It really shouldn't be that difficult to reproduce in the upcoming generation.
The problem with the poor attempts we have seen up to this point is that developers, while giving the graphics a boost, they ignore the gameplay.
So what we have are games that look pretty good, but have dull gameplay.
I want to see beat'em titles with deep combo systems such as Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox (Remember Gaurdian Heros for the Saturn). Can you imagine that? And with the future of online gaming, this would be the perfect genre for co-op other than FPS's and MMO's.
I can imagine the possibilites here, interactive 3D levels and cooperative moves.

Damn, I'm in the wrong business. I should be a game designer lol
PS....
There are a couple of high profile beat'em ups headed to the Xbox and PS2 later this year. One of them is from Capcom, are you familiar with Final Fight?
I hope it's more than just another bland beat'em up title!

isn't DOA Code Cronos supposed to be a sort of beat 'em up adventure game?
It's wasn't totally a beat em up, more of a shooter but anyone here ever play Cannon Spike on the DC
