To reinforce what I said the other day....

Early this week, we spent even more time with the game on both the Xbox 360 and the PC, digging into new missions and playing sustained sessions with the Xbox 360 version. And with that additional gameplay, we've come to a firm conclusion. There is little room for argument here: both the PC and the Xbox 360 versions look, sound, and play spectacularly in nearly every regard.

The Xbox 360 version shares several similarities with the PC version. Both are filled with well-animated soldiers, ornamented with highly detailed environments, and they all moved at crisp framerates. The 360 game held at a constant 60 fps, and the PC, at least right now, runs at 30 FPS. The Xbox 360 appeared to show a slight advantage over the PC with a little more detail and slightly longer draw-distances, but the differences weren't drastic or that easy to see. Like we did, you'd have to stare at them side-by-side and critically compare.

Having been able to see both the PC version and the Xbox 360 version running side by side I can easily that it appears as though the Xbox 360 version comes out on top with a hefty framerate of 60fps while the PC version is currently running at the standard 30fps. The Xbox 360 version also appeared to have a bit more textural detail, which was more noticeable within the interiors of some of the buildings, which play a major role throughout the game. In every mission we played, there are a lot of situations that will require players to maneuver through buildings to clear them of enemies while also scouting for tactical vantage points and so on. The heightened level of detail also gave the Xbox 360 a nice boost as far as authenticity and realism goes, helping to further the sense of immersion while playing the game. It also seemed as though the Xbox 360 did a little bit better job of showing off some of the game’s special effects, particularly those concerning the use of smoke which also plays a key role in the gameplay. While playing through a mission called “Repairing the Wire” which took place in the cold Russian city of Stalingrad, I even overheard one of the members of the media covering the PC version mention they had never seen anything like the smoke effects being shown on the Xbox 360.

The Outlook

If you are even remotely a fan of first-person shooters, or a World War II history buff you owe it to yourself to make sure you pick up a copy of Call of Duty 2 when it arrives on both the PC and the Xbox 360. I may be partial to the Xbox 360 version as I truly felt it delivered a more solid performance, but whatever platform you prefer, this is a game you will absolutely not want to miss out on. Call of Duty 2 reinvents combat shooters and sets a fierce tone for what is to become a new standard in the genre. Some have suggested that the Xbox 360 lacks a system-seller at launch, but we suggest that those critics turn their sights towards Activision’s Call of Duty 2 as see just how impressive this game truly is.

That is looking better than the pics I posted last week from my 6600GT.

The best part is - from the trailer we know the game is fun.  This is for sure a 9.0+ launch title.

My 'want' list is way too big:
Oblivion
Kameo
COD2
GR3
PGR3
NBA2K6/Live (which ever has better gameplay)
PD0
