This sounds very good indeed. I may finally have a use for all these boxes of Liteon drives I have laying around.

was wondering how well these new liteon drives will perform compared to what we all use at the moment, sammys and hitachi's etc. will be great to use one of those liteon drives that i ended up with a bunch of.

This is awesome for people 'stuck' with Lite-Ons!

I don't like the parts about enhanced FirmGuard and better Bad Angle support, makes it seem like our current FW is unsafe  unsure.gif

Not to worry though, I have money ready for a new 360 in case mine gets banned  tongue.gif

I would expect it to perform much like the BenQ since they are closely related hardware wise.

Great, I knew a place selling old falcons from 0735 but I resisted the temptation to buy (stock up) another one. Now if only LiteOn's are hacked I can happily pick up a Jasper and hack that  biggrin.gif

one can hope, but i have my doubts.

no one else has commented on it, but my personal predictions are that with this drive being so similar to the benq, any chipset that can flash a benq will be able to flash this, and any drive that can't, won't be able to.

granted, when i say this, i do mean easily. i seem to remember it being possible to flash benq's with the ich8 chipset, but it was more work than simply doing all software solutions.

This is awesome, my 4th 360 burned out a few months ago (video just disappeared, no rrod) and i went to buy a new one simply to be cursing at the screen when I found out its unflashable. The only good thing about the new Jasper is the 65nm chip, it runs MUCH cooler and for anyone who hasn't noticed, the power supply brick is a pound lighter since now it's only 175W compared to original 220W...[now hopefully the LiteOn gets flashed, as I've heard it's a more reliable drive]. So it even saves you on your electricity bill. The cooling solution now finally looks like it does on a normal CPU, and I did get the HDMI for the first time [had all Xenons before] (gave me reason to visit monoprice, their cables are insane, 4-5$ for 10ft HDMI).

BENQ has HORRIBLE read speeds on burned media.

GTA4 textures load 5mins later on BENQ lol.

if you got a 175W PSU, you got a falcon. Jasper uses a 150W PSU.

Fortunately we can install games to the HDD now.

I am stuck to the Lite-on for quite some time now, i don't mind waiting for a little more. I only wish that you can install the fw (when it's released) without soldering.

well it kind of matters since the majority of people only have a 20gb hard drive...so for now I can only choose to install one game at a time which is kind of annoying until I can get a 120gb hard drive.  The thing is that most of the drives seem pretty loud to me...only thing I really hear is the xbox 360 fan blowing like there's no tomorrow when I play a game...

Exactly why i don't install games.... bought a "20GB" hard drive, only 13.1 G of space total. I have tons of Rock Band downloads, so no space....

Anyways this is very exciting to see that the LiteOn is being figured out! Also 1.5 soon (hopefully)!! Sweet

So I guess that means we'll still have to get the key by using a serial adapter, etc, but then flashing can still be done via SATA alone, since supposedly the f/w chip is flashable, but "not" readable...or so someone said a while back.

I think, but don't know for sure, that what they meant by the hardware part is the "soldering two connections" part, not the retrieval of the keys using the serial connection. So hopefully we won't to construct that cable anymore.

Great news that it is finally hacked and a firmware will be out soon.

A few things concern me about the new v1.5 iXtreme though.

I noticed c4eva stated that it will be single 12x speed only? Is this because it's detectable? or simply because of the ability to install on HDD?

If the later, then what about the Acrade owners without a HDD? If it is a security issue then it's ok.

Will there be any extra features for BenQ drives included such as improved reading? I guess it doesn't matter since there is now installs.

Is the Lite-On drive any better at reading backups when compared to the BenQ? I know they are close to the same drive with just a different chipset but maybe c4eva tweaked the firmware better than he did for the BenQ.

Just got my xbox back from repair, sure enough got a liteon.  Just out of curiousity, I tried the dosflash32 that is for Benq's, and it was able to initially detect it (ie the first window popped up about turning it off and back on), but after power cycling it, it was never found.

I hope this comes out soon, would be nice to avoid buying another dvd drive smile.gif

Paraphrasing c4eva from the chat - 12x "limitation" is due to HDD installation, which makes 8x and 5x builds obsolete (and would probably save some coding time as well).

What about people with no HDD at all and just have the memory unit? 8x was a great speed as it had the balance of speed and quietness. 12x is great for installs i agree.

Great work by the team.

instead of the sheep it wil be the xbox360 getting slaughtered lol

as far as i know. the software part they are working now on is probably the part for flashing and retrieving keys. what i heard at the channel was that when it's fully done the process will be the same as with other drives. meaning key extraction through software and no soldering or other parts required.

This question is not really appropriate for this thread, as this is a discussion about firmware release not flashing.

Regardless.... Flashing before or after NXE shouldn't make any difference. Many of the people on the most recent ban cycle were banned before NXE even came out.

Since there are reports of the NXE bricking some consoles (modded or not) I would installed the NXE before opening that case. That way if the NXE bricks your system you can return it without any issues and you didn't waste time flashing it.

(15:36:51) (+c4eva) onge:no, too busy for that, liteon beta testing this weekend!
(15:39:00) (+c4eva) key will still be via serial for now!

[04:30] <Rinoa> c4eva: u ony going to rlz single speed 12x from now on to Samsung/Hitachi/BenQ/Lite-On drives?
[04:30] <Rinoa> sounds like MS could tell the speed
[04:30] <c4eva> Rinoa:Yes

[04:32] <c4eva> at present the serial is still needed to get the key, everything else is software/sata

[04:35] <prankster> c4eva, do you ever see a non-solder solution for key extraction, or is key always sent over tx?

[04:36] <RoCk-BoX> hey man , i just had a question, is running ixtreme 1.4 as safe as its gunna get on live?
[04:36] <c4eva> 1.5 is better

[04:40] <dffdfd> is the lite-on beta testing this weekend for select members or the general public?
A: it's for a closed group of beta testers initially

[04:44] <c4eva> all flashing for liteon can be done in windows

[04:51] <c4eva> nxe is fine

[05:09] <Suuuuuup2> c4eva, how was the firmware originally dumped?
[05:09] <c4eva> it was decapped in acid!

[05:10] <Suuuuuup2> C4eva, kinda pointless asking, but will the new GUI replace Toolbox ?
[05:11] <c4eva> suuuuup2:yes

[05:12] <c4eva> patching liteon with 1.5 as i speak here

[05:12] <Savior-X> so its been stated ck3 is still needed. anywhere besides divineo ?
[05:13] <Arakon> Savior-X: no, it's not needed. you can just make your own serial adapter for a few bucks, or get the maximus tool
[05:13] <c4eva> xtractor works well
[05:14] <Arakon> xboxhacker.net has several diagrams in the large thread, or get a premade one from ebay (serial ttl converter)

[05:15] <Suuuuuup2> c4eva, is the lite-on firmware similar to Benq?
[05:16] <c4eva> no

[05:39] <p0tty> n e one try the spear yet for the liteon?
[05:39] <c4eva> p0tty:yes works well

[05:47] <c4eva> flashing liteon is easy. send wipe command then flash fw

[05:48] <Zheez> do you need to power the liteon drives on and off like you used to have to with samsung/benqs?
[05:48] <c4eva> zheez:no
[05:49] <troubloso> so c4eva 1.5 will have new way to flash?
[05:49] <c4eva> troub:yes

[05:26] <liqwidsky> c4eva, what does the improved bad angle support in 1.5 do?
[05:30] <c4eva> it will ensure no more bad angle before jitter smile.gif
[05:34] <liqwidsky> [...] is 1.5 doing something extra, like decrypting the host ccrt and checking deviation?
[05:38] <c4eva> yes within deviation will not allow bad angles

I just can't wait! I sold my modded benq x360 for a good price to someone, I though: just buy a new x360 and mod it.. First is though it was a benq again, but when I opened my x360 it was a new type, a LiteOn haha. And  hopefully I can play my backups again in a few days (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif). Thanks c4eva and his team, I reallay appreciate this (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

It looks like you still have to solder or buy an xtractor tool to flash Lite-on

As i see it, you wont need to mess with the key to flash it. The key is stored elsewhere and the extraction is needed to spood another drive that has it on the firmware... since you will be using the same drive, no key spoofing needed

No, you couldnt be more wrong.  The key is contained within the firmware.  You will need to dump the key using the currently available method, patch your key into the firmware when available, then flash it to the drive.  If you dont obtain the key first, you sytem will never boot any games again.

So the firmware is still essentially unreadable then, except for extracting the key or dipping the chip in acid?  When we read through a serial adaptor, are we reading off of the firmware itself or some other location?

Does anyone know if they're going to bother figuring out how to read the key through SATA?  I never thought the firmware would be written before it could be read.

I really think that a new app should be made for all the noobs out there, something that forces a key read before flashing, at least a message that pops up reminding you that your key needs to be dumped.

Good work thou biggrin.gif

The firmware is unreadable and is why you are dumping the key the way you are.  The key is reported from the firmware and is a supported function of 360 drives (look at dvdkey, etc..).  If there exists in the fw a way to dump via sata, i'm sure c4e will inform us.

Why would you have thought that?  Ensure your key is backed up and you'll never have an issue.  The firmware will be fully tested before public release, so the key is your only concern...

Great job! Im thoroughly excited! I picked the right time to get a new 360! Now we play the waiting game.

Also.. Im not new to flashing, but I dont know a lot about key extraction.. Can someone tell me if I will be needing a tool to do this? Or is there a good chance that theres a software solution to key extraction? Sorry if thats a noob ass question, but Id really like to know.

Will the 1.5 ixtreme fix the horrible graphics pop in on the benq drives or is that a defect on the benq drive itself?  sorry if this isnt topic apropriate but other firmwares were mentioned in the conversation with c4eva/

also from what I have been reading the lite-on drive wont be able to be flashed via the traditional hook it up to your pc via sata cable anymore? you will need a new adapter?

The earlier threads and the quotes from C4E mentioned that everything would be SATA readable, so I was under the impression that being able to read the firmware once the hard way would somehow be related to us being able to get to it the easy way.  Not that it makes much sense but it was a reason to hold off on trying to get my serial number.  Guess I'd better get cracking then.

from what I understand you still need to use CK3 tool. xtractor, or homemade tool to get the key off of the drive then the actual flashing will be done like other drives thru sata. There are plenty of threads on making your own tool or buying a premade one

i thought that was a problem with the drive, not with the firmware. people with unmodded systems have reported that issue.

what i'm getting at is that the new firmware probably won't fix that, but the ability to install to the harddrive through nxe should. just install any games that give you trouble like this.

nope. gotta use the current methods to extract the key. if we are lucky, c4e & his team will find a way to dump the key through sata in the future after the release of the firmware. if we aren't that lucky, well, at least the drives will be moddable even if it requires some extra work.

you are a real clown because if you go one page back you'd see that the thing i told you to copy into google is from V.I.P's post. Anyway we are wasting good thread space arguing over nonsense. Neither of us are helping in creating the firmware, so im ending this ridiculousness right now. I didn't create a fake name/post just to piss people off.

Xbox-Scene forum thread -- "Liteon Key For Free, how to dump your liteon using salvaged parts" -- http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=668247

2008-12-07
[02:39] <c4eva> ALL SPOOFED LITEONS ARE EASILY DETECTABLE BY MS! EVEN BENQ! WILL NEED IX1.5!
[02:42] <c4eva> 1.5 will cater for hidden liteon MS command!
[02:47] <mjstriker> I have spoofed over 50 drives and I haven't heard of anyone being detected
[02:48] <c4eva> detected, not banned, that may come later

2008-12-08
[01:54] <c4eva> liteon reads backups nice n fast, no benqish problems!
[01:57] <c4eva> very much like sammy
[01:58] <c4eva> quiet as well
[02:02] <c4eva> spoof with a liteon, will be supported
[02:05] <c4eva> tested on assasins creed, no issues!

I think that's what Reaper527 is trying to say.. the true line is the one saying that there is no release date for 1.5.

We just have to wait it's as simple as that.

/T

yup. that is exactly what i was getting at. but i was wrong, as there is an eta.

according to the #fw topic

Yes... why would i make it up?  That many were required for a few reasons, such as perfecting the decapping process.  I'm sure Iriez will release more info if it is agreed.

Caster.

i cant wait for this to come out i have about 6-8 to flash for my friends within the 1st day or so that 1.5 is released..
ive already called a few to have them come by so i can get the keys off them and have them already "read" and in folders with the serial ( so i don't mix anything up ) ... hope he releases 1.5 before i head to vegas for CES in jan. i cant wait to play around and flash whatever new ones i can get my hands on :/

This type of chip reverse engineering isn't all that rare or all that expensive really.

They've been doing it for MAME for awhile.

The Decapping Project

You don't really understand the difference. Decapping in acid aside, MAME projects are optically reading "simple" maskroms. The challenge here was to attach to 50 micron connection wires as you can see in the photo and read electrically the information.  No specs are published for the piggybacked chip (timings, pin"out", voltage levels). Personally, I'm totally impressed with their work.

rgds,
baltaatje,

its not like they were killing systems. people probably dumped their lite-on key, replaced with a benq/hitachi/samsung drive, and then donated the drive for testing.

with all the RROD machines out there, there are more drives than systems.

Stay away from JungleFlasher!!!! Its evil and it probably killed my LiteOn Drive!!!

Here is what happened - at the moment i am so peeved off i cannot think straight at all!

I followed a guide to use jungleflasher and it all went smoothly until it asked me to erase the existing fw so i did as the guide told me. Ever since then my liteon drive does not respond to spear and extractor as well as making my computer refuse to boot with my liteon drive attached to extractor!!!!

If i remove the power from the drive the pc boots, if i wait until desktop is loaded and all and reconnect the drive the pc freezes! It's like its trying to tell me the drive is dead.

I no longer see the blue led on the spear when i try to read the key off R707 and dosflash32 no longer lists my sata port D800 anymore as well as other programs like liteon erase. All Liteon erase gives me for status is FFFF!

So right now i believe my liteon drive is pretty much dead!!!

True i am grateful to the team for their hardwork and true i knew it was buggy still but it should never have being released if it would cause this much damage!!!
