Trying to update a hitachi 79 from 1.4 to 1.51 using Jungle Flasher. I can get the drive in mode b but everytime I try to use the 79 unlock disk it says failed to pause etc in the little screen at the bottom. I've tried burning a new disk, tried using Port IO and Win API but it just wont unlock. I've already updated 2 Benq's without the slightest problem so can't understand what's happening. All I want to do is get the Firmware dumped and then I'm sure I'll get it going somehow possibly with firmware toolbox which is how I put the 1.4 on it the first place. Any suggestions would be gretaly appreciated.
What do you mean by it won't unlock? Do you mean you have tried to get the firmware in FirmWare Toolbox and it won't work (says to insert a DVD movie etc) or do you mean when you type "79unlock X" where X is the drive letter you get an error and NOT "done!"
I had this problem yesterday. It turns out it doesn't have to say "done!" to mean it's successful. For me instead of getting a "done!" message I got an error which said "CreateFile() failed 1117". Depending on your SATA chipset, you may get a done! reply or an error.
I was able to dump my f/w fine with getting that error (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif).

I've now got xp on my pc and jungleflasher still doesnt work. I tried firmware toolbox and everything has went to plan until I have to open the command prompt on the 79 unlock folder and I get an error saying "79unlock is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file". I tried to dump the drive anyway cos it says in podgers tutorial it may give an error depending on chipsest but still no luck.
I really give up now, all I want to do is dump the firmware ffs.
have drive working in windows thro mode b
insert unlock cd
play audio once
play then pause quickly
EJECT WITH KIT OR BOX NOT WINDOWS ,REMOVE CD
open dos 79unlock folder
type 79unlock f (where f is the drive shown in windows)
says done
open firmware toolbox
direct dump
insert retail dvd
close
select raw dump
save as
