Well, my 1.6 xbox never freezes whilst playing games.. I've used a variety of bioses on it, from m8_16 (stock and various customized versions), to Yoshi's BIOS, to m8+_16, and finally to a customized version of metoo m8+_16 w/ live blocking, the eject fix, LBA48, IGR, no ani, etc.

I see, so it might be the chip thats messing up. ITs an Aladdin XT

What BIOS are you running? On the XT, be sure to run m8_16 (not m8+_16)... Also, once the xbox loads the BIOS from the chip, it's not really doing anything, so I doubt it's the chip... it could be a heat issue... or faulty memory, or something... tongue.gif

I can't get 2 minutes into a game ( from the HDD or Disk copy or original)  before it freezes up!! I can play games from the TSOP or the MS bios and dash with no problems. I'm using a 1.6 with an Xenium 2.0.1 and I've tried multiple bios and dash combos, I was thinking there might be a certain combo that would work.   I never know if I can trust the name of the bios cause they all seem liked there hacked before I get em. I'll list what I have though,   evo-x_m8_16_bios.bin \ EvoXM8.06_16_fc_noani.bin \  m8_16.bin \   m8_16_LBA48.bin. Is evox m8_16 the only bios that works with the 1.6 xbox???  BTW If anyone can tell me what any of that means or what kind I have that would be great. I have no idea what all those little codes mean :( I tried to use evtool but it didn't seem to know either. I just wanna play my games from the harddrive so I don't have to worry about them getting scratched. One more thing Here is a list of the games so far  Halo 2 \ THUG 2 \ and a couple of demo disks.  for now I would be glad to just get these going. I've noticed that XBMC will freeze up from time to time if it's on for a while so it led me to believe that  was a heat issue. Has anybody looked into that  maybe a fan mod could fix it?  Hmm anyway If anyone has a clue as to what's going on I'm sure you would make alot of 1.6 owners really happy.

except probably holding the lframe signal from the mcpx low. :/

Grrr, really? Damn cheap modchips... cool.gif

(now that you mention it you're probablly right; the Aladdins likely pull LFRAME to ground when booted... and keep it there sad.gif )

@ Dreamachine: Your Xenium however *does not* do this, and only uses LFRAME to load the chip; it actually communicates over LFRAME and doesn't just ground it like most chips...

I'd give m8plus_16 a shot wink.gif Sounds like you may have a 1.6b xbox. (m8_plus is the newer version of m8; DO NOT use it on the Aladdin Advance XTs as they will not boot; m8plus_16 will work fine on your xenium however, and if you want live blocking, you can even use the metoo edition of m8plus_16 (In the 1.4.1 release of metoo).

Hopefully it wont freeze. But what i dont get some games freeze some dont.

Very Strange..

Well, you could try deleting the files in E:\CACHE...

This usually only affects people who used the Xenium's HDD upgrade wizard to upgrade their HDDs (A very nice feature of XOS2 I may add wink.gif), and usually freezes live enabled games at their startup/loading screens...

That goes for Dreamachine too; delete the files in E:\CACHE.

..And Dreamachine, you can set the fanspeed in XBMC.. Be sure to get the latest release of XBMC...

Hmm..... yeah I tried  that but when you start a game the fan slows back down again?
I just found that I've got a 1.6b identified by the hynix memory. Is there a cure for this yet? I read someting about a Yoshihiro M8_16b memory fix but have had no luck finding it:(

Yeah, XBMC's fanspeed setting is for XBMC only; change the speed in your BIOS to change ti while running games (Use evtool to do this).

You want m8plus_16 on your 1.6b xbox; get it in the usual places (#xbins).

I just did a mod for someone on a 1.6 and did not pay attention to the Ram too see if this console was a 1.6b (hynix). I used a 2.2pro and flashed it with M8 1.6 256k on bank 2, because I wanted lba 48 support with evtool. I didn't test the console thoroughly game-wise before it left, as I was able to FTP to it and XBMC ran for a while and didn't have issue. The person calls my friend who set it up and says the Tiger Woods 2005 and Halo2 freeze consistently.

Heinrich mentioned in this thread it may be an lframe problem. I am starting to wonder if that is the case. Did any of you guys grind the lframe trace off the board for permanent mod or add the 680Resistor to the lframe trace on your mb's? I have to resolve this sh*t in a hurry, the box will be back in my hands tommorow, so a pre-game huddle would be great. Please reccomend a good bios for 1.6 or 1.6b and lba 48. You guys rule, TIA.

Well I have been going thru the same issue as all of you also.  Although the issue that the 1.6 I modded seems to be with heat.  The box would run for about an hour or more and then start freezing.  I did a fan mod and hope that fixes the issue.

Although something is up with Ghost Recon 2,  cause it says there is an issue with the xbox and asks you to restart the xbox.  So I am not sure how to fix that issue.  GR2 seems to run fine on all versions other then the 1.6, when running the game on the Hard drive.  Any ideas?
BTW I did patch the xbe files already.

How do you tell if you have a version 1.6b?

Thanks.  Hope the idea of a fan mod helps.  I know others have said it.  I will post back if it clears up the issue.

Just following up for others that have this problem.

EVTool 1.0.9 LBA 48 patch
M8 Plus 1.6

Im betting that half of you are probably having hd problems.  Specifically power to the hd.  Next time your box freezes, go listen to see if you hear your hd whirring.  Take the lid off and play until it freezes and listen.

Try Yoshihiro's M8 beta4 BIOS.. I've found I have to use it on most of the v1.6's I do.

Easy way to test if the box isn't working.  Turn it on, off, on, off, etc, etc..  I've found if the box is going to fail, it'll start black screening after the first shot, sometimes second.  Some 1.6's work fine with M8+ (preflashed on the chips), but most need Yoshi's to work fine.

Hey everyone,

I have a similar problem to some of the above posts.  Here are the xbox details:

V1.6 - samsung ram
160gb seagate
DuoX2
M8plus_16 - EVtool lba48, ef, 40% fan

The xbox will start and run fine with the chip enabled and disabled for about half an hour.  At this point the xbox hangs, the video is still on and has sound, except the sound is just a constant tone (if that makes sense), there is no responce from the controller.  When the xbox is turned off and on again it doesn't get past the flubber screen.

This has happened with chip enabled and disabled.

I thought that it may be a heat issue so I increased the fan speed and tested it with the DVD-Rom and HDD outside the xbox (and without the top on) and the problems still occurs.

I have also redone the wiring for the LPC rebuild and tried another chip (another duoX2).

I have just been playing it with the chip disabled and it has jumped to an earlier part of the game on a couple of occasions.

I am about to try it with the chip removed completely. and then with the yoshi M8 beta4 BIOS. Although I don't think that it is a bios problem as it boots fine and there are also problems with the chip disabled.

Has anyone else had similar problems that they have been able to fix?
Any suggestion would be great.

So this only hangs while playing the M$ bios? or the Evox Bios?
Title: Does Your XboX Freeze During Gameplay?
Post by: davemk on January 18, 2005, 02:43:00 PM
It hangs on both....

I have removed the chip completely and the pin header and lpc rebuild and am still having problems.

I will  put the standard hdd in today and try.

I am starting to think that it is a faulty board...

what worked for me was to use evtool 1.08 change my m8_16 bios size from 256k to 512k. It fixed my freezing issues-games that froze from the hdd and off the disc now work perfectly (using xenium ice btw)

Problem:
Run game from DVD, the intro freezes/starts/freezes/starts...and eventually completes.  No freezing issues during game play back.

Observations:
Original DVD playback is ok
Run game from HDD is ok
Doesn't matter which bios I use (I have the 3 available)

So does this appear to be a DVD burning issue???  It's like the box can't read the data fast enough and the buffer runs out...
I've cleared X/Y/Z and cache dirs.  My clock is also set correctly.

I'm using the following tools/media:
Craxtion 4 to rip DVD and create ISO
Nero 6.6 to burn DVD
I'm using Memorex 4x DVD's

Mine was freezing in games to, so i have now unplugged my duox2 (kept the lpc and pinheader there) and games still freeze.
So it now freezes with no chip and stock hdd locked. are you people sure its a bios issue not a ram/mb issue?

Cheers sirs

I have modded a friends crystal xbox (v1.6 Samsung memory) with a Duo-X2. Bios booted successfuly and loaded Evox dash +3935. Everything seemed to be OK so I gave it back to him.
He later phoned me to say games are freezing with mod enabled/disabled.
I took it back and rebuilt the mod....still freezing....thought it might be a heat issue but the MCPX and CPU temps are fine.
I flashed the bios with Evox M8_16 and M8+_16 but still same problem.
I then replaced the DUO-X2 chip with another one...still same problem.
It also freezes in M$ dash especially when setting the time and in XBMC(V1.1) when navigating the menus.....even after a minute of being switched on.
