Rumors surfaced last week already that the UK Official Xbox360 Magazine would contain a 'Final Fantasy XI Online Beta' disc (Japanese get it free with their Xbox 360 console). This news is now confirmed and it's not only for UK. From teamxbox.com:
Square Enix Ltd. and Future, the international special-interest media company are delighted to announce a deal that sees the next issue of Xbox 360: The Official Xbox Magazine exclusively covermounting the FINAL FANTASY XI Beta version for Xbox 360.
As the biggest covermount in the five-year history of Xbox magazines, the beta disc will only be available with Future's Xbox 360: The Official Xbox Magazine in the USA, UK, France, Italy and Germany, joining the title's existing monthly coverdisc.
The exclusive disc is completely free for the duration of the beta test and will give fans of the Final Fantasy series and readers of Xbox 360: The Official Xbox Magazine an exciting opportunity to be the first to sample the next-generation version of Final Fantasy XI.

I DO... punk
This is great news, though I'm a little confused what exactly is "Future's Xbox 360" Does this mean it will be available in the US and the UK or just certain parts of the UK or what?

Hardly next gen it's a 2/3 year old game that's been ported to the 360.

That means that all OXMs published by 'Future Publishing' (http://www.futurenet.com) will have the demo disc.
'Future Publishing' won the rights for the OX360M in USA, UK, France, Italy and Germany.

The Team Xbox article said "the next issue" so I would imagine January, possibly Feburary?

I have the January issue, probably February or March..."You'll be among the very first to get your hands on a special full beta version of FFXI in an upcoming issue of OXM." from an article about FFXI

I wonder if this is going to be in the issues on the shelves or just for the subscribers. If they are on the shelves we'd better get a stack for ebay.

why would you even suggest that?? with all the hatred of the high prices for 360s on ebay... I can see hard core FF gamers paying ridiculous amounts to get it... that'd be wrong...

I hope you don't need a hard drive.

To me Final Fantasy died when it showed up on playstation as FF VII. it was no longer the same, from cool looking dudes that fit in squares to 3 dimensonial garbage YUCK!!!. the online version sounds like fun but Im not about to try it. I hope this square deal is good and they do the final fantasy collections for xbox 1 as well as xbox 360.
-
Also people when the actual game comes out you will have to pay to play it. And not just pay for xbox live. In fact, you don't have to have xbox live gold. You just need to pay a monthly FFXI play online fee.

You will need a hard drive. I read that somewhere as well..
wtf!!! PS2 version didn't need it. and X360 HDD is "Optional" so i don't think you will need it. If it does... then

Yeah the Gay station is pretty Gay. having worked at a video game store for like a week, I was more than convinced that the video game thing is completly homosexual. Especialy the Role Playing people. It was disturbing to see how many boys/men buy video games. Im glad that I download games and play them for 15 minutes and delete them because they suck so bad. Give me a final fantasy cartridge or some retro game and im good. give me something from the 32bit plus disc game generation and ill let you know it totaly sucks. altho the DreamCast was alot of fun (analog triggers for jet controls ruled). oh and the modded xbox because of XBMC, and the homebrew Emulators, yeah thats worth keeping around. but these new 3d games they all look and play the same, theres nothing innovative, or original. Mario 64 now that was innovative and original.
-
Well, Im stoked.
Im also hearing alot about the beta characters being switched over when the game hits retail
