Title: Hitachi 79 Drives, Are They Phasing Out The Other Drives Yet
Post by: Modify_inc on December 08, 2007, 10:36:00 AM
This is probably a long shot, but are they still putting out hitachi 79 drives?  If so, are there more of them or BenqQ drives, and can you still get a samsung drive with a new box or have they been phased out?  The reason I ask, is I can't do the Passkey installation, and so my purchase of a Xbox is going to be risky, not having any idead what I'm getting. If I knew what my chances are, I would feel little more comfortable about my purchase.  Is there anything you can get from the lot number and/or manfacturing date that could help in making a decision?  Looking at the 360 database, it looks like there are more BenQ's out there than any other.  Anyone have  any opinions on this?

Thanks

I do not believe they still use Samsung drives. But if you want a benq then go here.

You might be lucky if you can get a non-HDMI Xbox, I got a MS28 in mine, bought 3 weeks ago. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Then again, I'm in Australia (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

if its a non hdmi box though, it means he has an older system that will be more prone to the RRoD. obviously he intends to void the warranty, so i would think he would want the newest system he can get ahold of with a benq drive.

True enough. I really wanted a HDMI-equipped Xbox with a BenQ for the same reason, unfortunately all the ones I looked at would have had Hitachi v79s according to 360drives. In the end I found the older model for $100 less, so overall still happy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

yeah, sorry brotha you messed up. Your xbox still has the design flaw  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)  you'll be seeing red lights soon enough.

I got fed up with my premium did the xclamp fix everything... nothing worked permanently (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) picked up an arcade with a benq drive, never been happier  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pop.gif)

And if your careful (and have enough experience) you could open the case without breaking the warranty sticker  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
