Do you mind if I ask what country/region you're from? I recently got a unit back from repair last week and it did have an A0A2 drive, but it was 74850c, and the keys extracted no problem. I'm in Canada.

I'm guessing we're going to start seeing a lot of these new LiteOns when the current stock depletes. It would be nice if this, or another thread could be dedicated to reporting seeing this new drive, and where it was seen.

Can you try the other points on the board
http://xbox-experts.com/e/pics/liteonalt1.jpg

According to that german forum some users managed to get it flashed using them. But there is no official word. Worth a try.

@ghaladream:  83850c and 74850c technically are different drives. Both now have an A0A2 revision.

that is totally not true the points you have indicated are the same points that a 74850c would use , and totally useless to you have 83850c , sorry but you cannot give pll false hope.

I have no firm repair date on the back its still the original shell from 2006.

I also have another one in for repair at the moment I have its key backedup
and will play around with it once I get it back. Hopefully the key on the
mainboard remains unchanged.

The key is always new to go along with the replaced MB and new DVD-ROM.

I said that there was no official word. Just because you have not had any luck does not mean that information should be disregarded. Still worth a try IMO.

Wont they need to decap two chips to read each fw and compare to find the fw location?

the fact that using either r707 or alternative point for the spear does not flash blue light concerns me.
It might suggest Microsoft has done something to 'Block' the drive from giving out the key the normal way.

I hope we dont have to melt that white gluy thing in order to read the key

not all the time, ive got an arcade thats sitting here, that came back with a new motherboard, and the same benq drive that it had when i reported the 3RRoD, still got the man. date on the back, and the same serial it went away with.

same with my elite that went and came back a few weeks ago, that came back with a new liteon drive(it was a benq, originally), and a new motherboard, and fans.
still got its original serial, and man.date. on the sticker.

and that went away 2 weeks ago this friday, and was redelivered on monday past..
just glad they never stuck the new drive revision in. biggrin.gif

Actually you are probably quite right, I have only ever sent in old Xenon Cores and Pros and they always come back different, I never have sent in anything newer.

My experience in US with 20+ consoles of all models is that you always get back a different DVD-ROM with a new key. About 80% of the time they come back with a new Liteon. The rest are BenQs with manufacture dates 2007-2008.  Presumably the BenQs are unused from inventory. I have not seen a Liteon 83850c on a refurb yet.

I got the 83850C flashed fine, using the CK3 Probe and the normal method.  I did have to put in the serials myself but everything else worked fine, and the Xbox works fine also.  Tested it on Red Faction: Guerilla (Wave 3) and it works perfectly.  Use JungleFlasher and the Probe and you should be all set.  You will have to man up a little to wipe out your drive with all the warnings and errors about the dummy file and bad serial data, but it flashed fine for me (almost had a heart attack with all those errors and I still flashed it (very, VERY hesitant)).  Give it a shot, and remember to dump the key a few times and double/tripple check your serials.  If you want the log, it's here: http://www.peaseenterprises.com/jf.log

They have put the newer FW lid on your drive, I just looked though your log and your FW version is 74850C

There is no possible way you could have the 83850c because the liteon IX is based on the 74850C FW so you would have gotten E66 if you really did have 83850c

Also, you would not have been able to get your key by normal methods in the 1st place.

Any reason they would have put the newer cover on the older drive?  This drive just came back from repair with everything new, all they did was replace the top part of the case on the 360 with the existing one, I guess they did some magic for the Lite-On also.  The strange thing is that the key is the same as the old one, before it went into repair, but it was a Samsung when it went in.  This must mean that they changed (or added) the old key into this new MoBo (I have pictures of the board of when I modded it as a Samsung.  Why would they go through all this trouble to replace the keys?  And why would they take it without a warrenty sticker?  Was it just my lucky day when one of there workers got laid off or something?  And the console was built in 2005, was past the warrenty.  There up to something down there.

Well its well known that they change the motherboard keys in the new motherboards and replace the drives with liteons these days.

Maybe someone made a mistake and put the wrong lid or the 74850c based FW in a case destined to have 83850c, thats all I can think of smile.gif

Yeah, Microsoft is not a company to care for there work in the entertainment category that much.  And aperently they don't care about Win7 to much either because it was cracked with a leaked key the first day it came out for the RTM ph34r.gif .  Me being a software publisher, it's pretty embarasing for them that they can't controll their own software even BEFORE it comes out laugh.gif .
