It's great that you can talk with friends and buy thing over the 360 and do your taxes and bake a cake ... but those features are not thrilling to me....at least not at first.

The first thing I look forward to is the games and the enhancements made to a genre.

Enhancments not only include graphics....

I am looking forward to games that offer something more than a Halo... I look forward to more of an experience like for say Half Life where you actually feel in the game.

Enhanced graphics is the 1st prereq for any new console.. that is where it starts and should not be where it ends... and that is where the extra "crap" "stuff" ad-ons the 360 is offering comes into play... slightly.

I really look forward to better story telling, unique games, even crazy games like Seaman....

Maybe evn the ability for a friend or stranger to team up with you over live or sys link and play a campaign game... with extra "stuff"

I do not look forward to ayone telling me what games will be compatible / the best selling games? ... the most popular? I hate the games they are thinking about right now..ie Fable,PGR,Crimson etc

I just really expect alot of difference and a better "video game experience" this time around from both 360 and the ps3... at this very moment only 3 title looks absolutely different or something new to offer and all around 10 good looking titles.

Hopefully I will be satisfied seeing as how I will graduate from college this Fall and have plenty of time to get my game on.

So is it Next Gen enough... maybe... only time will tell

Goddamn retards. I really don't see how anyone could think the 360 isn't next gen. Look at the games coming out for it.

Well.. previously console generations have had big differences between them. n64 YAY 3D!!!, Xbox, you can actually tell what the hell your looking at.

xbox 360... umm so far its been higher resolutions, and better models.

I'm still waiting for a game, that couldn't have been on the xbox, with worse graphics of course.

another game to compare between system (just came to mind) is chrome hounds (360 for the uninformed) compared to the real-time (real crap) vid of gundam that was shown running on the ps3.  

for anyone who has seen vids of both, you know how much of a difference there was in graphical quality.

You might as well take a pic of an NFL game and use that as Madden '06 concept art. It may look pretty, but we know the real thing ain't gonna be anything like that.

I wanted to add that i dont wish m$ to take over and monopolize the industry because competion is always key to make everything better ....we would never have gone to the moon if it wasnt for the competion of the russians..so ps3 welcome and get ready to battle..in the end either you are with us or you are not.

my honest belief about the next gen is that the games will look so good there wont be a difference between systems.  i just have a problem with people being ignorant and downplaying the 360's power before they have even seen it.

anyone that thinks Cliffy isnt capable of making such a game needs to seek therapy.

It takes 2 things to get a game like Gears to look good..

The fuggin game Engine, and the fuggin genious developers using said engine.

You mate the devs with the engine THEY fuggin made, which just so happens to be THE BEST engine around, and you get Gears of War.

All the U3 engine games look to be great graphically. Look at Huxley and others.

Several points:

A. We are still over two months away from the console launch, plus whatever amount of time it takes for various additional titles to launch. A lot can happen, both good and bad, in two months.

B. It seems some people on these forums are expecting next-gen consoles to be huge steps, graphically, over what was previously capable on a system. The problem with this expectation is that there are several aspects to video games, and graphics is only one of them. There's also sound, control, physics, gameplay, replayability, and simple fun factor. The only way we can see games right now is through screenshots (which have the potential to capture 100% of the quality of the graphics of only one frame), and videos (which, due to the nature of the internet and web hosting, are of much lower quality than the game they are portraying). Video has the capability to show a little of the sound and physics, but nowhere near what the game can offer. Neither medium shows what the game is truly like, how it feels to play it, how much fun it really is. In effect, we're looking through a small fogged window into a potentially tremendous world. Some of us have faith (for lack of a better word) that we will be rewarded come launch day.

In the end, it all comes down to this: what do you look for in a new system? Personally, I want to play Saints Row and see cars and bodies go flying. I want to play Project Gotham Racing and marvel at the hundreds of spectators lining the raceways and the photorealistic buildings whooshing past. I want to play Kameo and roll through hundreds of enemies at a time. I want to play Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and immerse myself in an alternate world filled with details that rival the best fantasy novels written. But none of this is possible right now without the Xbox 360.

It seems like all the doubters ("that looks like shit", "xbox 1.5", "doesn't look next-gen") are simply trying to convince themselves that they shouldn't purchase it. That's fine; it's your money. But don't try to make us ones that are sold on it out to be blind, or mindless fanbois, or deluded.

By the way, this may come off more intense than I intended. I'm simply looking forward to the launch, and I'm getting (understandably?) tired of the negative comments here and elsewhere.

With all that said, I will be buying an Xbox 360 (I actually prepaid for it a month ago in full).

But if I didn't have an HDTV, I definately wouldn't care too much about it other than the fact that the current Xbox is dying off and there won't be any new games for it.

The current games coming out for the Xbox 360 really don't impress me... I'm still hoping Perfect Dark Zero will be fantastic.

I said it before and I'll say it again, the next generation hit the PC's before it did on the consoles. Games like Doom 3 and Half Life 2 were the first true next gen titles. I had a feeling the consoles and the next generation of PC cards were only going to be a marginal improvement after that, and not the a huge jump in generations like many were expecting.

Just like the Xbox 1 , the best graphical games didn't arrive until year 1+ and same for PS2

But, just a comment for all those Sony fans. Over the past 5 1/2 years i have had 3 PS2's and 4 Xbox's. I get bored of them and sell them and then want them again. I loved sony and PS1 was awesome. when Ps2 came out i bought it (another quick note for people complaining about price.. the PS2 was $549.99 CAD when it came out and Xbox360 is $399.9 CAD... $150 cheaper for all that power) anyway back on track.... Ps2 was and is good.... Xbox 1 is also good and I prefer the Xbox over Ps2. But as a person who has played and owned multiple PS2's / Xbox's I have allot of expereince. first off, hardware Xbox is more reliable, so many Ps2 lasers are crap..... I had mine replaced so many times, Xbox had that shitty Thompson drive but besides that no worries.

***My main point is this: Take a PS2 game and an XBOX game.... I know people are going to count pixels and shit but the truth is (for a normal gamer) the cross platform games look the same hardly any difference. So that being said, PS3 and Xbox360 cross platform games will not look much different. The game developer , like EA, makes 1 game and then ports it to the other console. The only difference will be (which is the same now with PS2 / Xbox) is the EXCUSIVE titles. Basically do you like Metal Gear Solid & Gran Turismo ??? Or Halo & Project Gotham Racing?? Other than that Battlefield 2, Sprots, etc.. will all be cross platform titles

Yeah, the 360 is next gen enough for me.

ALthough the REVOLUTION controller made me even more sure I will be getting Nintendos new console and Kojima has just sold me on the PS3... damn, The next few years is going to be expensive.

wether or not if its good enough we are going to have to deal...........I for one will deal with all 3 nexgen consoles

I simply dont want to choose...........Why should i Slight my self and choose which system and games to play or I.E. Miss ou on...........

I hope its what i expect tho you know that an american own company as MS is. Can very well Sell you a lie! but its deeper than we all think.............As PS3 and 360 were developed they both have to keep in mind to have some type of system where developers can comprehend the technology thuss make similar games on different platforms.............

I really dont think we will see a big differencen in which system is the best at first.........But anyone with a brain will say PS3 and I am a Xbox Guy

I just want to see how they handle this XB LIVE thingy sounds interesting, better yet time comsuming

Its suspicious unless you take into account the whole "certain devs will make the ps3 sing while others will flounder" debate.

I sincerely believe that the ps3 will suffer greatly from titles that look downright bad next to the bigname exclusives. The same will happen to the 360, but not to the same degree.

I'm not calling BS, this is what I expect at the LEAST. I've seen some serious next gen stuff so nothing really wows me, yet. However, I also believe there is a strategic plan as well. This holiday season will be a huge one for both MS and other current gen devs. If some of the truely jaw-dropping stuff is released, I can see an immediate drop in sales (a crucial time period) as potential customers save for the next big thing.

i thought the MGS4 vid was impressive as all hell even though it was scripted with no AI or physics to worry about.  but its not surprising because just like the 360 i always knew the ps3 would be a powerful machine.  i would love to see how the game would look on the 360

I'm impressed with MGS4 as well.  Alpha kit or not, it's looking great.  On the other hand, it damn sure better look fantastic on a system that's (an estimated) $500 at launch.  I'll be buying a PS3 and a 360 if both have games I want, but at $500 (it's a guess, don't jump on my nuts) it better have Twisted Metal, Warhawk, Wipeout, and Devil May Cry at the very least.

All I can say is this...I am stoked about the 360 and the games that will be released for it. I will also get both the Rev and the PS3...but if games like PDZ, Halo 3 and GOW do not match the visual quality of MGS4 the 360 is in for a rough ride...

I know that the developer is responsible for how a game looks but so far artistic direction goes to MGS4 hands down...and have you seen the image for Assassin?

Here is hoping that MS has a sweet PDZ video to rival the MGS4 one or Sony walks away from yet another show the clear winner...

Whoever thinks that the video is running real time is crazy....

The first 30 to 40 seconds looks real time until old snake grabs the enemy look again

after that it goes completly rendered garanteed..(im not saying its not possible)


All i have to say about next gen is 360LIVE that will seperate the next gen...

nothing else really matters. that is the key in my opinion and of coarse (hdtv's)

and now people dont need a credit card so i bet 360LIVE will more than double..the gamers

imagine just going to bestbuy to get a game and while you are at it you get an extra 3 months ,6,or 12month live.....sweet.

It looks like 360 and ps3 could have similar graphics but in the end i would rather play and be part of an online community...and ps3 wont have an online presence like M$ will............having been an original playsation fan i can really say that M$
won me over with xboxlive.

The Rev controller sounds cool...I don't think many people will give it a chance in the states, but if does catch on I can see MS and Sony putting out a verion of their own as a n extra...

While the MGS4 trailor/pics were good, i do not think they are any better then oblivion or GoW.  And they are no where near as good as the FMV of KZ2.  I beleive that the MGS4 footage are in-game cut-scenes, aka. like halo's, and not FMV.  But seriously, why do you think they are so much better?  It's beyond me.

And besides that, you keep saying how much better ps3 gameS (plural) look compared to the x360's.  What other ps3 games, besides MGS4 (which i do not think looks better then some of the x360 games), look better then anything the 360 has to offer.  Hell, what other ps3 game is there out with in-game graphics?  You're comparing non existing ps3 games to real 360 games.

Please back-up you ps3 bias with proof.

EDIT: And the RE5 trailor blows away, graphically, the MGS4 trailor.  No comparison, IMO.

Look at the E3 videos, this game looked like shit at first.
I even brought this game up to prove the point that the PS3 wasn't the second coming of Christ like Sony fanboys were saying (at that time).
Now compare the old videos to the new TGS videos and the game looks way better! It's not as good looking as the typical Sony pulled-out-of-the-ass trailers but it looks pretty good to me. Definately as good as some of the Xbox 360 games we've seen.

I'm posting this to show how this PS3 game in particular, mirrors what we have seen in the developement progress of most Xbox 360 games.
But no where do we see this alleged PS3 God-like power every Sony groupie's dripping wet from....
