Step one: Take it out
Step two: Throw it in the front or back yard
Step three: Load your favorite weapon
Step four: Take steady aim and... FIRE....
OK, well you can try cleaning the lense and mirror on the dvd, but more than likely its not going to remedy the situation much, these drives suck and they go bad, its just a matter of a fact. If that doesnt work you can try pot tweaking it, and if that doesnt work and you want to go through the hassle of buying a new laser for it, and installing it, you can do that or you can follow my instructions above and hunt down a new dvd drive.
If you need tuturials on how to do any of this, let me know and i will point you in the right direction. |
I would just call 18004MYXBOX. That's what I'm doing right now because my Thompson drive sucks also
how much do they charge you to replacce it at 18004myxbox?
thanks
I just found out that my box's warrenty had expired
They'll fix it, but for $75.00 plus $10-$15 for shipping. I'm thinking of just returning mine at Gamestop for one with a better drive.
good question...im not sure. that sounds little pricey because on ebay u can get a drive, thompson, but new for like 25 bucks...if it lasts long enough thats fine for me. how long does it take them to return your xbox? My drive still reads games and movies, just bugs out over some period of time, usually half an hour. they should do this for free, like Sony.
thanks

Good Point. Yes they should
are you using a different type of media than you use to? certain types of discs will boot in mine but then show the dirty or damaged screen. if i copy one of those discs on my pc to a different type of dvd-r they boot fine
personally, I am trying to use the exact discs that have worked perfectly before this week. Now this week, none of my discs work.
do u think this would work for me?
go to walmart, buy an xbox. open it up and swap my dvd drive with the one i just bought and then close it all up and return it?
or is that TOO risky?
thanks
yeh it might be a good idea. but the thing is u have to be careful when u swap because you want to insure that you dont mess up the other xbox while ure swapping, because you have to return it. they might not even take back an opened xbox, they might just give u an exchange for another one.
ill call xbox today and find out some more information
thanks
anyone know the thread i'm trying to find which is one massife list of all the disks that do work and dont work with the thompson drive. I saw it once but cant find it again. Supposedly thats why some disks come up with the dirty sisk error on a game back up because of the type of disk e.g datawrite
