Title: Your Help Is Really Needed ! Problems With Hitachi 0059dj From Jun
Post by: obiwankenobi on March 24, 2008, 02:22:00 PM
Dear hitachi specialists, dear GaryOpa
i REALLY need your help, because I have no more plan what else I could do....
I have a XBox360 with a GDR-3120L Hitachi-LG Drive. The label says: 0059 DJ ... another label says: JUNE 2006
I have tried nearly everything....at least I had bricked my drive and purchased the so called Chillifix-Chip. As of right now (after soldering the chip), after a power-on on the Box the 59DJ is in Mode-B (the green LED in the middle is flashing). I can see the drive in Windows XP (File-Explorer) and in the Hardware-Manager. When I put in a video I can see the files in Windows File-Explorer. SO FAR SO GOOD..... BUT here comes the bad:
When I try to RESTORE the original firmware to the drive, this job is interrupting with an error message. When I try to FLASH a new firmware, this job is even interrupting with an error message.
Most of the time the error-message is one like this: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ RESTORE.bat +--------------------------------------+ ¦ ¦ ¦ C4EVA: iXtreme v1.4 MultiSpeed ¦ ¦ HITACHI ALL VERSIONS 8in1 ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ Restores your x360 drive to ORIGINAL ¦ ¦ ¦ +--------------------------------------+
What is the Hitachi drive letter? F . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
#1: Shut-down all your back-ground programs #2: Windows is in-compatible, try SAFE MODE #3: Your DVD drive is not a working version #4: Start mode B with DVD disk in the drive ===========================================
ARE YOU SURE DRIVE "F" IS THE HITACHI DRIVE
What is the Hitachi drive letter? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You (all) can see what I've tried here:. The password is: 4gulli
Please excuse that the documents are in german.....i thought, that I could get help in a german board, but...... helpless answers like "I had no problems flashing a Hitachi...." are worthless.
Maybe one of you or GaryOpa himself can help me out of this trouble !?!?!? I would be very very very thankful !!!!!
Cu later (hopefully) obiwankenobi

#1: Shut-down all your back-ground programs All background programs were closed/cancelled
#2: Windows is in-compatible, try SAFE MODE errors even occuring in SAFE MODE. I don't believe that Windows XP is incompatible...
#3: Your DVD drive is not a working version the drive was definitely working BEFORE first attempt to flash
#4: Start mode B with DVD disk in the drive when powering on the xbox the tray opens itself due to soldered Chilifix-Chip. As I wrote before, my drive WAS bricked. With this Chilifix-Chip I can flash again........IF I COULD. The drive is immediately in Mode-B ... even without a DVD inside

Shorten the directory down, try the root of C:
I have my Hitachi Flash files in:
C:/Hitachi/ix/
Or
C:/Hitachi/X/

Try flashing it using the bat files without a disc in the drive.

I dont believe that this is the reason for this problem...but I will try it. The path (at the time of my attempt) was: C:\iXtreme-HitachiAll-RTMv3

I tried it all the time without a disc.... it seems to be absolutely the same problem as mentioned here Assembly date pre (and after ?) June 2006 -> no problems with flashing Assembly date exactly June 2006 -> ONLY problems with flashing
garyopa wrote a long time ago: Look for the label :PASS5X then add the following two lines: chop now.bin 256000 chop mod.bin 256000 Just before the compare QFC line......
BUT....where should these changes be applied within RESTORE.BAT ????? There are A LOT of lines starting with "qfc ......"

Its been a long while since I first encountered that issue you are having.
Even try removing the 'special' characters - keep the directory as simple and short as possible, Im sure this was my problem (although my drive wasnt bricked)

Im not sure of your full directory.
My restore.bat is in
CODE
C:/Hitachi/ix/restore.bat
My Restore.bat is now in C:\hitachi and the problem IS STILL happening...
I love answers like "Try flashing it using the bat files without a disc in the drive.".... what do you mean what I'm doing ??? If the drive is in Mode-B, the tray is open !! So this answer wasn't much helpful.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
Was nobody able to read these informations ???? As suggested by garyopa:
Look for the label :PASS5X then add the following two lines: chop now.bin 258048 chop mod.bin 258048 Just before the compare QFC line......
but (!!!) there are a lot of "qfc ......." under :FLASH5X or :RETRY5X
I've found under :FLASH5X the following lines: chop custom.bin 16384 chop check.bin 16384
Are these 2 lines correct ?
In another post I found again 2 other values (instead of 258048): chop now.bin 256000 chop mod.bin 256000

obiwankenobi, I've had kinda det same problem.
My solution: Download Toolbox Go to Tools -> Direct Drive Flash (GDR Only) -> Differential Flash (Pick the one you want) -> Check the "Use Classic Mode" -> Click "Read and detect differences" -> then important: choose the flash59 programmer, NOT the internal programmer -> Flash!
At least, this did the trick for me, when anything else refused to flash the drive. Let me know how it works out.

Hi Biaz,
many thanks for your suggestion, but unfortunately it was also without success....here is what I've done (step by step):
- started Windows XP in Safe Mode, logged on as Adminstrator drive appears in Hardware-Manager and in Windows Exploer (as drive G:); green LED in the middle of the power-switch is flashing; no disc in the drive - started c:\xbox\360FwTb.exe Comment: it is v4.6 - opened Original-Firmware-File saved a few weeks ago - selected "Tools/Direct Drive Flash (GDR Only)/Differential Flash (RESTORE) - enabled "Use Classic Mode to Read Differences (only v59 and lower) - clicked on Button "Read and Detect Differences" Program shows me then: Flash this sectors: 9003E000, 9002E000, 90026000 - selected "59flash.exe" in Dropdown-Field above - clicked on Button "Start Flashing" The following messages appeared after ~ 10 seconds: Confirmation: Verify Step failed for sector 3E000. Do you want to retry ? Y/N - selected 'Y' two times ... the same message appeared. - selected 'N' like a endless loop the messages appeared for sectors 2E000 and 26000. answered each message with 'N' - answered the last message with 'N'. After that there comes up a new message-window: Run-time error '70'. Permission denied. - selected 'OK' in that windows and the program closed itself.
After rebooting the PC I tried then a Differential Flash (PARTIAL) with iXtreme 1.4 firmware. All messages came again with the same error-messages but other sector adresses: 90003000, 90006000,9000A000, 9001C000, 90026000, 90027000, 9002E000, 90034000, 90035000 and 9003E000.
After the last message-window again: Run-time error '70'. Permission denied. 'OK'. Program closes itself.
I think this drive is really horrible and my nigtmare for the next 100 years !!
