Gears of War, Hidden Fronts Multiplayer Map Pack

From the press release:
Quote

On Thursday, May 3, at 9 a.m. GMT, Xbox LIVE gamers should ready their weapons and prepare for battle as "Gears of War", rated M for Mature, releases four new action-packed multiplayer maps in the thrilling "Hidden Fronts" Multiplayer Map Pack. For 800 Microsoft points, COG soldiers and the Locust Horde will clash once again for control of these four dynamic new areas, including Bullet Marsh, Garden, Process and Subway.

* Bullet Marsh: In this Kryll-infested swamp, an old generator still powers the area lights. A few stray bullets could easily knock out the generator, leaving combatants to fend for themselves against the Kryll.
* Garden: This overgrown and crumbling conservatory still has a working fertilization and pesticide system. This system can pose a serious hazard to anyone who ventures into the greenhouse without first venting the air.
* Process: Teams must fight for control of this subterranean Imulsion processing plant, still active despite the cessation of the Pendulum wars.
* Subway: Timgad's Central Subway station used to serve as a central hub for commuters. Now the tunnels are crawling with Locust.

The "Hidden Fronts" Multiplayer Map Pack will explode onto Xbox LIVE Marketplace on May 3 for 800 Microsoft Points as gamers steady their aim, pull the pin from their grenades and get ready to battle once more! All four of the new maps will be made available at no cost over Xbox LIVE on Sept. 3, 2007.

expensive... and I thought it was supposed to be 9 maps not 4. Maybe 12 as we originally thought...

Should be fun though if the subway can be accessible or to have it move...

I'd like to see some new guns with the pack considering it's 800msp

welll...here's another thing i won't be using, i pay 60 dollars for the game and i'm not willing to spend anymore of my hard earned money on a few maps, these people should try charging for a mild update on a pc game..so how many peopel would pay

I'd buy it if they are going to fix the HOST problems (HOSTS having an advantage). If not, I will just wait till it is free!

what sucks about this situation is epic wanted the maps to be free, microsoft is making them charge! im going to buy them, but only to support epic (and i will play the hell out of them heh). i wish msft didnt get any of the proceeds.

I just paid for the R6vegas maps and its a couple of new crappy maps and then some that are just redone (killhouse redux).

No mas for me.  The old maps are great.  Just wait until you have to buy multiplayer altogether later.

They'll give you one map (the hook) and give you the "choice" to upgrade later for a nice fee.

Thats essentially what they are doing now except you get more than one map with the game.  That will soon fall to 4 maps included, then 3, then 2.....

To tell you the truth im having more fun with the Wii anyways.

The 360 is as high maintenance as a woman who keeps asking you for your credit card.

800 ms points for 4 maps are they high 400ms points should be the going rate for maps I will wait till they are free, I don't play much multiplayer anyway.

So much for them swearing they would never charge for maps and addons. This is why microsoft is loosing costumers and support. They keep screwing everyone over, going off the people I know 360 is going down, very fast.

How much more contradictory can they get?
All in good fun. I can't justify paying that(what 10 dollars is the conversion?) for just a few maps though.  I'll wait til they are free, or not use them at all.

What's contradictory about that? If you want them between May 3rd and Sept 3rd, you pay 800 points. If you wait until September 3, you don't pay anything.

I will be more than happy to pay 2.50 per map, keep them coming...

AWESOME!!!
and if 2.50 is too much for a map that you might possibly play for HUNDREDS of hours, then dont buy it.

don't like the price, don't buy them.

but quit fucking complaining.

I posted this before, and I think it's relevant here.

It's not the cost that bothers me. I can totally justify $10 for 4 maps, given how much I tend to play (and enjoy) Gears.

My real problem here is that the developer (Epic) isn't free to exercise their own business practices as they see fit. Cliffy wanted the maps free. Epic wanted the games free. M$, the big money meanie, won't LET them release the maps for free which is, IMHO, telling the gamers, "F YOU!".

My understanding is Epic was given a choice--charge gamers for the maps, or you don't get to release them. M$ would rather deprive fans of the game than give it to them for free. Remember, the only reason the 2 maps released earlier were free is because the Discovery Channel payed for them.

Like I said, I couldn't care less about the price. It's the principle that gets me steamed (the older I get, the more things like that get to me).

And like I said in the other thread: CONGRATS AT SUCKING! Microsoft should keep gamers' thoughts into consideration before they let game developers release DLC. Maybe there should be polls, debates, and maybe even petitions about this stuff. Polls: Should they be free a month later or 4 months later?, Debates: Should Microsoft never release anything free or not release anything at all?, and Petitions: This petition states that what game developers develop, they should release them on their own terms and not let other companies release them for money. Whatever they create, THEY should release their DLC without other people stealing the show. Who agrees?

Microsoft, what you're doing right now is worse then having your computer crash back in 1998. It makes me wanna go back in the past and have your computer DIE for all I care. That crash demonized your minds of making bad decisions. Let God get into your lives so some good can come out for all of this. Good decisions meaning LISTEN TO US AND HEAR WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY BEFORE YOU GUYS START SCREWING EVERYBODY OVER!

EPIC also had another choice: do not use Microsoft's new gaming console for that game. They could (and should) have expected this. For games for the PC, you can choose your own way to distribute updates for your games. With the Xbox 360, you depend on a 3rd party: Microsoft. And they tell what the Xbox 360 can and can't use.

Welcome to the world of DRM, 360 fan.

If the maps come with a fix to their bullshit party system, then maybe I'll buy them, until then, I'm looking forward to the Halo 3 Beta and some Halo 2 action.  I think GOW had so much potential, but they dropped the ball on multiplayer.

I think Epic should have given the maps to OXM to distribute on the disc. It would cost the gamers a little less because they'd essentially be buying a magazine and getting the maps for free and MS wouldn't have received any money, seeing as MS's excuse was that they were paying for the distribution medium.

you should send that to epic, that would be awsome. I wonder if microsoft still has to give them some kind of key to make the installations work though. do they have everybody nuts in a vice?

First off, I would blame EPIC for some of this too. I know MS can tell them they have to charge, but EPIC sat the price (this process was revlealed by the guys who made GeoWars, they said MS said they had to charge, and they chose the lowest price point).

As for complaining about it, I see it as $10 for 6 maps (4 paid for, and 2 they gave for free) and a new game mode. I think EPIC has been amazing at giving us free stuff (the new game mode wasnt even sponsored, which means they had to have paid MS for it themselves) and I have no problem at all giving them some cash back for releasing more stuff for their game, which I already have gotten my $60 worth from.

What you "fork[ed] out $60 for" didn't include these maps, and there is nothing that says you "gotta buy extra stuff for it". You can play your $60 game without these maps without any problems.

Just because you bought a Civic without a CD player and a CD player appeared later for some extra cash doesn't mean they owe you one, nor does it mean you have to buy one to keep using your car.

I don't understand this mentality that magically people owe you something.

You gave them money and they gave you a product; end of transaction... just because they make new versions of that product or attachments to it, or new products altogether doesn't mean anything.
YOU GOT WHAT YOU PAID FOR THEY DON'T OWE YOU SHIT

It does almost seem like more thought was put into their design. They're more like the maps that shipped with the game, less like raven down/old bones, IMO. Free would have been nice, but I don't mind paying because I know I'll get a lot of enjoyment out of them.

Man, it's weird not knowing where I'm going though. I know all of the other maps cold, but I'm totally lost on these new ones (just bought yesterday).

Ok, so how much would you charge me to design 4 new maps for gears of war (you and your team) ?

They will have to be play-tested too mind.

I'm looking for talented designers and programmers for my new software company called CHEAP AZZ GAMES DOT COM !

Must be willing to work for peanuts........
