Title: Kinect Dash Update Question....
Post by: tryintomod on November 24, 2010, 05:01:00 PM
So i've updated my nand to the latest dash for kinect. I've been reading and some people are saying that you can do MS's update after you have the "hacked" dash uploaded to the box. I've noticed that when you try to play some games it says that it needs an update. Does this solve this problem or is there something else? Thanks for any help.

Make sure u have you rt63 removed or u6t1 bridged and u apply the ms update to get avatars and kinect working.

If U6T1 is installed does it matter whether you bridge the two points or remove rt63? Would it beneficial to do both or no? Is on "better" than the other? Just curious on this.

I believe bridging the point is preferred over removing. Can't give you a reason why, that's just what I've read.

As for your original question, once you run the System Update, all your games should run just fine and quit nagging for an update upon boot.

The reason for this is because even though the new 12611 image is in the NAND, it still needs some files on the HDD/internal memory to run certain dashboard features, like supporting/editing avatars for example.

One last question. This is the update that is needed:

http://support.xbox....dates.aspx#copy

It is called systemupdate12611.zip and is just shy of 100mb.

I always gound out the RT63 resistor but it should be fine even with the rt63 left alone. As long as you are already updated to the latest dash it shouldn't burn efuses. Using the MS update at this point doesn't do much other than copying the $systemupdate folder to memory so the box can utilize features that don't fit inside the nand. Even so, it is a good idea to have the rt63 grounded out or removed on all Jtag boxes.

Differences between Bridge or removal:

Bridging the RT63:
You are connecting the curcuit to a ground source and any power that goes through drops to Zero. Nothing ever makes it to the efuse.

Removal:
The rt63 ressistor is actually removed so any power that is sent can't make it to the efuse.

It is highly unlikely that removing the ressistor will cause damage but sending power that cant go anywhere can cause problems. For this reason, the bridge method is a better choice. It is also easier if you know what you are doing. You don't need to do both, just one or the other. Removal preferred for newbies becase it is not hard to verify it is removed. It can be hard for inexperienced people to solder the bridge correctly.

Something to note, is that if the kernel is updated, you can run Microsoft's System Update and it won't brick your JTAG.

It will see that the kernel is current, then just copy the necessary files to your storage device.

But this only works if you have the hacked kernel on the NAND, then run the System Update. Order is important.
