and someone could reply with "something is wrong with anyone that liked the demo". Its all subjective. I thought it was ludicrous that people actually enjoyed that pos army game demo that hit a few months back, but who am I to say what others should like. I still say people who think Chromehounds is worth more than $2.00 are all nutso, but life marches on  tongue.gif

I personally found no enjoyment in N3 whatsoever. I was very excited about this game when we didnt know much about it, but when the videos started cropping up and we saw nothing but hack and slash, I knew then that it wasnt my type. Same happened to Too Human after seeing it at E3. It is nothing like I expected, and thats my fault for trying to make it something its not.

If you like this type of hack and slash, you'll be in heaven. But with all the blockbusters due in the next 4 months, spend wisely now or some may find themselves with not enough $$ when Gears, Splinter Cell, R6 Vegas, HL 2, Fear, Forza 2 and others hit this fall.

I totally agree. Saw an unflattering review of it a couple of months ago in Edge and so haven't at all been interested in it ever since.

These kinds of titles are generally only popular in Japan. I know that there is always gonna be some people who like it but for me it is just too boring. Nice detail on the main characters and the special moves but apart from that I wasn't impressed.

The only hack and slash game I have liked in the past few years is Otogi.

I just played the demo, it was amazing.... for all of 2 minutes. It got boring and repetitive real quick. All you do is repetitively hit the x and y buttons and hit those goblins for MASSIVE DAMAGE!!!.
Title: N3 Ninety-nine Nights Demo On Marketplace
Post by: Carlo210 on July 30, 2006, 04:42:00 PM
Look, to most of you, it's boring because ALL YOU DO is press x and y repetitively. To others, you just don't like the game. Simple. It happens to the best of us.
Anyways, there are many different moves you can pull off, and they aren't all 'pointless animations' either.
Large group? Use RT + Y to hook one on your blade and whirl away nearby enemies. A few on your tail? Press X, the Y repetitively to do consecutive stabs against them.
A lot of enemies in front of you? Press x x x y y to perform a spear-tornado attack where you, at the end of the attack, blow away enemies in a 5 foot radius.
600 enemies approaching? Press B and unleash your orb attacks and see them fly hopelessly into the sunset.

Fable's combat system - now THAT is a mindless x x x x x x x x x x x fest. Cast the random enflame every now and then, and you're fine.
But N3... to keep yourself and your guards safe for the final fight (against the fatass troll, 20+ mages, and 900 or so goblins in this case), you can't rely on random x and y button mashes. You gotta know which groups of enemies to eliminate to keep yourself and your guards safe (and effective), especially at the end. Fish out the goblin mages and use 1v1 combos to kill them, or else you'll have to do the mission over because they'll kill you in a flash with their lightning (pun intended!).

I liked the game, but it probably had the worst production value I've seen on the 360 so far. I mean, the cutscenes were alright, and the trailer in the begining was cool, but the in-game voice acting and cutscenes were horrid. I mean, they were "EA Games Lord of the Rings"-type bad.

La... Landslide!! Reminded me of TMNT4 on SNES.

Probably won't buy the game, but it's fun if you play with variety. It's not like all you do is randomly slash enemies - you'll die that way against the harder enemies and larger groups of goblins. Well, you'll lose half of your health and then die once the next barrage of archers/mages come along your way. I also don't think the rest of the game will be easy (the mages at the end pissed me off but good).
If you use a wide variety of combos (there are a lot of different kinds), then it gets much more enjoyable.
Yes, it is a hack and slash game, and the overall fighting system may seem like all you gotta do is hit em with random slashes, but I doubt it's the same when you got 700+ goblins, mages, and ogres on your ass - you aren't going to get by without the right array of moves. Personally, that's what I found enjoyable about the game. To all his own, though. Me - I don't understand how people like DOA4, Table Tennis, and so forth. This goes to show that we don't all have the same taste in videogames. Therefore, don't flame me.
Later. biggrin.gif

Oops, forgot to mention - I'm now pretty bored of the demo after 5-6 go throughs (3 of which were because of failed missions).
Also, N3 isn't my type of game - I'm just shedding my view on what I thought was 'enjoyable'.

Well, fables combat was cool int he beginning. A lot of cool magic moves and what not. After a while (near the end, where I am right now), it got pretty dry. I mean, using melee is the only viable choice to combat, since you can do around 350 dmg in one hit with no augmentations.

Overall, it was pretty fun, but that doesn't mean it didn't end up being an x x x x combat system (since swords owned later on). I still use enflame and charge a lot, but just to mix things up. They aren't really effective or anything.

Games like this make me happy I'm not Japanese.

And games like FF7 do too?
Personally, I prefer most Japanese games over american games (when it comes to rpgs, specifically).
That may be because I enjoy the way japanese developers put a great emphasis on story and design elements. I mean, japanese game artists/music composers/etc get a reputation in the industry for what they do.
I mean, western games are great too, I guess I'm thinking mroe about rpg's and whatnot, mostly because I like a handful of jap-rpgs a lot.
That's another thing. I HATE all of the western 'J.R.R. Tolkien'-infused stuff. Everything is 'goblin, mage w/staff, knight, elf, dwarf, etc'. Sure, very few japanese games have some of these ideas in them, but overall - japanese rpgs are much more interesting and imaginative, part of the reason why japanese rpg-creators get reputations in the japanese industry. Ever remember hearing "Shinoto Miyanaro is making the new japanese RPG "bla bla bla"?

Anywho, western games are still great. For example, fps. I mean, most of them are fun, simple, and action packed. Nothing like fragging your friends in a good capture the flag match. Tactical shooters are my favorite (socom2 being my most favorite in terms of implementation), and bla bla bla.

I'm just saying that Japanese games are good too. Don't bash them just because they release a game that will most likely FLOP in Japan anyways. They are capable of making bad games.

Anywho, if you just don't flat out like any japanese game and, instead, live with western games , then that's fine. Personally, I've been starting to see a refilling handful of American games to be uninspired and low-quality, mostly when it comes to action games and rpgs. Don't flame me for saying I don't like some Western developers' games. It's just a preference.
Personally, I find myself getting more excited for Japanese games. I'm also more confident in japanese games when they're in developmet and I'm generally more confident that they'll make a quality title.

I dunno, whatever. I still play Western games, because I like them too. It's just that, when it comes to certain genres (mostly), the Japanese just plain do it better in my own opinion.

I must say, though. My favorite RPGs from Japan have amazing artstyles and are very imaginative. The whole Final Fantasy look has changed dramatically throughout the years. Though a lot of western gamers are put off by newer Final Fantasy's, for example - I fiind it really refreshing. Especially compared to the generic squad commander who has to eliminate a terrorist threat or whatnot.
Japanese RPGs have opened my mind thourougly more than most/any Western game in general.

Preferences are preferences. Woohoo for variety, boys and girls!
MAybe I should look into the new Rainbow 6 game, I haven't liked any tactical shooters since Socom 2.

Full Auto was awesome (people who only played the demo or less need not comment) a grungy arcade racing at it's best save for missing a few mutiplayer options I loved that game

Perfect Dark Zero missed the ball on gameplay but graphcially the game was pretty damn good, especailly for a title that was started for the Xbox 1, ported over, rushed, and looked like total crap before release. If they play tested it and realized how slow and clunky the gameplay was it might have been the smash hit they thought it would be.

As for EA titles... Burnout? Fight Night? BF2? I'll agree that EA does make a lot of crap but they're like any other large publishing house... a few winners and a whole LOT of loosers. The same can be said for the 360 games on a whole... or any console for that matter to varying degrees.

I haven't played the demo for this yet but I'll be sure to try it out. I liked some of the older Dynasty Warrior games and I loved Devil May Cry on the PS2. I like the more personal battles more then the massive war battles shown here, I think N3 looks promising and if not Too Human might be more to my liking. Beat 'em ups aren't all that bad  rolleyes.gif

Its no surprise I lost all interest in Too Human when I saw gameplay vids a few months back. Not even the U3 engine can get me to buy it sad.gif

played the demo and its a rental to me.  even though i loved kingdom under fire, i got that for $20, and deftech is right there are too many block busters coming out too soon for my broke ass.

the game was impressive with the effects and number of enemies on the screen.  however it was not enough to warrent a purchase, especially since i am still undecided about another beat-em-up dead rising coming out so soon as well.

as for judging games before actually trying them, well i wont do it but that doesnt stop others from being judgemental.  to some, just because they dont care for the game, it sucks.

PDZ:  looks better then i expected for an xbox1 port but still gameplay wise nothing special and obviously rushed.

Full Auto:  graphically impressive and im sure a riot on LIVE, for sure one of the best arcade racer on the 360

EA games:  while some are graphically impressive (FNR3) they have been cut back from the last generation of features which is a real shame.  i'm more of a 2k fan myself.

The Outfit:  i can see what their goal was and just because the game is graphically unimpressive i wont call it crap but the game is definatly sub-par compared to what else is out there.

I thought it was fun. I liked Kingdom Under Fire (both) alot. This has great graphics, even better cinemas (if all are like the intro), the controls seem pretty responsive, lots of characters onscreen, cool moves, and a few others. I do find the camera angles to be a bit hard to get used to, they were in KUF though also.

I think anybody that liked Kindom Under Fire will like this game. I feel it to be a refresher after having beat both KUF's on xbox 1.

I agree with carlos that there are lots of moves and you do need to use them accordingly or you will be pwned by the massive armies in no time.

Overall I like it and will most likely buy it when it comes out, but I think I will get Dead Rising first still.
