Title: Hitachi 78 Drive 360 Firmware Toolbox "cannot Read From Drive&quo
Post by: cupasoep on May 30, 2008, 02:45:00 AM
Hi Guys,

Im trying to flash a hitachi v78. drive is recognized in windows, plays movies.
But when i try to do a raw dump in 360 firmware toolbox it says: "cannot read from drive".
I've tryed on 5 different systems (none with a via chipset).
The systems had prommise, sis and nvidia sata chipsets.

Is it possible that flashing the 78 drive only works with a via chipset?

Thanks in advance for your reactions!

The VIA chipset runs faster or something like that, it could be an issue, I use NForce/VIA for all my 360's.

You don't need VIA to flash the 78

You need to set it in ModeB with Slax en then it will be possible to flash it with almost all sata chipsets!

I usually flash them with VIA, but i've had successfull flashes on INTEL and NFORCE chipsets too

I don't know what you're doing wrong

Try ejectin the drive with toolbox, insert an original game of movie, insert the tray, wait till the drive starts spinning and then press the raw dump buttnon

That always works for me!

you sure it is a v78 drive?  sounds like it might be a v79 drive from what you are saying.

Try C4eva's pack to see if it flashes with that

Toolbox should be able to flash both though!

BTW, if you arent able to dump the firmware, how can you tell if it's a 78. For as far as I know Windows only recognises a HT-SL something and that is shown in toolbox too!

I think you might be doing something wrong

If it's a 47 it probably wouldn't have worked with a Via anyhow... The 47 can be kinda awkward with Via... In toolbox make sure you try the classic dump and flash47, should work better, and these work with almost all controllers even USB2SATA

LOL it's a 47 that changes A LOT!

You'd better use C4Eva ixtreme 1.4 pack on this one since a 47 can be buggy with Toolbox!!

Where you can get it? Well, I can't say that here, but it is at the "known places (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)"

i'm having a similar problem. I have a 0079 ver. and did the podger deal and used toolbox 4.8. it worked no problems, flashed and everything no errors. and then I think I tried to run this (Maximus-Garyopa_XTRM-HITACHI_v2_2_Stealth) and it errored out and now I can't get tool box or xbc to read. windows sees the drive, sees the disk when I put one in. it is driving me nuts. I want to force the original.bat and start over does anyone have any thoughts for me? oh yeah, the console still works.

hi there, i recently flashed a 0079FL and its not my first, i use a P5N32-E SLI nForce motherboard and drives flash fine, ive done quite a few, for your problem i dont know why u used the garyopa mod after flashing it fine, its Xtreme and 0079's use iXtreme, when did it error out ?, and to fix it you can do what u did, get to windows, download the Xbox 360 Hack Pack and copy over the iXtreme flashing files into the temp directory it makes, then go to the directory, select the speed u want, preferebly 8x and select the restore.bat, continue with that and see if it works, if that errors or bluescreens, do the process again of mode b etc and launch the firmware toolbox 4.8 and, see if u can do a classic dump of the firmware, then click the tools menu at the top and click the option thats something like "find original firmware" and save it, re-open firmware toolbox, open that firmware it saved and try and do a Differential Flash(Patch), Read and detect differences if u can and do a flash and see if that works, ofcourse thru the time if it cant read then use Podgers 79 Unlock, i know i didnt explain this very well, kinda hard.

i have had the same problem always with 0078s i just put the via card into a computer with a different chipset and then it works fine ( chipsets are like nvidia, via, intel, ati )   my normal computer uses via and the one i use for 0078 drives only uses intel chipset . ( chipset is the onboard controller chip not the "SATA" chipset i use my via card for the sata interface in both computers just differant motherboard have different chipsets which ive found 0078 seems to not have the "cannot read from drive" error when i use it with intel chipsets.

( i tried a nvidia chipset board also with the same error but have tried on 2 diff intel boards with success )

if you dont know what  chipset you have download "cpuZ" and click on the motherboard tab.

this is from my experience only i'm not suggesting buying any new motherboards or anything i use old 478 and 462 and 775 stuff to flash  which you can probably pick up an old 478 2ghz board and chip for 10$-20$ if you find it works on intel chipsets for you too and if you flash alot of 0078 it might be worth it.

I have a A7N8X Deluxe motherboards (nvidia nforce2) and I get this error. Any idea?
