Title: Can I Connect To The Internet After Flashing ?

Can i connect to the internet after flashing the xbox 360 ?
i mean i could
but is there is anything gonna happen   like (the 3 red lights)
because i read somewere that after the flashing  microsoft can spot your xbox 360 and turn it off
though am not playing xbox 360 live  i just want to update the console ?
so can i ?
