Sorry to burst the bubble here but it sounds like a no go for 720p or 1080i for DVD playback.

Multimedia
Xbox 360 is the perfect centerpiece for your hi-tech living room. Watch your DVD movies in glorious 480p from the get go. Use the wireless (or wired) Xbox 360 controller to navigate the onscreen menus, or use the Media Center Remote (sold separately) for point-and-click simplicity.

Here is the link:

Now, I wouldn't call 480p glorious when watching a DVD movie...Looks like I will need to keep the xbox after all...

P.S. Who creates an "HD Era" of gaming and releases a system that sports only 480p playback of movies?????

Off topic, but i wish they would develop two independent xbmc, one with dvd menu support and one without.  Because i like it without menu support; i love to play the movie right away, instead of waiting for all the warnings, and other crap that takes forever to finally view the movie.

Even if the 360 doesn't support upscaling by default, I'm sure it'll be modded to do so in a year.  I do think it's dumb for MS to hype the "HD era" and only supply 1 facet of HD... 720p games.  It almost seems like they ran out of "HD juice" or something.  Hopefully it will support WMVHD to the fullest extent.  Especially with that HDMI cable in the works.   biggrin.gif

Yeah...on the latest build I have from 10-30 you just highlight the file and press the white button on the xbox controller and it allows you to select whether you want to play it with Mplayer or DVDplayer.

The xboxmediacenter.xml only give the option to change the external dvd player, for example: xboxdash.xbe, avalaunch.xbe, etc.  I cannot find where it offers the option to change the internal players; default from dvdplayer to mplayer.

Odd, your right. It used to be you had to enable it via the XML and I had made the obviously incorrect assumption that its just enabled there by default, but now there doesn't appear to be a setting for it .. oh well. It would be "trivial" to add, don't know why its not already there..

While no new info is being produced, the picture still looks better.  The main improvement is no scanlines in 720p, as there are in 480p.  Makes the picture more colorful, and clean.

all you need to do is change some text in the xml config file. basically at the point where it says dvdplayer replace with mplayer. Can't remember where it is exactly off the top of my head though.
