Title: Factory Broken Xbox Key Extraction
Post by: thorro on July 15, 2009, 04:32:00 AM
Just bought a brand new Xbox 360 Elite Liteon from a customer. He bought it new, drive wouldn't eject, so he opened the box, warranty void.

I took a look, DVD drive warranty sticker was untouched. I took out the DVD mainboard and transplanted it into brand new liteon drive. Still same symptoms (nothing moves at all, no eject). So, the failure is 100% in the DVD board.

Any ideas on what else can I do to get the key? Transplant the MT1319L chip to a healthy board and hope the chip is OK and still contains the serial? Any other ideas?

Yes sounds like ether the drive is dead from factory or someone erased the firmware from it.

Yes, since the DVD sticker was untouched, drive must be dead from factory.

I hope the problem is not with the firmware on chip and the key is still inside it and some other component is broken.

Erase is done over SATA. You dont have to open the case to do that. So its easily possible that the customer erased it himself.
