Title: How To Send Isos To Xbox Hdd?
Post by: Shafted! on February 02, 2003, 06:23:00 PM
Hey all,

I've been using PX Game loader to run my backup games off my xbox HDD. This is what i usually do:

- extract iso to temp dir on my computers hdd
- ftp to my xbox
- create a folder "PxGame_" in the folder "HDDLoader"

It works well for me, but it's getting annoying having to extract the content of the ISO to a temp dir. Is there any alternative to doing this?

Thanks,
Shafted!

Nope. The game has to be extracted.

If it weren't, once the game was started, how would it know were to find the files it requires to run?  wink.gif

I think he's wondering about a program that will take the iso and upload the files to the xbox.

This way you can bypass the extra step of extracting the files on the computer first.

What a convenient time to ask :)

XBox Game Manager 1.5

New in 1.5:
- Now supports on-the-fly extraction of iso files from local drive to xbox

Nice feature, good job!

Having trouble using it myself. It works well for E drive but on my 40 gig F drive full of games and the tens of thousands of files that come with them it doesn't seem to be able to handle it. Too many files I guess, both the program and xbox freeze. Perhaps if you add a button or an option so you can disable the game dir size view on xbox, perhaps make an additional button for each game so one could do it for one folder at a time?

Thanks for great program and considdering smile.gif

Hmm.. I've heard people saying updates are rather slow on big drives.  Haven't heard of crashes though.

Anyway, I'll put out a release with some sort of remedy.

It will likely be a few weeks though.

* Supports on-the-fly extraction of iso files from local drive to xbox * Supports multiple game copy / deletion in one command

Yes, that is what i'm talking about! I've yet to try it (already sent all my backups to my xbox), but this is great (and what i was talking about)!

thanks.

Hey... Nice feature!

Working on a similar application myself, as the other ISO applications lacked this very
feature at the time I was searching for it.

My project has some features XBGMan i missing though as I was trying to incorporate
some of the other PC/Xbox utilities into it.

Anyway, inventing the wheel all over again is pretty st00pid, so, I'll leave the decision
to the common users, i.e. you.

Is there any need for another xISO 'on-the-fly' extraction app?

If not, then I will put my project aside.

XGman, nice app - however I've had some issues with it.

1) I've had trouble with at least one ISO (I've only used it to move 2 ISO's over so far) where it gave me an error message stating it couldnt copy the file over. Extracted with XISO and FTP = no problem. There was lots of space on the drive, and my temp file area as well.

2) After moving a ~3GB ISO across (second attempt), it would not refresh properly. It automatically updates, but the progress stuck in the middle and the new folder did not show. Hit update button, but nothing seemed to happen. Killed the prog and re-ran it, seemed to be fine.

3) Slooooow for updating typically. And it seems to move a large amount of data when updating (according to my bandwidth meter). I have a 110GB partition with ~20GB worth of stuff.

Other than that, it seems fine. Good job! smile.gif

Oh and by the way, just a cosmetic thing - if you do an "About", it says version 1.25!  ph34r.gif

Thanks for the report.

Okay (minus the iso) your issues are related to updates.  The next release should fix that issue.  I wish I had a large drive to test on myself.

Thanks for the about info :)

Back to the iso issue.. can you tell me what the error message is exactly?  I think I know what the problem is..

Please email me at xbgman(at)hotmail.com with your response

Hey, I just got this program and tried to send 2 iso's to my xbox HD.  When I opened boxplorer on the xbox it showed that the whole .iso file had transfered and didn't extract them.  Is there something I did wrong?  How do I extract 'on the fly'?

Do I have to use an extraction program(xISO 1.1) and then copy the files with this program (Xbox Game Manager 1.5) while the files are extracting from the extraction program?  Because that's not technically on-the-fly, it's multi-tasking.

Ah.. no.. that's not supposed to happen :)

Yes it is supposed to be on-the-fly.

Please email me at xbgman(at)hotmail.com with the full iso file names and any error messages you might get.  Also try downloading 1.55 from http://archon.cs.unm.edu/xgman/  and see if that helps any.

I just realized that xgman looks for ".iso" at the end of the file.. not ".Iso" or any other captilization.. I need to fix that, but that could be the problem.

This happened to me as well, i think the program was sending the entire iso rather than decompressing it.

I've been unable to get it (on the fly iso xfer) to work, but aside from that fact, the program is pretty nice.

Well.. My app made it to the frontpage of Xbox-Scene... (xISO xFER v0.1b)

Feel free to download it and try it out.

Any suggestions, bugs or anything like that, contact me by using the
e-mail adress provided in the readme.txt in the archive.

I have successfully tested it, both local mode and xFER mode.

why don't you try XBCopy?  You pop the disc in, run the program, tell it which directory to copy to, and voila.  And if you have EvoX configured correctly that's all you have to do.

Sorry Zamboni, but I deleted the ISO already, so I cant replicate the error. For what it's worth, it's the NBA2K3 ISO (in case you or someone else who wants to test this may have it). I havent had this error again, but I've only transferred one more in the meantime, which had no problems. FWIW, it will not autoupdate properly (hangs in the middle), but if I hit the update button again, it seems to do it properly (just takes a while, which is why I thought it hung).

Oh, I forgot to mention (sorry guys, but it would have solved some of your problems), but if your ISO file has any other extension other than ".iso" (all lower case), the program will just throw the whole ISO across (ie. it will not decompress the ISO). Zamboni, I think you already realized this, so this is just a confirmation.

Jiggy.

ps. Maybe you could put an option in to automatically call the directory "PxGameX" (where X is the next number) so it's automatically manageable by PxHDDLoader? It's not a big deal, but what the hey...
