Title: Vga Cable Resolutions
Post by: Shakey_Jake33 on August 27, 2005, 04:31:00 AM
Major apologies if this has already been covered.  I did look, but I'd miss something even if it was right in front of my face.

Anyway, I have an LG 26" HD-Ready LCD TV, and was planning to hook my the 360 using the VGA cable for optimum video quality.

However, I have been informed that the VGA cable will only output in 640x480, 1024x768 and 1920x1080.
Is this true?!  How the hell can it be called a HD VGA cable if it doesn't even support actual HD resolutions such as 1280x720?!  Please tell me I'm wrong.

Heeeeere we go.

The vga cable does FROM and TO those resolutions. It does everything in between.

I MADE A TOPIC ON THIS a loong time ago, yet you don't bother using the SEARCH tool to find out an answer before you ask it.  grr.gif

With a monitor or tv with VGA, you will be able to do 720p, ALRIGHT?!?

The only evidence comes from, i believe the spain convention, in where it shows a vga cable with three resolutions printed next to it: 640x480, 1024x768, and 1920x1080.

Well we can be sure that it does HDTV resolutions, such as 480p, 720p, and 1080i. I read this in one of the MS brochures.

I just noticed something in that pic above, the vga cable dont seem to show any evidence of the ability to use optical or coaxial cable for sound. That would seem weird since every game supports atleast dolby 5.1, Am I missing something? I've never used a vga cable for my gaming so i dont even know how it works, so if i said something stupid then forgive me.

There will be an optical jack on the console I assume, since none of the cables have one.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's optical.

yes it's an optical jack...

here is a better picture of an optical jack:

All optical Jacks have a cover... Some come with a small plug to cover the optics when there is no cable being used. Others (like in the 360 picture) have a spring loaded door that gets pushed in and away when you insert a cable.  beerchug.gif

If it's anything like the current gen Xbox all of the AV cables will have a port for optical with the exception of the Standard (composite) AV cable that comes with the core version.

i think samsung is dropping the ball big time .....so many people have questions and are probably all shopping for their hd-tv's this very minute you would think they want to start campaining by now....and stop people from buying crapy hd sets online.....i think if you find an hdtv online for 500$ it has to be junk...
