I second that the graphics look damn good. Is everyone asleep or something? There is no action on this board tonight. People really need to check this out.

MAN THIS GAME IS AMAZING! I just can't believe this game is playable. It looks and behaves way too realistic. If you haven't got the demo then do your self a favor and head over to the market place. I think this is the definitive "Next-Gen" game!

I still can't believe what my eyes are telling me. Each time i see this game am like wow what a nice looking cgi movie. Then i pickup my controller and rearrange B. Hopkins FACE! This is amazing... EA You just got $60 from me!

I never liked the whole analog/punch thing back then but in RND 3 they have refined it. Took me 1 min to get use to it! This game is as smooth as butta, mixed with Sugar Ray Leonard, and packs a punch that Mike Tyson would be proud of.

I'm so pissed.  I'm 800 or so miles away from my 360, so I can't download this.  This is the highlight of 360 for me, so I hope EA does it right.  Looks like they have the graphics right.  They've made steps forward in the previous boxing games, so I hope it is as least as good as those.  I'm hoping for an awesome career mode and a knock your socks off online mode with persistent records, belts, and the whole nine yards.  Wouldn't it be cool if they set it up like real life?  A few champs for each weight class.  Work your way up the ladder type deal.  Online.  Oh man... I can't wait!  I've heard Feb. 16.  Anybody hearing anything different?

I have really gained an appreciation for tis marketplace thing.

I am currently downloading fight night rd 3 as I type.

I am hoping it is better than part 2 because they really butchered it... turning it into an arcade haymaker slugfest which took no thought... no wonder why the mainstream liked it.

This demo will gimme a pretty good understanding if I am going to invest in this game or not.

there is no multiplayer in the demo but I would bet it to be in the final copy.

Also check out the people around the ring. You can get a good look at them when you knock someone down. Im not sure but it looks to me like what they did with NFS:MS by taking real actors and then making them more video gamish. I forget what its called but does anyone else agree with me?

on the replay those guys faces looks like a 64x64 texture.....one big blur i dunno what your talking about? mabey i got a bad LOD fuck up in replay

I think it looks pretty good. Once thing it looks kind of jerky tho. Not sure why, but for some reason it kinda looked jerky when hitting or getting attacked.

Awesome little demo though.

even on regular it looks amazing. Also if the gameplay seems slow you probably haven't ever played this game before because if you suck it does play really slow. Either way it isn't suppose to be a super fast arcade boxer. It's suppose to be a more realistic boxer. If you expect something like that then don't even bother commenting. You must be out of your mind as well if you think these graphics are just ok. Even in standard def they look a ton better then anything else out there. I'm sorry usually Im very tolerant but that is just crazy talk. Tell us what exactly your playing it on, maybe thats your problem. That or you need your eyes checked.

its amazing but it needs alot of work between now and when it comes out, seriously i was getting camera issues LOD issues and the odd way people fall when they are knocked out close to ropes
Title: Fight Night Round 3
Post by: jaygould30 on January 04, 2006, 08:39:00 PM
what kind of camera issues did you have? Im curious because I think I saw something go wrong with the camera in the first match I played like it clipped right through the boxer or something.

Also I'm not flamming I just can not believe anyone can say these graphics aren't the best you've seen. Im sorry but I refuse to believe that anyone can honestly say that. And of course there will be things that need work but from what Ive seen so far I don't see that much and all of them are minor.

I'm downloading this now.  Too bad Xbox Live is so slow to download.  It would take me like 3 minutes to download this size on my computer, but I have to wait 20 minutes for this.  I think it's awesome that the finally added a demo of a game that is not out yet.  I was kind of worried that maybe they would on put out demos of released games, but that is obviously not the case.

This looks like Sony's PS# "demo" that they showed off so long ago.  Only, this is LIVE.  I'm controlling him.  VERY impressed.

My only gripes are the same people in the background are there more than once and it can be a little jerky on replay (plus the foot twitches), but Jesus, it's amazing.  Simply STUNNING.  Next gen.

I guarrantee multiplayer in the final copy!

For a demo, it is a very nice boxing game. Worth considering getting in the future. My only grip is the degree of punches (how hard they hit) and the brief lag when trying to block. But if they speed up the game just a tad it would be perfect.

Game looks great, more next gen than any other X360 game I've played or seen videos of. That said, the game has long load times (from the harddrive no less) and is lacking even for demo standards. Hits feel, look, and sound soft, some controls are not enabled yet though they were listed as working on the flyby control page. A complete annoyance is that before the fight, they flash the controls for the game for a few seconds...requiring the mind of an idiot savant to remember in more than 2 takes.

everyones making a bg deal like this is final.

its a friggin demo where the full game wont be finished until later 2006.  sheesh.

this has got to be the most amazing ever.  its like playing a real cg movie.  The punches were a bit slow and the repays were kinda shot, but hey.  If they can stick with this through the rest of development without and details being left out, then im all for it.  Im not a boxing fan, but imma definately play around with this for a while.

looks astonishing on my hdtv.

people should note that this is NOT an example of how all characters will look in the future. In this game there are 2 characters on screen and NOT a lot else... ever.... so they can and will dedicate much of the GPU/CPU to those 2 characters....

not downplaying anything you said but isnt that just commen sense?  of course with smaller areas and very few people they can manage the resources of the GPU/CPU into a very beautiful scene but that doesnt mean that the game still isnt a gorgeous game in general.  thats the same reason to why many fighting games are the best examples of what a system can do graphically (visually speaking) that is also why you cant compare a fighting game to a vast open area game because the resources of a game like morrowind is spread throughout the huge area as apposed to just a small arena.  also regardless of any factors like resource management, i think its safe to assume that no matter how good this game looks, the 360 is capable of better then this and we will see games far more graphically impressive then this (technically speaking not just visually).  just saying because those people who need to be dragged back down to earth not knowing what you stated should stop playing games now.

still the game looks impressive (especially for an EA title).

My only disappointment with the game? 30 fps.

Two questions:

1. I'm not familiar with the Fight Night games, can you give an example of how to chain a combo?

2. How can you tell the game runs at 30 fps?

Just my opinion but if anyone thinks the punches are to weak maybe your only punching into blocks. If you don't have a clear shot on the guy then it will be a weak looking punch. If you hit skin then you will hit hard. Also the more combos you hit the harder your punches will get. On top of that if your just punching all the time and not landing or always trying to block or bob & weave when you don't have to then your going to become tired and your punches will be a lot weaker (the announcer even tells you this).  There are gameplay elements in this demo that are not explained because its simple a demo but there is defenitly a fatigue mechanism to this and it WILL make your punches weak. If you want to hit hard you got to be pretty decent. I would say the hardest hits are off of counter moves. Just block your opponents punch and it throws him off balance and slows him down leaving you time to wind up and really lay into him. I usually hit him with a hook off the counter and then a power punch. I'm just offering this to anyone who thinks the punches are weak because I personally think when I actually use skill to fight the punches are real strong and it looks like I'm almost going to knock someone out of the ring. Also Jones is alot better at counters and has a much faster power punch but Hopkins hits a lot harder. Just my 2 cents.

I noticed this as well... Jones is lightning fast during the first round... but the more you whip out punches in combos and keep mashin the buttons, the slower he responds.  Great addition to the game with a fatigue mechanism... in earlier games, it wasn't nearly this good.

I just got done playing the demo....and was not that overly impressed with the graphics.

The graphics look good, but need higher res textures.  It doesn't have the pop, like other 360 game's graphics do.

The grain effect in the game makes it look like the fighters are cut and paste looking like the original Mortal Kombat characters.

Character animation is great, but does not look to be 60 fps.

EDIT: I'm playing in 720p

ive been playing it all nite, and i think its looks great. i say great and not exemplary because there are only 2, count them, 2 people on the screen ( i know there is a small crowd, but they dont count =) ) now think how much power this console has and put it into 2 charctures. it could be better. BUT in 720 it still looks great. to many flaws draw me out though, the vibrating body on the floor mat, the suspended bodies, terrible replay camera that zooms in and out of polygons and stares at the mat or focuses on the wrong side of the action.  still i loved fight nite 2 and im gona play the hell out of 3, i just hope some of these things are fixed.

and yes i know this is a demo so i dont need any shit explained to me.... i know what im dealing with.  i would feel a little better if this beta material.  the epileptic mat seizures are unacceptable.

its actually scheduled far earlier then dev. 06......
http://www.MS.com/pr...-04CES06PR.mspx

maybe thats the release date for the ps3 version as it was stated a while ago that the 360 version would be released before the ps3 version having everything the ps3 will have with the addition of online play.

I can see where he got confused because the demo does say "coming in winter '06"  which does technically start close to the end of december but we as of right now are in winter '06 also so I see the misinterpretation.

the reason they focus so much on 2 PEOPLE is because its friggin BOXING!  how many boxing matches have you seen with 4 or more?  No this isnt wrestling.

of course theyre gonna dedicate all cpu/gpu power to two people.  common sense, like dude said.

I'm not saying the graphics are bad, they are good, maybe I am a graphics whore, I want more for my money

In another note, what is this crap M$ gonna sell a HD DVD for 360 external add-on? so I got to have an external srive, thats not going to look pretty in the entertainment unit

no one said that you HAVE to have anything.  buy it if you want it if not it wont make a difference with the 360 gaming wise

Does anyone know how much of the 360s power this game is using?
Just wondering when we'll get the first game to use all 3 cores

someone correct me if im wrong but there is never a really accurate way to judge how much a game is pushing the system.  just like some launch titles, devs can claim that their game in development will harness the true/full power of the system but with every new generation of development tools and more time with the hardware developers always find new and improved ways to pushing the system, sometimes making the system do things it wasnt built to do.  as for my guess, the game isnt pushing the hardware THAT hard really, a lot of effects arent really being used in the game, with only two main characters on the screen its easy to direct a lot of resources to just the characters, the backgrounds (while looking good) are pretty static with little to no movement and the only interaction there is is with the ropes, and the bulk of the impressive visuals comes mainly from the textures (IMO) which is not hard to keep at a high detail level considering how small the play area is.

we already are playing games that use all 3 cores.  hell with a simple game like geometry wars using all 3 cores i highly doubt that there is any game that doesnt use 3 cores.  the big question is when are we going to see more games that are specifically designed and developed to take advantage of multi-core/thread technology, games like condemned and PGR3 already are built for multi-core use but there is A LOT of room for improvement from an optimization and performance stand-point.

I told my friend that i wasnt going to buy it because it was a boxing game and i didnt really care for it much, but then we started playing it together and had a blast so i may reconsider, of course rent it first and then decide.  I heard people saying you couldnt play with 2 people but im not sure why, of course you can.

After playing the demo last night, I just have to say it, the game looks amazing, but it just feels a little too slow for my taste.  B. Hopkins can throw a much quicker jab than that, and the controls feel really sloppy to me.  Hopefully the final version will be a little bit faster, and they tighten up the controls.

Then again, everyone else is lovingt it, maybe I'm a little too critical.

Asside from my dislike for boxing games, I downloaded this demo to find a well crafted game.  I was shocked.  I think this will be a heavy hitter (pun intended) for EA in the near future.  My only gripe was that the fighters still look plastic.  Don't get me wrong, I love the sweat rolling down, the blood trickles, the swelling, the facial expressions... it all look fantastic.  But I can't wait for the day when devs get a good skin texture right without abusing shaders.  I also agree that the punches didn't feel very "painful" with the exception of a fantastic right hook I got in.  Anyway, that's my take.  Looks great and it is certainly a vision of what's to come from non-EA devs.

I too couldnt care less for boxing games and even less for EA sports games but this one blew me away. Excellent graphics, steady framerate and whats more actually fun to play. Right amount of tacticality and technicality and the ragdolls when the guys go down are both hilarious and rewarding.

The last time I enjoyed a boxing game this much was with EA 4D boxing on my 486. This is like a homage to that game and has the same amount of next-gen as did that game in the days of 2D fighters.

I downloaded this to and also think it looks pretty good. I dont like how slow they are either though. Could be a little faster in my opinion. When you get knocked out and they do the slow motion where the blood flys out, it looks cool but kind of crappy looking when the blood flys out. I'll definitly rent this one but I wouldnt purchase it.

I'm no fan of boxing games either, but this game simply looks fantastic. I didn't mind getting beaten up, just so I could see the slow-mo's of the blood spraying out of my swollen face!

The textures on the back of the shaven head is almost (IMO) photo realistic.

This is obviously an early demo build as there are some graphic glitches and collision detection issues, but this is shaping up to be an amazing game to showcase the 360.

I had fun playing this demo. Response is a little slow (unrealistically slow) and it needs tweaks in the gameplay and framerate area.

It has the potential to be a great game - I wasn't expecting much, but I was very suprised.

Hey, I can admit when I am wrong and I AM 110% wrong

I decided today, to try the demo again. And WOW it is great, not sure why I didn't think so before, maybe it was late and I was tired. But I am wrong. The only thing I wonder here is the gameplay appears a bit slow, compared to FN Round 2, but then again this is a sparing demo not an actually fight

the fight night series has been by far my favorite game....and this one is amazing compared to the others, the only thing i didnt like was that they punch to slow and sometimes the expression on the other guys face when you hit him is like "you gotta be kidding me" like in the replay you can notice it bad, even with a huge blow he just sits there.

First and foremost, I hate boxing.  I hate boxing games even more.  I downloaded this demo simply because I cannot stand to be left out of anything concerning the 360.  I fired this demo up and holyshitfishballsoup! As a 3D designer I have to say that the texturing and lighting in this game is the absolute best we've seen yet.  The facial distortions during the slomo replays combined with the particle effects of sweat and blood are nuts.  The hard lighting from above the ring really accents the amount of work that went into creating realistic animated muscles and textures.  The gameplay only seems slow until you get the hang of the game.  You have to place your punches fluidly and sparingly.

Since I'm not a boxing fan I don't care about specific characters or fighting my way to the top.  All I want is the sweet sweet experience of knockin some next gen ass around the ring, and I already have it.  Thanks for the free game EA, now I don't have to give you my $$!

I have never played this game before (I just don't like this type of games), but after this demo, I might buy the game. However, If I take OVERALL GFX of this game and Condemned, I would say Condemned has better GFX (hey, just my oppinion). But If I were only focusing on characters details, I would say this game is BEST looking so far.
In addition, after watching the PS3 Demo of the game at E3, I would say I am very disappointed. Don't get me wrong, PS3 will NOT do any better GFX than what 360 has to offer for this game (take the Demo as an example), but the whole point is what so much hype and "movies" have been seen, and at the end it turns disappointing. All I am trying to say is that this game is NO WAY NEAR "Film-like GFX" or the PS3 demo (movie shit).
To finalize, If I were to look from "in-game" GFX that I have seen on every console and PC, I would say I am very pleased to see how much improvement they have made over these years. Good JOB!!
Once again, don't get me wrong, but I am only disappointed with all of the hype going on.

Anyways, I thought the gameplay was a little slow at first to but once you get the hang of it its not so bad. You just have to ge used to pace of the game. When I play with Roy Jones, I hardly notice the speed difference because he naturally punches fast but overall I'm very impressed with the demo. A little tweaking needed and the game would be near perfect.

Yeah my brother thought the same thing because every time we played I was hopkins so we switched.  He beat me with Hopkins the first time we played but thats cuz I wasn't used to Jones' speed.  He claimed, " See it's easy to win when your Hopkins".  I rematched cuz I couldn't believe it.  He confidently agrees of course.  Well the next three matches went to me as Jones and he said I was cheating somehow and stopped playing with me.   laugh.gif
