Title: Weird Lite On Behaviour
Post by: theo225 on February 11, 2009, 12:38:00 AM
After running into countless problems I was finally able to flash my lite on. It played my backups so I was happy. I reinserted my Gears of War (original) and turned off the 360. When I turn on the 360 it says instead of play game, play dvd and when you hit that it will play the "insert this disc into a xbox 360..." I open my tray and close it again and it detects the game fine. I tried the same with Call of Duty 4 (original) and the behavior was the same. What could be causing this? Is this normal? (I don't think so thou). Trying this out with my Dead Space backup it didn't happened. It seems this only happens with originals...

just so you know you are not alone , i have the same problem , its not a major issue as far as im concerned as you say opening and closing the drive usually sorts it , backups run flawlessly , but my original burnout revenge quite often throws up the "to play this game blah blah blah" , i have the game installed onto hard drive as well,it doesnt do it all the time either , sometimes on powerup with disc in the drive , it wont detect it as a game , it sees it as a dvd , other times its fine , but i can live with it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I've flashed upwards of 10 Lite-on units, none have done this, not even once.

I confirm. I flashed and reflashed my Liteon (to fix serial data later) recently and tested original DOA3 and I have no such symptoms. I ran the game, played a bit, turned the console off, turned it back on, it says Play Dead or Alive 3 as usual, tried again, everything works fine.

hmmm, i still have all my files and the lite_cfw.bin
i extracted the files and created the lite_cfw.bin with jungleflasher .43
while erasing the drive in jf the pc freezed and the drive got "bricked", i had to start dos run L-O-Eras and dosflash to flash the drive. could this possibly had something to do with it??

doubt it, i always read in xp, create the flash in xp, then erase and flash in dos,
never a problem.

Reflash it and if it keeps doing that then just live with it.

I reflashed my drive like two more times. Now if I first insert and original game it will say play dvd, I open the tray and close it again and the drive will say play game. Like always backups are flawless. I flashed two more liteon from friends and theirs are running without any of my problems. I did the same. extracted keys and created the cfw with jungleflasher and flashed their drives in DOS. The only thing that went different is that I bricked my drive in the process but I was able to recover it because I already had my keys and cfw ready. I wonder what could be causing this behaviour

I doubt it's an issue with the flash, it's probably got more to do with the hardware of the drive, eg laser and where the laser stop's. The best way to find out is by swaping the drive pcb's about (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
I wonder if it could make the liteon more detectable (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

My friend's LiteOn does the same thing. It is a refurbished system, with a March 2006 MFR date, and a LiteOn drive. Backups boot 100% of the time, originals need to be inserted 2-3 times to boot. Never had any "bad serial data" issues.

I bought a liteon drive through ebay just to do some tests and its always good to have a spare drive =)
My friend kinda sliped with my drive but it wasnt that hard, still it could be that. So now i have to play the waiting game and then run a few tests. I will post my results in this thread. =]
