Post by: Australian Rat on July 07, 2005, 03:18:00 AM
Props to Twasi cause I'm kinda stealing their idea tongue.gif

But without turning this into a flame post of games you dislike, what would you like to see die with the first xbox?

Personally, I'd love to see an end to the Bloodrayne series.  It was just a bad idea from the beginning.

Hmm, Driv3r for sure. GTA series would be nice if it died biggrin.gif  Umm third choice would have to be the Madden series. I'm so tired of seeing the same re-hashed game with a few new players and switched up stats every year.

Street Fighter...seriously that's enough

James Bond...same as above

Grand Theft Auto...unless it takes place in the middle east, then I'd buy it

Serious Sam

Psi Ops

Pretty much EVERY first person shooter for Xbox doesn't need a sequel. When you play any of the Halos, you will realize how much thought Bungie has put into the game and the great support behind it. I try playing other FPS games, but I just don't have a feel for them.

Halo... kinda.  The only reason I want Halo on 360 is so they finish the damn story.  Halo 2 was like sex without orgasm... decently pleasing until the lack of a big finish.  But beyond Halo 3, Halo needs to die a noble death.

I'd like to see FIFA die off... and be replaced with Winning Eleven.  FIFA2005 has nothing on WE8 except EA's PR muscle.

Mascot games in general.  Chronic the Hemp-hog, Crash Bandaid-cooch, etc... I'm tired of companies trying to make cute fuzzy animals have badass attitudes just to give a system an icon for little kids to identify with.

$20 games.  If a company can't put its heart and soul into a game, then they shouldn't be making one.  I won't buy a game that's less than $40 because I'm *afraid* of what's not worth the $20 inside.  Unless it's a platinum collection, make the game WORTH $40 or more.

GTA-style Crime games.  If it's not a MMOG leave it at the door.  GTA's been done to death.  Mission games are fine, but when it becomes a challenge to keep your character thin... it's time to die.  I want to go up against human competitors in a turf match.

Unfortunatly, you'll never get rid of sports games that have yearly updates... there are just too many people who will pay $50 for an updated roster.  What I think they should do is make the game $60 and send roster updates via content download; then they can save the REAL game/engine upgrades for a NEW game every 2 years.

Mortal Kombat.  I really loved Deception despite it's awful (compared to DOA) gameplay.  However, I think we need to say goodbye to this game and its 7 ( ohmy.gif ) or more iterations.  A new fighting game with fatalities would be fun, just not with the words Mortal and Kombat in the title.

Dead to Rights... they haven't gotten it right yet, they aren't going to.  Max Payne has a better story anyway.

WWII games in general.  I swear there were no less than 4 WWII FPS games at E3 this year.  Why?  How many ways can you fight the same 4 year battle??  It's history, leave it there... for at least a few years.

Games based on movies.  I saw the movie... I don't want to play it.  Chances are developers butchered the content anyway.  Constantine? Fantastic 4? Riddick?  All terrible in my book.  Spiderman 2 was the only exception to this.

Hmm, I'm sure I'll think of more later.

I'm really getting tired of all the halo 2 bashing. Yeah, MAYBE it wasn't as good as Halo 1. It still is one of the best games on xbox. GTA is a great series. Anyone can get into it pretty easily.

mechassault. lame as crap, takes very little skill
all atari sports games, they redefined sub-par
tony hawk. they are all the same.

what they should make is a mature version of super smash bros with master chief, max payne, some characters from upcoming perfect dark 0, MK characters. would be pretty awesome.

LPW Riddick? really?

That's easily one of my favorite Xbox games... the only thing it was missing was multiplayer.

I agree that typically games based on movies blow, but there is the occasional shining star. As you pointed out Spiderman is a good game, I felt Riddick was as well also there are lots of good Star Wars games (some are bad but some are even better than the friggin movies).

Too true about Fight Club.  I was so excited by its potential and let down by its release.

And Enter the Matrix... GOD!  WHY?  My favorite movie reduced to a mediocre game.  Matrix Online looks better, but I'm not interested anymore.  I can only touch a hot stove so many times.

Anyway, I'd kinda like to see just about every major franchise take a new direction.  I'd like to see genres merged.  Racing and fighting games?  Burnout Revenge.  RTS and Platformer?  World of Warcraft.  What other grand possiblities are out there?

anyways..........
they should stop any sequels to games that only have one thing going for it : theyre different. Those that use their unorthodox approach as a crutch or  smoke screen to hide the fact that they suck. I love a game with original ideas (psi ops) BUT theyre some that just tries too hard and get on my nerves (katamari de-coochie or whatever = BAD GAME). Anyone remember parappa the rapper? HORRIBLE GAME!!!

oh and all mario games should die too, ever since yoshis island (the pinnacle) everything just went downhill from there. Although mario kart still keeps my interest.

Damn i mean come on, we need to see the 3rd part of halo (ye all know ye only hated it cos of the fact the ending sucked wink.gif ), Riddick, it's the best thing since GoldenEye, (in movie to game conversions), and i'd love to see a sequal.
Final Fantasy, come on each game has a great story line, and the 12th one looks like it's going to be the best.

Now the only games i'd like to see die from the top of my head are all EA sports games nuff said.

I agree... I'm all for $20 puzzle games, or $20 ports with improved graphics, or $20 sports games with new rosters... I think there needs to be MORE price points that accurately reflect the amount of content you're getting not just the age of the content.

I don't disagree.  I think my original comment was too much of a blanket statement.  I'd prefer to see a quality standard implemented as a means to weed out the trash.  I guess that goes against the free market ideal...  My issue with $20 games of which I have a few (Outlaw Golf 2 and Guilty Gear XX are brilliant), is that I can't distinguish garbage from quality.  Reviewers always take price into account and rate games higher than they deserve with the comment "The game sucks, but for $20, you get what you pay for."  That's the kind of thing I'd like to see abandoned.  Wishful thinking I suppose?

Are you nuts? I love every ESPN 2K5 sports game. They were all $20. NFL 2K5 made madden look like backyard football. NBA 2K5 plays much better than NBA Live. College Hoops 2K5 smashed march Madness. NHL 2K5 just seems more fun than EA's hockey game. I can't really say much for MLB 2K5 though, as I don't like baseball. I think all sports games should be no more than $20. i mean what are you really getting besides roster updates and minor tweaks.

I do feel that fighting games should be no more than $20. Don't get me wrong, I love Soul Calibur 1& 2 to death, but when do I ever play it single player..........................never.................most people don't.

As for games I feel should die on xbox.....................HALO. As a person that was playing FPS way back in the day, how can anyone think this game is great? You must be either young, only a console gamer, or just a fucking retard.

Deftones, I amended my statement.  See above your post.

I don't really like pro sports games (except WE8 and NHL) so I could care less what price bracket they fall in.
With the advent of online fighting, I don't mind dropping $50 on a fighting game if it's worth it... and DOA is really the only one I see that's worth it.

Dragon Ball Z should die

The James Bond games should die, but please EA build up on the 007: Everything or Nothing... That game was sick! So basically Just Third person shooter of James Bond...

Aha!

Serious Sam!!!

I must say this... Tony Hawk!!! I stopped playing Tony Hawk after the first one for Xbox, It was number 3 in the series I think...

Halo 3... Yes I want no Halo 4... C'mon Bungie, I bet they can make something else? like Gnop 2? hehe....

Jaws... the game isn't out yet, but it looks like crap enough for it not to have a sequel...

Basically 2 our of these games barely had any storyline...

Half-Life... (The first one) had a amazing storyline but motherfuker puzzles!!!

As for Halo... Awesome Storyline line, some good Muiltplayer, barely any puzzles... like you know? pushing crates in Half Life??? Not exactly my type of FPS...HALO was smooth...

I can't understand some people....

OK I understand that you like playing a game. I understand you wanting to play online everyone, becuase there are diffrent people everyday. But if I have to hear one more person say that Halo is the greatest game ever and have to hear them tell me that they just beat Halo on Ledgendary for the 28th time, I'm gonna kill some.

I just can't think how playing the same game over every day is fun. Once I beat a game, on any system I RARELY go back to it. Unless it is the multiplayer or any of the games I played when I was a kid, Like Mario, but still I don't play that every day.

Speaking of which... have you seen the KOF: Maniax game?  Ugh!  It looks like SNK tried to rape DOA with a Mai shaped dildo.

hahaha! That was funny!

But so true....

Another game I would love to remain in 2D is Castlevania.
I know Konami has released several 2D versions on the GBA but they are nothing compared to Symphony of the Night.
Konami's stab at the 3D realm with Lament of Innocence was very disappointing.
And now they're giving it another shot with Curse of Darkness.
These games will never compare to S.O.T.N. and are pretty much dead on arrival simply because they aren't in 2D.

I'm glad to see there's still some 2D fans around. I mean it's not that 2D is better than 3D, it's just that certain games play better in 2D.
We're gamers, and we are about good games, that's all.
Developers seem to think that 2D no longer sells, and this is why they all abandoned 2D. What a shame....
