As far as I know, there was never a release date.
-
1up.com says today is the release date
-
Well here's hoping 1up's a day or two off
-
I don't pay much attention to 1up, so it's no wonder I didn't see a date.
However, I did hear that it was coming in March. Thought it was in an interview or one of Major Nelson's podcasts. So that means any day after 3/31 we should see it ;-)
-
I think I saw an April release date some where. Who knows.
-
just play genomety wars
that will keep you entertained until street fighter and i heard april
-
Ahh...found it...
Keynote remarks by Peter Moore at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show On January 4th of this year.

By March, we'll be proud to announce that more than 20 games will be available through Xbox Live Arcade, games like Streetfighter 2 from Capcom, games like Texas Hold 'Em and Marble Blast Ultra. Texas Hold 'Em will be the first fully sponsored game on Xbox Live Arcade, sponsored by our partners at (River Vail ?).
Guess it's not an accurate date... But from this source? I know Live Arcade games seem to be plauged with delays.
-
I can't wait for SF, though it's too bad the d-pad sucks on the new controllers
I'll be interesting to see how this texas hold-'em game pans out...
Here's thinking they'll let you gamble with MS points (since it's not real money and can't be converted back to cash).
that'd be something if down the road they do add actual products you can buy with them external to the XBLM.
He said 20 games by march right?
so far we've got:
Bankshot Billiards 2
Bejeweled 2
Crystal Quest
Gauntlet
Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved
Hardwood Backgammon
Hardwood Hearts
Hardwood Spades
Hexic HD
Joust
Marble Blast Ultra
Mutant Storm Reloaded
Outpost Kaloki X
Robotron: 2084
Smash TV
Wik: Fable of Souls
Zuma Deluxe
which is only 17
Jewel Quest
(Texas Hold'em Game)
(Street Fighter Game)
where due out in February, so they would have made 20 had they been released on time
March is supposed to bring:
Astropop
Feeding Frenzy
It'd be really sweet if the XBLA kept up with the full retail releases in terms of quantity... the Xbox 1's Arcade game selection was abysmal.
I've had a few ideas for XBLA games though I don't really have the time or the means to make it happen...

There's always the DOA4 stick... I actually hacked apart a wireless controller and using a few resistors replaced the analog sticks with wired in Happ Ultimate's... then wired up 6 arcade buttons between them in a MDF "wood" case(hopefully Ill get a tutorial up soon). Been using them for Geometry Wars, Mutant Storm, Robotron and Smash T.V.... but yeah...if people play this game RIGHT there is gonna be lots of broken controllers out there ;-).
My wish list for XBLA games is pretty small...Joust and Gauntlet are my two favorite arcade games. I'm hoping for an Activision version of Shanghai and Marathon from Bungie...longshots, but we can always hope.
-
I'd be happy with an arcade perfect versions of some of my old favorite 2D fighters: (with netplay and Leaderboards of course)
#1 Killer Instinct 2
#2 Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
#3 Eternal Champions (not an arcade game but awesome none the less)
#4 Killer Instinct 1
#5 Primal Rage
---
As for hacking up a wireless controller into an arcade joystick... not a bad idea, though it wouldn't be too difficult to hack one up into an adapter for something like an X-Arcade

I dunno about arcade perfect, but I'd take 720p versions of them (UMK3 wasn't my cup of tea, not after MK2). I also never got into the godzilla-like movements of Primal Rage, but if they cleaned that up, I'd buy it.
I hope SF2 comes out either today, or the end of the month, because I'll be busy with Burnout in the meantime. Who wants to bet it'll be 1200 MP?
-
maybe "Arcade Perfect" wasn't the right term, I think they'd be best to base the port off of the arcade version as at the time the arcade version was above and beyond the console ports.
It'd be nice if they upped the resolution, made them run at a higher FPS, and upped the color pallet of the sprites to match that of todays tech... maybe cleaned up the gameplay a bit to be more fluid and forgiving (particularly with titles like Eternal Champions and Primal Rage).
---
I hope it's not 1200MP... I probably wont be buying it if it's over 800. Seriously haven't they milked the series enough?
-
I won't pay over 800 either. And even that would be tough to swallow. Considering all the quarters and $$$ I slapped down in the arcades and stores respectively, they should give this game to me for free. "Milking" isn't really the term I'd use... how about "Jerked off until bloody"?.
Ohh, and bring me some Eternal Champions. That game was amazing. First environmental fatalities ever? Or was MK2 first?

MK1 had "The Pit" which anyone could upper cut someone off of.
It hit arcades in '92. Eternal Champions came out in '93 I believe.
MK2 which hit arcades in '93 (not sure if before or after ET) had a "The Pit II" (which was like "The Pit" but with no spikes) as well as the "Kombat Tomb" (spikes on the ceiling) and the "Deadpool" (acid bath).
BTW if you can get the Sega CD version of Eternal Champions, it's not just the Genesis version with better sound, about every aspect of the game was inproved... it could almost be considered a sequel.
-
MK would rock, but you know they will prolly milk the original first before 2 or 3.
The 360 dpad isn't as bad as the psp / playstation dpad at least.
-
The time frame was what I couldn't nail down. I had Eternal Champions for both the Genesis and Sega CD (yeah, I bought it... Sewer Shark!)
Man, I could go for some old school arcade action. I remember the Pit II really well because it was the first time I'd seen anyone break their neck in a fall. I was an impressionable youth...

I whole heartedly agree that the SNES had the best D-pad of any console. Actually ALL of Nintendo's controllers have fantastic D-pads. The GC is a little on the small side but still very good.
Sony has the 2nd best D-pads in my opinion, they're similar to the Nintendo D-pads in that they have a short throw and respond accurately but the separation chews up your fingers in 2D fighters.
The Xbox 1 D-pad was just OK, nothing special, it was a bit sloppy in that it has such a large throw you often hit up and right or down and right when you meant to just hit right. The 360 has this same problem with the ADDED problem that it also floats a little bit in the controller housing. Meaning that you can physically push the D-pad against the plastic housing in any direction. When you go to push that direction it will hit the case before it registers making it so you have to push much harder in that direction. It would seem that this isn't limited to any specific controller either, I have 4 wireless controllers and HAD 1 wired and they all did it, as do those controllers of my friend's.
-
I agree with Twistedsymphony. The SNES had one amazing d-pad. It was so good that it really is a big part of why the Mario games on that system are so much fun to play. I think the NEs had a tough d-pad. It worked well, but it sure hurt to use for more than an hour. I've had a hard time playing DOA4 on the 360 because you end up accidentally jumping when you want to simply approach with a combo. I hope that the d-pad doesn't get in the way of my insane hadoken skills.
-
Sorry...the best D-Pad by huge leaps and bounds is the original Sega Saturn pad...nothing comes close...I have used any and every pad/controller/arcade stick for Street Fighter and it is the best.

That is the ultimate pad. I can only dream that someday we can use it on the 360...
On a side Note Lizard I would love to see that tutorial.

Well, In my many years in front of a computer, Ive had my first catastrophic HD crash. So, I gotta take new pics...think Im just gonna do a complete mod over again....so yes, keep your eyes peeled for a DIY arcade controller.
-
metaldevil, the PS2 gamepad has the same pressure sensitive buttons as the Xbox 1 controllers
sorr Shinamano but I'd have to disagree with you on the saturn d-pad, I've never liked Sega's dpads, Pre DC they've always been too big, and the DC had a D-pad similar to those on the xbox, in that it's too tall.
IMO if you just threw a SNES D-pad on a new 360 controller, and moved the back and start buttons to where they were on the controllers S you'd have the most solid controller ever made.
-
agreed...
I'd like to see someone make a line of solid classicly designed game pads with generic cords like the X-Arcade joysticks... buy a set of controllers and use them for life.
Even better they could create a single wireless standard and simply sell you the appropriate dongle for whatever console.

My thoughts exactly.
I guess only a hardcore Street Fighter fan would really know
You can still find the Japanese version which is considered even better than the American version.
It was just sleeker and more comfortable.
Sega re-released these control pads for the PS2 and they're just as great as they were back then.
Here's hoping someone comes up with a PS2 to Xbox 360 adapter....
Don't get me wrong, the top arcade sticks are great.
There's no better way to experience the arcades at home than with a good quality arcade stick.
But my fingers are much quicker than my wrists, that's why when it comes to 2D fighting games, d-pads are the best. Who can argue against physics?
-
I have the launch version of the saturn with those pads and I remember the sharp round thingies digging painfully into my thumb in some sweaty virtua fighter matches.. especially with VF2 one of those bank teller's rumbber thumbs woulda been handy.
The worst was Tomb Raider when it was the most next gen game ever, 3 weeks of playing it straight after christmas took its toll on the dpad thumb.
Bytheby the ABC XYZ controller was introduced on the Megadrive/Genesis just for Super Streetfighter II and select other games then used it also. I was happy to see the xbox duke having almost the same configuration of buttons but the S and now finally the 360 controller took it back to the SNES configuration.
Also with the sega controllers you could also hit one row of buttons with your thumb (A+B+C) which is something much harder to do with todays controllers and afaik no game uses three face button moves these days?
-
I was (and still am) a big Sega and Street Fighter Fan. When the Saturn in all of its 2D glory came out I have never needed another controller for a 2D fighting game again...
The Dreamcast allowed easy connection of the Saturn controller and the Xbox also had an adapter to accomidate the greatest controller ever...here is hoping that someone does the same for the 360...
As for classic controllers there is a company (cant think of the name) that will take old controllers and hook them up with USB ports...I wonder if we will be able to use them on the 360...it would be cool to have a SNES and Saturn Pad rocking old school games on XBLA.

Here's the Japanese version of the Sega Saturn control pad!

As you can see, it's basically one of the 6 button Sega Genesis controllers that Sega brought out for Street Fighter 2. It's a little bit more ergonomic and has two shoulder buttons.
It's like perfect and is still a sought after pad.
Like I said, its such a popular pad that it prompted Sega to re-release it for the PS2 to accompany its line of Sega Ages PS2 titles.
I was pissed when Sega ditched the 6 button face design when the Dreamcast launched.
When they said the reason was for simplicity purposes, a nasty feeling came to my stomach as I realized it was the end of 6 button faced controllers
-
The lack of 6-button layouts bothers me as well...
I do still prefer the pad i posted, but the other is a close second.

I think the only thing that would keep me from buying a better controller for the 360 is if it's wired. It'd be like taking a step forward while falling backwards.
If you have the skills and a controller large enough you should be able to hack up a wireless 360 controller and say, make a joystick connect to the 360 wirelessly.
I'm planing a mod along those lines myself (hence the request in the sig).

...where is streetfighter?

I can do minor electronic modifications without difficulty (modchips and such), but I've never attempted anything of that caliber.
It's not all that hard. I'm sure you've seen the tutorial for moving the shoulder button to the old Black and White positions, well, it's like that.....but on a grander scale.
I don't have a great understanding of electronics, so as soon as you get into logic I'm done. But basically, the Analog Joysticks are two axis potentiometers (variable resitors). I just measured the reistance at centered for X (Left and Right) and pushed all the way right and all the way left. I left the Analog sticks in, so when nothing was being touched, the joyatick was centered (If you removed the analog sticks, it would not be centered as resistance for X and Y would both be 0 (Left and Down I believe). So I ran a direct wire from the X stick ground to the left switch on the Happ Joystick and back to one of the pots pins (the one that measured changing resistance when the joystick is moved). Then I did the same with the Right side, but used 5v power to the right switch for the Happ Joystick and back to the measurable pot pin. Did the same for up and down, and added buttons... once tested, i added the other stick.
This is the mod I did for the original Xbox controller (at least what I remeber of it)...the wireless is different, and I actually used resistors and removed the analog sticks (for use in another project). I can't remember everything...a lot of things I did on the fly, and im surprised it worked so well. I had pics and text for a tutorial almost done, but a HD crash has killed my motivation. With SF2 coming though, I will need another stick..... hmmm....

I'd love to see a tut if you get around to making another one.
