this tutorial. Especially important is the "No freezing" part, of course (that's steps 6.1-3). You have to disable your old driver, rename it, then copy the new driver in, and finally rename the new one to the old name. Just follow the guide.
If you have any more problems with freezing, try powering up the drive with a second PC, while using the first PC for the SATA connection. Of course, you'd need to borrow a desktop PC from someone, but it guarantees you won't have to worry about any freezing issues.
