Hi (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I was flashing my MS28. I used samread to dump my firmware and than I restarted PC and xbox and used samhack to flash it but it wrote something like cannot read from input file and freezed.. Than I turned off both xbox and PC. When I turned up xbox it showed Erorr E 65. What to do now? I have read something about E 65 but didnt find nothing specific. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Thanks for every help and sry for my english.

The ms28 usually can be re-flashed from bricked state so i would recommend trying to re-flash the drive a few times see if you can be succesful... hope this helps ive never had this problem so can help too much

e65 is an error code for a broken dvd drive!! sow yes reflash it ,,,,and it will work!!

Oh thanks but what you exactly mean by reflashing? I tried to do this: I copied fw key in 360fw toolbox from orig.bin to xtreme.bin and copied xtreme.bin to the root of MS. I used mtkflash w /m xtreme.bin but when I select the chipset count to ten and power on the xbox nothing happens. I tried this more than 10 times. It looks like its not more possible to flash new fw into the drive..? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

The hacked firmware is not spoofed as something different than what was originally in your console right?

I keep the 360 off, boot to dos,turn on 360, do mtkflash command, choose 2 , count to 3-5-10 seconds and turn on the 360....

The 10-second trick is rubbish IMO. You should try this: The 100% Correct Way To Flash A MS28

Brief summary:

With Xbox off and not connected to PC SATA, boot PC to DOS prompt
Connect SATA cable to Xbox, turn Xbox on
Type mtkflash w /m xtreme.bin and press Enter
**As soon as you see the message 'Scanning drives' or 'Detecting drives' turn Xbox off** (this is the important part)
Now select your 'XTREME Pri Master' and turn Xbox back on and it will write your firmware

Two points to note:

1. Disable ALL of your PC's IDE and SATA controllers in BIOS (I see you still have ICH6 enabled)
2. You should be using iXtreme 1.4, older firmware is not safe

I did what you said: mtkflash w /m orig.bin hited enter than exactly turned off 360, selected Xtreme Pri Master and turned on 360 but again it didnt write firmware.

I think problem is somewhere else but dont know where.. Im just wondering why dumping firmware worked and writing doesnt.

Mtkflash will give the message if the dvd rom has not been unlocked first. Need to make enable800. Run this disc first before using mtkflash or dosflash!

Im not able to run 0800 disc cause I cannot open drive when sata cabel is pluged in 360 it shows E 65 erorr and its not possible to open drive.

i fixed an E65 once too. Did it like this:

borrow a working samsung dvd drive (modded or non modded; doesnt matter) from a pal of yours and put that in the 360. Connect it to the pc as you did before and boot the pc and 360 like you did before too. You should end up in dos with the xbox (with borrowed drive in it) turned off.

Now, give the mtkflash w cmd, press enter, turn the xbox on immediately after hitting enter (so not at the same time; i turn it on as soon as i hear the floppy becoming active and thats like half a sec after hitting enter) and it will give you the selection screen. Do NOT select anything yet and turn the xbox off. Swap the drive for your E65 drive (make sure you do else you will end up flashing your friends drive and he might not be totally happy with that), make the selection and turn the xbox on. It should start writing.

Note that you possibly have a bad diskette as you stated that there was an error reading from the source (which i assume is a diskette).

Worked for me. VIA6421 pci-to-sata card.

No that wasnt diskette but USB and the problem was that hacked.bin hasnt existed when I used SAMHACK. Can anyone else tell me if switching drive after hiting enter on mtkflash w would work?
I have VIA6421 too

I just recovered from this exact same problem. All you need to do is try different timings. 10 seconds works great before e65 but after you need to try 3 seconds or 1 second or 5 seconds....... you get the idea. Eventualy itll work, trust me. Also try typing mtkflash w /m /sata orig.bin (or whatever your f/w is named). I tried the drive swap thing with no success, just keep switching up your timings on the 10 second trick and it'll work. 1 second worked for me.

Shit, I have tried 10-5-3-2-1 second trick for few times but nothing new (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) . I hope I didnt brick my drive forever (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) . I tried almost everything using different USB keys, diferent programs: iPrep, xtremebootmaker.. diferent seconds to count, diferent commands: mtkflash, iflash, samhack.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) but cant understand why dumping firmware before E 65 worked and writing new fw after E 65 doesnt..

what happens is when the firmware gets corrupt the firmguard isnt active so theres nothing stopping you from reading/writing straight to the flash chip.

try it, ive fixed loads when people have said it wont flash correctly etc

Just keep switching up the timings and hopefully eventualy it'll work. Trust me i feel your pain. Im embarassed to say how many hours it took me to fix mine (thats why i'm not telling

) but persistance is the key!

The orig.bin is 256 kb for sure but the hacked.bin was 0 kb when I used samhack. I have tried flashing without turning off the 360 already but freezes at the same moment. Thanks everybody for helping me, Im gonna try another 20 times and hope that will work.

i've got exactly the same problem, also my drive won't even open. Also when I press the on/off button my 360 takes a lot more time getting shutdown, about 10 seconds, which I didn't had before I dumped the key. I'll now try some different timings and hope i'll get the right one. I'll let you guys know if it worked or not.

EDIT: YES it worked I didn't shutdown the 360 at all (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) try this again it helped wonderfull. My 360 also shutdowns like normal again.

Yes I also got the error and I spend hours to flash it back to the orig.bin, with the badflash method which didn't work, but when I just didn't put off the console before choosing the drive it worked and my ms28 is now flashed to 1.4 after trying to update the firmware again.
