Xbox360's backwards compatibility: More titles and saved games? -- Posted by XanTium on November 6 12:40
Spanish Rare-fan-site Mundorare.com claims they received some new information about the Xbox360's backwards compatibility from sources inside Microsoft.
In addition to Halo and Halo 2, they say the Xbox 360 will also play all other Microsoft Game Studios games and Rare's 'Conker and Grabbed By The Ghoulies'. As said before to make an Xbox game work on the Xbox 360 you'll need to download a 'driver' on Xbox LIVE, so you'll need a 360 with harddisk (some 'drivers' will probably be preloaded on HD already).
They also repeat the rumor that Halo and Halo 2 will get slightly improved graphics on the 360, and maybe some other titles too in the future.
What's really new is that the article claims there will be a way to transfer your original Xbox saves to your Xbox 360 via Ethernet from HD to HD. So if true maybe your saved games won't be lost after all...

Hmm... what if our HDs on our Xboxes are unlocked (I know it's easy to lock, I'm just saying) and we are running a hacked bios?

I dont think you will need to worry about what saves it copies over..
You will probably be asked by the 360 which saves you want transfered.

i don't believe the report, at least the gamesave part.  i want it to be true.  some of my saves, such as the 2 PGR2 downloads, i had to pay for.  i have no intention of doing it again for my 360.  we will see.  you would think this close to launch they would have some kind of concrete anouncements on their website. rolleyes.gif

Well if you did have to download them again, you wont have to pay for them again.. i think all payments and such are tracked on live not just your xbox. so it will know you have already paid for it.

wrong.  i purchased the 2 PGR2 downloads on one xbox that was modded.  i was stupid and got banned.  was forced to change the eeprom.  downloads no longer worked.  purchased another xbox for live only.  went to download PGR2 extras.  had to pay again.

What I mean is, I wonder what will happen with the exploitable games and their saves.  Maybe we'll by luck be able to mess with Xbox 1 homebrew programs : p.  XBMC hehe

...that's if this news snipplet is true anyway.

While I want to be able to transfer my savegames to the 360, I think that there is more to it than a simple network connection. For this to be true we would need to have some host software running within the original XBox to be able to transfer saves in the first place, and I sincerely don't believe MS envisioned that circa 2001. If so, we would be able by now to transfer savegames between boxes connected with network cables. Of course, they can add such host software to the current XBox with a dashboard update through Live, but who knows.

One feasible yet costly solution would be to have an USB adapter to connect the XBox to the 360 using the current controller port. The 360 in this scenario would behave as an memory card and the XBox would be able to copy savegames to it as usual.

Anyway, whatever happens will be coming our way in 16 days  jester.gif .

Could come in the form of either a dashboard update or a transfer kit (pop included transfer disc into Xbox) or both.

MS has released a non-game software program before for Xbox, the Media Center Extender disc.

I very much dislike the fact that MS still isn't coming out on the real specs of BC. What games are supported? Everything that has sold a x amount of copies? The titles that have been released this year? Just Halo 1+2? Is Halo enhanced? Will the other games be enhanced by the hardware? Is it just 480p, 480p+AA or 720p+all the goodies?

This is becoming a big issue for me since I play PES a lot, which won't be coming out on x360 anytime soon. I'd feel pretty stupid having that x360 and having to boot old Xbox every time I want to play some footie. Plus, I'd be buying Half-Life 2 right away if it looks better on x360, otherwise I've decided not to get any more Xbox titles.

I'm afraid we'll only hear the real deal on 22th when first people have carried their x360's home from shops.
