Well, I did play these games way before, but now that the 360 is out and I am used to the next-genre graphics, I can't play the sprite typed games anymore. I think Kernal69er is like me too in this kind of case.

There isn't nothing wrong with 2D if it's beautifully made or follows a solid visual design. You guys prefer modern 3D animated movies to older 2D ones? If it works for what you're trying to achieve, it works. People still play Streetfighter in arcades, I have friends who prefer them. In the case of SF on XBL, it's showing its design age more than any limit of 2D.

Yeah it could be the low frame rate of the video capture but it did seem a little faster.
Definately faster than the old school Street Fighter Champion Edition ever was.
Hey Def, I bet one look at my Sega Saturn sprite based Hentai game collection will change your perception of retro gaming laugh.gif

What about Marble Blast?!?  Or maybe Roboblitz?  Something's gotta pique your interest.  Hell, I play more XBLA games then retail games.  Not looking forward to SF2 anymore though.  The digital pad just kills it for me.  Maybe I'll get an arcade stick when they become wireless...

never liked any of that stuff, never will. you have the ability to check my gamercard and see what Ive played, you'll never see any of those in my list. I deleted hexic the day I got my 360, never tried it, it was a waste of hdd space imo.

When they were picking their characters at the very beginning those stars at the bottom of the character select screen increase the speed of the game. From the video, it looked like they had their turbo settings on 4 or 5

And I don't know about you guys but I'm gonna play this game until my thumbs are soar

I used to play street fighter all the time on PS1. That was along time ago though I do not think I could touch that again tongue.gif The only arcade games that I would play would have to be games like geometry wars.

I'll tell you what, when that game comes out I'll be doing my first 360 mod.

I love 2D games, honestly they don't make enough of them anymore. Guilty Gear is Beautiful and if they ever brought UMK3 to the XBLA you'd have to pry the controller out of my cold dead hands to get me away from it.

i agree...3d is way over used...and it killed mortal kombat
while 3d could still be used in a 2d style like the new super mario brothers i dont see 2d side scrolling game making a come back on consoles...
for gods sake they have just killed metal slug by going 3d...its sad.

nope, those stars are how much or how little damage your char's attacks do... in sf2 turbo for the snes (and id assume genesis) youd put in a code at the capcom screen and youd be able to add or subtract stars from the main menu (arcade, vs, options) which would increase or decrease the speed... sf2 is just crazy slow and id wager that this game is at least the speed of turbo...

Hello smile.gif. I'm with you on that one TS. I love 2d Fighters. I play Marvel vs Capcom series. All of the SF series.  Mostly all of the NeoGeo fighters (KOF94-Neowave, World Heroes series, Fatalfury series, AOF). Mortal Kombat (1, 2 & 3). The 2.5D Fighters (2D fighters with 3D grafx) are Killer Instinct 1 & 2. Almost forgot Guilty Gear (the 1st 2).

Most of the ones i've mention I play Mostly on my Xbox (Thank you Emulators) with a Sega saturn arcade stick (Using the MagicBox converter of Course). They need to make one of these things for the X360.

I want to finish my Xbox 1 case swap before I dig into the controller mod, I also need to kick this aweful Oblivion addiction before I can get ANY work done  laugh.gif

Anyway I already have all the parts I need I just need to design the circuit and then BUILD it.

Basically I'm using the innards of a busted Wireless controller a Saturn cable extender for the port and some (what I assume to be) fairly basic circuitry.

It works on the same premise as that NES controller conversion that popped up but the Saturn controller protocol is simple enough that I can convert it's natural cable output to a button map. Infact the protocol is SO simple that building your own Saturn Joystick from scratch is even easier then what I'm attempting  smile.gif
Here's a good rundown if you're interested in getting a head start on me: http://www.gamesx.co...data/saturn.htm

I just now got a chance to watch the video

you notice the break down of Achievements at the end

12 World Warriors - I assume beat the game with each character
Perfection - I assmue complete a match with a perfect victory
Bonus Bonanza - ? something to do with the bonus rounds where you smash a car or something
World Chamption - I assume complete single player arcade mode
7 Stars - ? no idea
Hyper World Champion - Complete single player arcade mode without losing a match
Perfect World Champion
I Got Next - ? no idea
10 Online Matches - self explanitory
50 Online Matches - self explanitory
10 Online victories - self explanitory
???? - he only showed 11 of the 12, but he said there was one for making it into the top 100 on the leaderboards so I assume this is it.

The 7 stars is the diffuculty if I recall SF used stars instead of just Normal/Hard/Very Hard.

Post by: MadPerry on April 30, 2006, 08:12:00 PM
right, 7 stars refers to the difficulty.  i hope that means you only need to finish the game one time on 7 stars to get that achievment.  i'd lose all my hair using every charachter.

i'm a little baffled by some of the posts on this thread.  street fighter anniversary has been available for some time on xbox.  am i the only person pissed off that it was never added to the backwards compatibility list?  i own street fighter II versions on the genesis, snes, gba, 3DO, and xbox.  i shouldn't have to buy it again on 360 when street fighter anniversary should be backwards compatible...but i will anyways. biggrin.gif   i think it will likely be 1600 points.

Perfect World Champion - win game without losing a round/being hit

I Got Next - compete in 'quarter mode' an arcade style setup they have on live where you can be a spectator and claim next like people that used to put thier quarters on the machine...

I am pissed as well, but I am such a big Street Fighter fan that I can look past it. I own more copies of Street Fighter then I care to count. I hope for BC on Anniversary Collection so I can get back on Third Strike...I hope that Hyper is only about 4-800pts and most of all I hope that there is still hope for Street Fighter 4.

BTW AC was an original SF2 not at all like Hyper or any or the original versions of the game. It was all the SF2s mashed up into one...

My ideal AC would have been...all the individual games...would that have been so hard?

as much as I'd really like to play this game on my 360, if it's so much as 1 point over 800 I wont be getting it.

Also what the hell is taking them so long, I know people who could port this game in their sleep, the video we watched shows what looks like a 100% working and complete game and the guy is like "it comes out soon, so within 3 to 5 months"... since when is that "soon"  dry.gif

"SF2 will be available late March" - Sometime in February
"SF2 will be out at the end of April" - Early April
"SF2 will be on marketplace later this month" - May 1st

Anyone else see a pattern?  This has gone on for long enough that I don't care about it anymore.  Initially I would have bought it, but the digital pad on the 360 sucks so bad that I probably won't buy it if its more than 400 points.  I really don't know how you people are putting up with waiting.  I would like to get my hands on some Roboblitz though...

come back and tell me how weak they are after you're completed arcade mode without so much as getting hit by your enemy once, and earned a spot on the top 100 in the leaderboards.

Sorry there chief.  Not much time for games with finals and projects to do and I just got my gold account recovered after a lot of hastle, but you gotta admit most of those are very easy.  Top 100 is cool though, not that I would aim my sites on that.  The game is fun, but I don't know how long I can stand listening to those age old sounds again.  I hope there is an option to turn off background music.

.. and not to mention just had my 360 for about a month, starting new job, I lost all the points I got from Graw when I got my account recovered yesterday, so sorry Mr. cool gamer point dude with all the time in the world to play.  I haven't bought any xbla games until the other day b/c I wanted to have them on my recovered account.

I'm not knocking you for having a low number of points, just saying that someone who's earned as few XBLA achievmens as you doesn't have a basis for comments on how easy XBLA achievments are to earn.

Man, you'd think they would update the graphics a little. Keep it sprite based but redo the models. Shouldn't take that long to touch everything up a little and make things a little more colorful.

Might as well make Street Fighter 4 in that respect. Re-drawing sprites is tough...you would have to re-draw every frame of every movement over again.

I kid; I'm not getting this game, but it is disappointing at how long it's taking MS to release it.   sleep.gif

That was the best videogame April fools joke ever...too bad there is no Sheng Long. Ryu and Ken's master and Akuma's brother was named Gouken. Gouken and Gouki (Akuma) were both students of Gousetsu...

I worked for Chuck E Cheese as a Repair Tech on Video Games and the Robots. Now I work for one of the largest arcade operators in the country.....but I don't fix the games anymore....I buy merchandise for the cranes and bulk. I'm 27 and been in the video games business for over 8 years as an operator.  I don't think I'll ever grow up.  I remeber waiting in long lines to play SF2 and Virtua Fighter.  And then staying up all night long playing SF2 and using codes a buddy of mine gave me for the Game Shark.  Hyper Speed, Invinsibility, and a ton of others.  So I can't wait for the XBLA.

Standing in line for SF was awesome...I used to ride my bike 15 miles to get to the only arcade that had Super Turbo just to stand in line...but once I got on the machine I was all good. I usually only came with 2 or 3 dollars...but I could game all day on that wink.gif

Man I'd love to be an operator. Open like a GameWorks or Dave&Busters, we don't have any of those near me.

AFAIK there are only 2 arcades within 60 miles of my location, both of them are in wears beach and both of them are horrible, one specializes in classic games from the early 80s, and redemption, the other just a trash heap (the on I worked at  rolleyes.gif ) and only open seasonally.

Sounds like there would be a market for you then.  I'd actually love to see an arcade open up that has lots of 360's, Xbox's, Playstations, etc. all wired up to projectors.  Dunno the legality of that but it would be pretty damn cool.
