every seen, but it will cost you a little motre than you may be willing to pay. It can do 1080p, no screen door effect, bright from all angles, and no more burn-in than a CRT.

i will recommend DLP, LCD proj

definitely get the most for your money..

i dont think the benefit of hanging it on a wall and few inches smaller justifies the extra $1-2k your going to pay for a plasma.. that still has the possiblity of all the burn ins, short lifespan things that we all know about.. yes they have been improved.. but you never know.

but hey.. it must be better because a 42" HDTV plasma is $4k, and a 52" DLP/LCD proj,LCOS could be had for $2k~

but i dont know anything since i dont have either, but just from what my eyes have witness when googling around at electronic stores with a mindset of how much would i be willing to shell out and whats the most i would get for my money..

good luck

you could not spend $10,000 and buy a tv better than the sony wega LCD projection tv.
its the tv i own.  good choice.  you will not be disappointed.
DLP is a newer tech but it is not a better tech IMO, too much hype surrounding it. (light bouncing around inside the case causing rainbows to appear onscreen, a freaking color wheel! give me a break) maybe in a couple generations it will be better.
plasma tvs burns worse than my wifes cooking. i dont care what bs they feed you about no burn it, it has to have the phosphor-coating, which will always be prone to burn-in.

Don't let these people who have never owned a plasma, or own an older-generation plasma, fool you.

haha...all the differing opionions.

well speaking from personal experience, i have the sony grand wega 60in (ill check model number when i get home) and i couldnt be happier with any other tv and i have researched and owned/viewed other types of hdtvs.  i am some what of a audio/videophile, so id like to think i know what im talking about.  it handles all my hd connections and displays them beautifully.
ask the guy who recommended dlp if the inputs on his dlp tv can accept all signals (480i,480p,720p,1080i).  all the samsung dlps (biggest pusher of dlp tech right now) i have seen only allow 480i,1080i on one input and 480p,720p on another input.  kinda sucks if your xbox dashboard is running in 480i and you pop in a game running at 480p and you have to getup and unplug and plug you cables into a different input to get signal.  (what were they thinking)
the sony wegas are quality and the inputs take whatever signal you throw at it, as it should.

anyone find any good 27inch LCD's that are in 500-650 range? Just curious. If you have your own suggestions for an 27inch LCD that's bout all I can afford. I don't care waht the brand is, just as long as it supports HDTV and 720p
