Title: About Enchanting
Post by: shodanjr_gr on April 09, 2006, 08:44:00 AM
I got a full set of glass armor plus a few soul gems with Grand Level souls in them (Flame / Storm Atronarchs).

What i wana do, is enchant my glass armor with a Shield Enchantment to reduce the amount of damage i recieve.

Is that even possible?

When i go to the Arcane Univercity and try to enchant something, my enchantment options are very very limited (for instance, the only Fortify Skill enchantment that i can put on my items is fortify Armorer....).

Am i missing something?

Listen.
I have a shield 20% enchantment on my glass cuirass that I got from a sigil stone.
Don't enchant your armor with anything other than weapon-stat buffs, stat buffs (even though I disagree with their usefulness), and health/magicka buffs. Magic school buffs are useless in most cases (destruction spells don't cost any less beyond level 100 destr.).

Your max armor rating is 85. Don't put more than one 20% enchantment on your armor because, at level 100 light armor, you get a 50% bonus anyways (making a 50 AR a 75 AR).

For me, the best enchantment is the sigil stone +50 magicka. Four of my pieces of Glass armor (boots, greaves, gauntlets, shield) are enchanted with this, giving me 200+ magicka points. Also, magicka regenerates faster depending on your amount of magicka. Willpower doesn't determine how fast your magic regenerates by value. No, it determines how fast it regenerates by how long it takes for your blue bar to fill up from empty to full.

To answer you question.  You usually need the corresponding spell.  In this case, a shield spell.

Hm... so if armor rating tops at 85, im not gona bother with a shield enchantment (im already at 65).

So Ill prolly go for extra magika cause im quite shoddy at it...

Can you give me a step by step on how you enchanted your armor with +50 magicka?  That would be AMAZING.  I have a bunch of those gems but I don't even know how to enchant anything.  I'm level 23 right now.

Enchanting is quite simple. You need access to the arcane university, a weapon or worn item to enchant, and a full soul gem. Go to an enchanting podium thing and activate it. Select the item you want to enchant. Select the soul gem you want to enchant with (the bigger the soul the better the enchantment.) Select the effect you want. Create the enchantment. You will see the cost of the enchantment at the top. Weapon enchantments require recharges. Worn item enchantments are constant.

The +50 magicka is via a Sigil Stone. I think you can only get +20 from a grand soul gem. What sigil stone you get is randomly decided when you pick it up, so you can save your game before hand and keep trying to make sure you get the stone you want.

The magicka sigil stone can also do absorb magicka 50pts. This is pretty wicked too, throw it on a daedric dagger, and you can recharge your magicka in a few slashes.

This game just blows my mind.  My game is at 40+ hours and I'm only about halfway through the main quest, maybe 1/4th way through the mages guild.

No kidding.  The wife got upset with me for playing so long.  I now have to "pace myself" but she just doesn't understand how big this game is.  It's sooooo easy to play for hours and hours (especially with all the loading screens...).

It has now been three days since I've played.  I may have to start up OA.

Any idea where I might find some sigil stones? I finally got all the glass armor and I'd really like all that extra magicka Carlo210 is talking about.

Go into any of the main oblivion gates.  Try the one by Kvatch.  Each of the main gates are controlled by a Sigil stone.  Here are some pointers.

There are only 13 Sigil stones in the game.
The effect of the Sigil stone is random so save right before you pick it up.  If you don't like what it gives you, reload.
They can be applied to weapons and armor anytime.
Your current level in the game has direct impact on what kind of effects the stone will give you.

Awesome! thx for the reply.. I think I'm at level 24 right now, Hopefully I'll be able to get some cool effects. I decided to go through all the mages guild quests first and then eventually make my way to the other guilds and the main quest.  Looks like I'll be playing this game for a looong time  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

sigil stones

Save before you pick one up in Oblivion. Reload until you get desired stone (+50 magicka ones are the best hands down).

There are much more than 30. For example, I have two +50 magicka stones in my skingrad house right now. They both have the same genre of effects to them, but the cast on strike enchantment is different. One of my stones is:
Damage magicka 50pts on strike
Fortify Magicka +50

and my other stone is:
Absorb Magicka 50pts on strike
Fortify Magicka +50

Not only that, but even speaking of just the contrant effect enchantments:
There are stones that fortify almost every attribute and a few skills. Also, there are many magical effect stones (ex: feather 125 points on self, nighteye on self, 25% chameleon on self, light 50ft on self, detect lift 110ft on self) and stones that fortify Health, Fatigue, and Magicka.

Level 24 and you don't know what sigil stones are?

I saw a listing of all the sigil stones. There are 30 of them, but they come in 5 different strength's based on your level, making a total of 180 different stones. Once you are level 20+ or something you will always get the strongest ones.

How did you complete the Mages Guild quests without ever even seeing an oblivion gate?  There are like 50 of them and they are right beside all the main quest stuff.

anyone have anything about the sigil stones?  ^^^^
Title: About Enchanting

? Just see what they are. It's not like there are that many. Just save before you pick one up and see which one you like the best.

There are some fortify weapon skills by 11, some fortify health by 30, fortify fatigue by 50, fortify magicka by 50, nighteye/detectlife/waterwalking/feather/shield/resist etc, and fortify attribute by 12 or whatnot. They all come with an on strike enchantment too, meaning fire/frost/shock/health damage, burden, absorb attribute, absorb skill, damage fatigue, etc.

It's not that mesmerizing.

There are 30 different varieties of Sigil Stones, each with a particular set
of enchantments (one if used on a weapon and one if used on a wearable item).

The variety you get will be random, your only choice will be whether to
enchant a weapon or wearable item.

Weapon (enemy effect) / Wearable Item (character effect)

1. Absorb Agility / Fortify Agility
2. Absorb Endurance / Resist Disease
3. Absorb Fatigue / Fortify Fatigue
4. Absorb Health / Fortify Health
5. Absorb Intelligence / Fortify Intelligence
6. Absorb Magicka / Fortify Magicka
7. Absorb Speed / Fortify Speed
8. Absorb Strength / Fortify Strength
9. Burden / Feather
10. Damage Fatigue / Fortify Fatigue
11. Damage Health / Fortify Health
12. Damage Magicka / Fortify Magicka
13. Demorilize / Fortify Willpower
14. Disintegrate Armor / Shield
15. Dispel / Spell Absorption
16. Disintegrate Weapon / Fortify Blade Skill
17. Disintegrate Weapon / Fortify Blunt Skill
18. Fire Damage / Fire Shield
19. Fire Damage / Resist Fire
20. Fire Damage / Light
21. Frost Damage / Frost Shield
22. Frost Damage / Resist Frost
23. Frost Damage / Water Walking
24. Shock Damage / Shock Shield
25. Shock Damage / Resist Shock
26. Shock Damage / Night Eye
27. Silence / Resist Magicka
28. Silence / Chameleon
29. Soul Trap / Resist Magicka
30. Turn Undead / Detect Life

The magnitude (strength) of the above enchantments will be based on your
character level when you found the Sigil Stone.

Descendant Sigil Stone -- Level 1-4
Subjacent Sigil Stone -- Level 5-8
Latent Sigil Stone -- Level 9-12
Ascendent Sigil Stone -- Level 13-16
Transcendent Sigil Stone -- Level 17 and up

As you level up, the stones get better.  My tip: Don't go into an oblivion plane until you are atleast a 17 or higher.  This way you will always get the biggest stone possible.  Save right before you pick it up, this way you can reload if you get a crappy one.

Are there sigil stones in every gate?  I went through an entire gate and didn't find one.  I did find a deadric warhammer though, so that was sweet.

No, just the 13 main quest gates.  The rest are like random caves.
