that last comment just made my lunch so much tastier!

anyways, impressive stuff.........how does 'procedural synthesis' affect cpu performance? the system probably would be capable of more if it didnt have to worry about this.

didn't this win the 96kb demo comp some times ago... its essentially a d3d program packaged using a high level compressor into a small self extracting self running file.  The actual exe that runs is FAR larger than what you see.

The renderer setup is impressive tho primative in places (lots of shader work)
The game is almost non-existent
The procedural side is both realtime and pre-game startup (from what I can see), generating a lot of textures from seeds and geometry using primatives and CSG is likely.

Procedural synthesis is the way forward however it will take a LONG time before it takes over...even when it does.. you still need some static geo.

want to meet singles in your area? then register for xbox scene today whether your gay or straight or both of the above.....

i played that game ages ago, i remember it featured in PC Gamer over here about a year ago or more, and yes it did win some award. maybe they should just stick a floppy drive in the 360, would keep costs down. i would like to see what they could do with say 1.4mb, would be quite impressive.

smile.gif. I remember this game.  The 96k size is awesome biggrin.gif . Now if M$ gets their hands on these guys ..... Can you imagine the type & size of games that could fit on a DVD9 ? Nintendo Game Cube did pretty well with its 1.3Gb Mini DVD. Those games look as good (or better) than some xbox games. SONY's trying to push the BR technology, but the USA isnt really ready for it yet. Heck,... some video & retail stores still carry VHS. But once that's completely out of the system, then you wil see change.  More space doesnt create better games (look @ the PC).  Better Programming, Utilization of hardware technology & listening to what the people want, Makes a Great game. This time around, I think M$ listened. SONY should do the same.

You can learn something from everybody, but you can learn neverthing from GOD. smile.gif

Only issue using scene type systems is the ammount of memory required. Even though the executable is small and textures procedural, those textures still need to be stored somewhere after being generated.  This is a techdemo, very fancy and skilled coding, but i dont think youll be seeing it as a replacement for tried and true raster texture maps and the like.

actually its funny he should mention that as it give us a perspective of just HOW space consuming these fmv are.

ok for arguements sake, at 800x 600 rez, with images apporoximately 60KB each, at 60 fps you have about 3,600 KB  or 3.5 MB per sec.  so one minute of full motion video at 800x600 rez at 60 fps bumps you up to 215MB per minute.  So for ten minutes of Full Motion Video at this rez you are now suddenly talking 2GB for video that was produced from an game compressed down to 96KB.

hmmm....  96KB vs 2GB  wow astonishing...
