Title: Best Stable Bios ?
Post by: holidaychef on December 01, 2005, 07:48:00 PM
been out of the scene for a-bit ,useing a x2.3b lite+ with a 4981.06 bios.(ver. 1.1 box). the chip fell apart so i upgraded to a x2.6 CE w/ a xapt3r so i dont have to solder. is their a newer (STABLE) bios that someone would recomend upgrading to?

X2 5032 is great, make sure you put the included .INI on the root of the E drive and that you DON'T use the _16plus version since that is for 1.6 Xbox's ONLY. This bios is not much different from 4981 it just has more bells and whistles, and this 5032 bios is 512KB btw.

I personally still recommend x2 4981 wink.gif

It's rock solid stable.. and doesn't have x2 config live like 5032/5035 does.

...and, to me anyways, that's a good thing. I hate the "X2 config live loading...." screen that you get with the newer x2 bioses. Plus, I only ever set my bioses up once and once I do that I never touch em. Thus, the added boot time due to the bios needing to wait for the hdd to spin up to read the .ini in addition to the (IMO anyways) annoying loading screen negates any benefits it provides.

...and by that same logic, I recommend a customized version of m8plus_16 with live blocking, igr, and lba48 support for 1.6/1.6b xboxen.

Agree.
This is my favorite bios release ever for the Xbox (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) . You can't go wrong.

pity that ind-bios never completely finsished/fixed there bios as i still think there the best ..
if they get there most recent one 1.6 enable.. and the clock fix part finished then that would easiy be the  best !!!

as its 256k, its also got a ini file but unlike teh x2 bios u can 'inject' this into the bios itself, so no 'bios is loading screen' !!! (u can have it the same as x2.. but as the man above me say, once ya set it up and played about u dont ever change the settings again ! .. so i think ind-bios is the perfect bios ..
its not not available to 1.6 sad.gif

Yeah i kinda thought it was wasting time too until i tested it...
*copy and paste of my post from another topic*

While it might not be the most attractive screen during the boot process it isnt that bad for having an up-to-date BIOS. I've tested X2 5035 and X2 4981 to see how long the boot takes and found with the flubber off and regardless of whether the X logo was on or off it is 10 seconds.  With 4981 its 7 sec of X logo the the “MS“ logo for 3 and then XBMC is loading. With 5035 its 7 sec of “loading live config...” then 1 sec of X logo before the “MS“ logo loads in under it and 2 sec later XBMC is loading.

Maybe 4981 is looking on E for the “ x2_IGR_disabled” file?

I can't really try the iND because i formatted my drive with 5035 and iND sees G as empty or if i inject it with a config it wont see my HDD altogether, even before i upgraded the stock HDD.

It wont let me edit  my post...

*Updated test* M8plus appears to boot identically to the X2 4981... so really as far as boot time is concerned you are just picking what to stare at (black screen, text, logos and any combo there of)  for the required and inescapable 10 second boot time. so yeah pick whatever you want, i'm just saying what i found.

Hi,

Which program can i use for X2 4981 Bios to add/replace the "Xecuter" or "MS" Logo?

I know you can use XBTool for customizing Colors/Fan Speed and so on, but which program do i use for
replacing the "Xecuter" or "MS" Logo below the "X" at Boot-up?

Which Format has the image to be? .JPG .BMP ? Which Resolution?

Thanks in advance.

I have to agree with appleguru.  X2 4981 has the minimun amount of  "flair",  and is perfectly stable.  No bullshit, it just does its job.  What more does one need?  Sure when xecuter came out with their 5000 series bioses, I tried em all, and even thought it was pretty cool, but still went back to 4981 after the excitement was over.  When it comes right down to it... you just need it to work, 4981 does exactly that.

no it isnt..it reverts to default settings if no ini is found. it can be edited via the ini file, and needs to be patched for bigger hdds (use x2ool or x2 config maker to both patch the bios and make the ini)

What is missing from ind-bios 5003, other than issues with 1.6 boxes? I have no clock issues with 5003 on my chip, if the box is unplugged for long enough to lose the time, then UnleashX prompts me to set the clock next time I start up - no problems. (if it has a network connection it autosets it via NTP, even).

well if u dont have problems with your current bios then the general saying is... "if it aint broke, dont fix it" ... but if u really want to upgrade then i would recommend using X2.5032 bios as thats pretty stable i been using it for months now and it's been pretty good no issues at all.
