Title: How To Flash A Drive With A Sata Hdd Laptop
Post by: gman112287 on March 03, 2009, 10:33:00 PM
I was wondering if anyone knew how to flash a samsung drive with a sata hdd laptop. I currently have firmware 1.5. I have been sending it to a friend to flash for me but i want to learn how to do it myself. Can the drive be flashed through a laptop?

my drive is a (toshiba samsung) TS - H943A FW - ms25
version A February 2006

My hdd is a fujitsu 20 gb sata. came with the 360.

Hope someone can help...  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Yes they can if the chipset is supported, i did it to mine but ih ad to make a sata coupler( took 2 bad drives, soldered the data leads together... Or you can get a Male to female sata cable. Laptop HDD connectors are reverse from normal drives have male hard drive to male motherboard. in a laptops case its male harddrive to female motherboard.... So the connector for a laptop needs to be Male to female. This can be obtained multiple ways. like i said making a coupler. or ordering this cable(http://www.cooldrives.com/sacaexsa7sic.html) or ordering from your favorite site that has them. Good luck and may the h@x be with you!

You can use Iprep. Make the boot USB key. set that to the side... You will have to pull your hard drive from your case(should be 2 screws underneath. look for a  3 disk picture thats like extended upwards, normally thats your disk drive) then you plug the sata cable(male end) into your motherboard(female connector) and your sata cable (female end) into your xbox 360 DVD drive. Since most laptops dont have 2 bays(2 places for hard drives) you probably wont be able to do this from windows unless you do have 2 bays. So just beware. Print off the tutorials or have a second computer up to read off and do the work. Hope this answered your question oh....

And no.. No Sata to USB connector will work. its not built for flashing and the universal serial bus drivers are not made to do such things. maybe if a modifed USB driver was made in the future. but being that it would be mostly a waste of time.... someone wouldnt take the time to make it.  It has to hook to your supported motherboard directly. Nice thought though.. i tried it and was torqued when it didnt, then i found out its the drivers fault... lame huh?

Please re read the post. I edited it after you posted(the newegg sata to ide is a no go)
The USB key will boot you into true DOS and you will do it from there. no need for windows(some people like doing it from windows... ive found that it doesnt work as well especially with viral infections... lol)You turn your computer on but it starts dos from your USB key meaning that your hard drive which contains your Operating sysetm(vista or XP) is replaced by good old windows 98 dos.

oh and.. when flashing. since your going to a 5.x and up firmware(any of the IXtreme's have this) you will have firmgaurd on, so dont freak the hell out when it seems like its locked out.. you didnt brick it you have to unlock the drive.... Go to Xbins, download firmware 3.3 and open and burn the 0800 unlock ISO(or img... whatever) to a single layer dvd and place that into your drive to be able to reflash....

To use a USB jump drive boot key you have to get into your bios(most computers are f2 or del at start) and change boot priority from 1. cdrom 2. hdd 3. removable devices(or whatever it says for USB's
and put USB before the HDD so like ..... 1 cdrom 2 removable devices 3 hdd.......

Make sure when you download iprep that you download the Definitions otherwise you will get in import error when using the program, they are on xbins. should be right next to the IXtreme 1.5 firmware... should say something like Ixtreme 1.5 Def.... yada yada

And for your tutorial.. you dont need to use this... its good to read and read posts as it will allow you understand more

This is correct tutorial to use straight from team executer

Ive noticed that dosflash does have problems with certain boards.. which is lame(by boards i mean chipsets on your mobo) Things that work in dosflash 16 sometimes dont work in dosflash 32... and vice versa... i thought it would be same across the board.. but i guess not

chances of flashing your drive with a sata hdd labtop are 0%
how will you flash a drive with a hdd in the first place?

even if you could get the dvd drive from the 360 to connect to the labtop, it'll not work anyway..

only successtory i know of with a labtop, is with a PCMCIA Serial ATA Card with via 6421 chipset.. so chase one of those then you might be able to flash a 360 drive with it

armof1ne are you pulling a prank on him I don't understand  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Apparently you have never done it...lol... I flashed mine with a ICH8M Laptop Chipset. I have sata so i made a little coupler connector as stated above. For you to state something without knownledge of it is pretty dumb indeed.  like i said TAKE OUT THE HARD DRIVE AND USE THE Sata connectors in place of the hard drive. Thats why he needs a female to male cord or a coupler becuase the laptop mobo has a female connector. Pull your hard drive from a laptop with sata and look for yourself. My MS25 works great. im playing halo wars right now(god its a great game... get it) and it is a backup of the original.... I am running IXtreme firmware 1.5.
I was lucky enough to have the ICH8M becuase most intel boards do not support flashing like this(only via's) ICH8 is the only one that i know that works from intel. Thats why i stated what is your chipset in the beginning.
Chipset is the only thing at this point that matters. if he doesnt have a compatible chipset he cant do it. if he does all he needs to do is plug in that male to female and it works......

P.S.  Just in case someone is wondering... he will not have an operating system since duh.... no hard drive. That is why the USB key is needed. Once that was made... remove hard drive and read..... plug back in your hard drive. test to see if your key is correct and not a "00000000 bs key" in windows, shut down, unplug hard drive. plug in 360 drive flash and you are done... As stated he will need to unlock possibly using the 0800 Unlock dvd.... Burn that and have it on standby

okay so where do i go from here?

I still don't understand how to flash a sammy 493 ms 25 from a laptop.

Do i need an pcmcia 6421 chipset esata card ( I have one lined up. im just waiting on the word)? Can i do it another way?

Is there an easier way than another?

this is all so overwhelming...  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Read... i cannot explain it any simpler...... You dont need the PCMCIA like i said. Read what i wrote that guy didnt know squat what he is talking about. Read the tutorials i setup. I said you need to use your SATA connection on your motherboard for the last time...... You do not need a PCMCIA and 90% of the time it wont function becuase of the PCMCIA drivers. He was trying to screw you. If you dont know how to do it read the tutorials there  in the stickied section. i have helped you all i can. If your not going to listen to what i posted than this is apparently a waste of time
