In PDZ on the 4th stage, the oriental snow stage, during the beginning in-game cut-scene the frame-rate is terribly choppy. Did anyone else experience this? Just curious if it is my 360, or just the game. Surprised if it is indeed the game chugging.
Also, please state whether your running in HD, or not.
-
Yeah sorta....the game engine hiccupped just a few times for me, no major slowdown though.
-
These are major frame rate issues, slows down to about 3 fps as the camera spans up the mountain, until it reaches the guard taking a pee, then it stops having problems all together.
-
yeah for me the game frequently slows down during cutscenes but never during gameplay...
gamespot mentioned it as well in there review of it. so i think its safe to say its not you just the game.... :/
-
for me the camera stutters a bit panning upward....about the same as the other cutscenes so far in the game, HD 1080i crt over here...
-
same, choppy video as panning up in HD, could really care less though havent experienced anything ingame
-
ive seen the cut scenes get choppy a few times
not this particular one but others...the first cut scene most notibly.
-
Yeah, mine get's extremely choppy, it's really bad for me, and I have also had slowdown in game, and multiple freezes with this game, overall the game is very good, but I am very disappointed with these problems, but the game was rushed, so it's not Rare's fault..
Ohh yeah, and I'm running on a 51' 1080i CRT RP over here too.
-
Are you guys plaing in hd...because when i first got the 360 i went to my cousins house and he doesnt have an hd we plaed fifa and pdo.
when i got home and plugged in the hd the soccer for ex.on his tv the crowed looked blurred and on my hd you can see the crowds way better before it was a blured but on hd you can make out the individual.720p native.
-
i honestly skip all the cut scenes in PDZ, the game is too fun to play, i can't stand to wait and watch. i'll check it out though when i get home and let you know. the only major problem i've really noticed with PDZ are the damn lines in pretty much every level, every part, etc etc. so annoying seeing those white lines on corners, only if they had more time to complete the game, i would cry at it's perfectness. gameplay makes up for any issues with graphics though, when 2 people are playing and they are doing different parts of the mission - WOW, feels so covert op style ;p
-
Yeah I am on a 1080i HDTV and I get the same thing, horizontal 'tearing' or whatever it's called...it's not too bad, but at times it is. the worst I know of is mission 05 I believe? the one where you escape from the guys hideout place or whatever... anyways, when you first get outside, if you rush out there as fast as you can, the game lags really really badly, like worse than I have ever seen on XBL...also in this level, the part where you have to demo the wall....I had some sound glitches there too...high pitch noises and weird fucked up sounds..instead of gunfire, melee, and walking sounds...it was really fucked up.

i am playing it on samsung DLP 720p and the game runs very smooth even during cutscenes.
Try loading up stage 4 then, if you have gotten that far, and see if the in-game intro (when the camera pans up the mountain to where the guard is peeing) is choppy. Because i didn't notice any framerate issues until this, and it was terrible.

Same as me and so far this game and all others look and run fine. No problems with PD0.

when i wrote that i was well past stage 4, all scenes play buttery smooth

I haven't hooked up to anyhting 1080i but I've noticed many of my games run worse (choppy / etc) at 480i than at 720p (at home I have VGA adapter, when I go to other places no one has HDTVs and I'm too lazy to disentangle my VGA adapter)
I'm more annoyed at FMVs in emulated games skipping
(i.e. DOA3 - but damn if the actual game isn't beautiful at 720P! altho, there's this annoying nonstop audio echo in DOA3, everything else seems to work ok.. odd eh?)

I'm not referring to all scenes, i'm just referring to stage 4's beginning cut scene.
If you don't mind, could you please try loading up stage 4 again, just for my sanity sake, and see if the beginning cut-scene still runs perfect for you in 720p?

I have a 55 inch Mitsubishi running at 1080i and I had the exact same choppiness on the cut scene of the level you are talking about. Everything else is normal except for I get some tearing.
It has to be normal
-
ive also experienced this choppy cut-scene and the tearing at that round entry way. ive played the level on 2 different displays, a crt running at 1080i and my 19" LCD running at 1280x1024 and it happends on both screens so it HAS to be the game.
-
Just loaded stage 4 again, had to really focus to see a few chops and the very beginning of the scene, but as soon as the bridge comes into view it is smooth.
-
game runs smooth for me
-
the games custscenes especially in stage 4 intro is very crazy. It is like they are having framerate issues. I have a friend here with me also and his 360 does the same thing. Add 2 more to the list. If i recall didnt halo 2 do this in intros also? I was almost ready to ship mine out and get a new one to see if this problem was hardware related... could just be rare's code.. kameo is excellent????
-
It runs fine for me on a 42" Samsung Plasma at 720p. Although I have noticed in all cutscenes that there is a stutter ever few seconds though. Not detrimental but its noticeable. Also, no motion-blur in the cutscenes make it look like its worse graphics than in game.
Man I love motion-blur.

Well, if one of you (anyone) wouldn't mind loading up level 5 (the escape from the place) and go to the part where you demo out the wall, when you get to that point, could you rush outside towards the hover craft, and see if the game lags?...I want to be sure if this is the game or my xbox, because I noticed major lagging at this part, I guess they don't expect you to rush out like that....
thanks in advance.

I just tried that several times and I didn't notice anything. Ran off in a few different directions and that didn't do anything either.
-
Hmmm, well I wonder if playing Co-op also makes a difference, because me and a friend played on co-op in that part, and both ran out and it lagged horribly...I guess I will have to wait until he gets his new xbox to find out...thanks anyways though.

I have the same problem. The cut scenes for every level are a bit choppy, nothing too bad. I reached the 4th level last night and that opening cut scene was brutal. I'm playing single player mode in 1080i HD. From reading the thread, people playing in 720P aren't having this problem. Maybe it's an issue with the 1080i upconversion, since PDZ's native resolution is 720P. Remember 720P is 60 frames per second, 1080i is 30 frames per second.
-
Also, I remember reading in another thread, where twisted symphony (I think) said that microdisplays (LCD, Plasma, DLP...etc) instead of just going to the next frame, apparently they 'fade' to the next frame, and make these problems alot less noticeable...I am guessing the developers didn't test this game on 51' Rear Projection CRT's

Nope, it runs like shit in 720p and every other res i've tried (the 4th mission beginning cut-scene).
Like you mentioned, every cut-scene is a bit choppy, but nothing terrribly noticable. The 4th stage, on the other hand, was/is inexcuseably horrid.
