Title: What Is The Cause Of 3 Or 4 Red Light On Jtag ?
Post by: krizalid on May 08, 2010, 12:49:00 PM
My Falcon doesn't do this.
On the other hand, my zephyr does. But it's a glitch that hasn't been fixed.
For your Falcon, I suggest redoing your JTAG (briged and diodos) and shorten the wires, make sure they are also very thin wires, like ( I use network cable's insides ) and solder the diodos to the board and add a wire, don't wire-diode-wire.
That is all I that I can recommend.

all the time I was thinking which wire to use - thiner or not, and does it matter the lenght. ok, I will shorten them as now they are long enough and the wire I used is from network cable.. will see if it does effect.

It probably has a little bit to do with using a power strip as well. The JTAG hack goes through the GPU, so sometimes you'll get 3 red lights and error 0020 if you don't wait about 10 seconds between powering off and on again. Thin wires, diode directly on board, all good advice.

This is common on zephyrs and falcons. Just happens more often on zephyrs than falcons.

thanks. that's why I didn't notice it on using jasper jtag. is it worth to use 330 ohm resistor like in this picture, instead of wire ?
I also tried the "Alternate Jtag Hack" using the transistors and it still happens.
The 330 ohm and transistors do work better but the problem is still there.

This has nothing to do with the solder points. Rebooter hijacks the SPI bus for the front panel and messes with the lights. It's just inherent flaw of the JTAG hack. This happens cause the "normal" jtag isn't 100% reliable, due to analog components used. But it won't hurt your console. If it bothers you so much get a Cygnos chip.
