I need to update my xbox but dont know how without getting on live. If i plug my xbox into the internet and go to update will i be banned? If so how can i update it?

Thanks for being vague. Let's see if I can help with the information you gave.
If you connect to LIVE, NO you won't be banned. MS Doesn't ban stock Xbox consoles.
Oh wait, maybe you have a modded console. No you won't be banned. Unless you are using FW that is detectable. Or, maybe you didn't rip and burn your back up game correctly, then yes, you could get banned.
Just a minute!! You JTAGed your console. YES of course you will get banned.
Please, when you have a question, ask it. Don't ask a fraction of a question and expect to get the answer you want. I may have been sarcastic, but I did answer three of the possible scenarios you could be in.
