I hear a lot of talk about this but don't understand it, I am new to playing games online.

when you're the host all of the other players connect to you... so the host is the only person in the game who doesn't have any lag (ever) because you don't have to connect to anyone.

GoW is a complex game, meaning that even on the fastest connections there is still a little bit of lag for all of the non-host players...

hence the host has a speed advantage because they don't lag.

In real world terms it means that if the host and another player fire a shot at each other at the exact same time, the host will always win.

Thats true and its suppose to make it harder for the host to see whats happening during a shotty battle. Only problem is its a waste of time since all the host needs to do to get around the problem is turn off extreme content in the options menu. No more blood = no more disadvantage.

Yea it does do that for everyone like sabbath_dude said above me. Host advantage often ticks people off because they arent good enough to beat them. Thats why I try to host as often as I can smile.gif

After about 20 games of gears of war i noticed the host advantage on gow2

Easy to see.

Look at your kills at the end of the game if you did amazingly well YOU WERE HOST. usualy host has +5 more kill than any other player.....

Host on gow was better it was much harder to aim shotty...

Too many ways to tell if you're host.
The easiest way is wait until the round is over, if you can melee you're not host.
You can't melee after a round is over if you're host.

Also, if during the map choice screen you ever see a 6 (meaning that six people have chosen that particular map) you ARE host.

If during the map choice/weapons choice screens, you hear it tick :00 twice, you ARE host.

Those are the ways I can tell if I'm host pretty easily, then you get into the more arcane methods.

Grenades fly differently when you're host.
Shooting the shotty blind shoots differently.

If you want to know more, go here or here or google it.
