Hello guys, Im trying to back up my benq drive with via 6421 chipset dosflash16, these are the steps i take..
1. Boot with ntfsdos
2. change dir to c: (where all my files are stored)
3. cd dosflash
4. dosflash r e800(which is my device io) 1 a0 1 4 c:\benq.bin 0
5. press enter then it ask to resend mtk vendor, then i type yes
6. then i turn on the benq drive then i start to see the drive status changing then turn it off for 2 seconds then turn it on after another two.. an this is what i keep getting "Reading Bank 0..." anyone else have this problem?

and after changing the HEX do you turn of the drive again... have you tried not turning off the drive?
My drive didn“t needed the 2/3 seconds trick... maybe yours the same... worth a try.

I have this EXACT problem.
more information:
i have a dell dimention 3100, onboard sata disabled.
I have the VIA SATA VT 6421L card, with my HD on one channel, and the benq on the other. I boot using IDE cd rom with an NTFS for DOS boot cd. the benq drive is off to begin with, otherwise it wont get past the sata boot screen.
once booted up, type YES at NTFS prompt, then navigate to Dosflash, run dosflash with this:
dosflash r d870 1 a0 1 4 c:\backup.bin 0
It promtps me to resend the command, i hit Y, then i turn on the benq drive. it starts swticing between D1 and 51, i power down benq, then power up benq again, and it goes to x73, and says:
Reading Bank 0....
then it sits there eternally.
Anybody have any clue? im going insane, and i've tried many things over a span of 6 hours now. If i boot into winxp, i can get the same thing to happen with dosflash32, but it hangs on reading bank 0.
I know I'm using the right address hex, it is the specific hex of that port on the via card.
any thoughts?

The Via performance with dosflash depends on ur mobo. NF3 or NF4 is the best
-
boot dosflash16 through a:\ floppy drive . probably get issues when flashing with c:\ drive
-
I tried not powering off the drive an still the same thing its stays at Read Bank 0... , I also don't have a floppy drive is there a way i can do this with a pen drive?

dosflash r d870 1 a0 1 4 c:\backup.bin 0
I had this problem yesterday, it halted on Bank 0. Put a '1' on the end of your command instead of '0'.

I've tried it both ways.... same result.

Try to wait a few minutes, i did it with a floppy and thought it was screwd up, but you just sometimes need to wait?
Just try to wait a few minutes.

If you PC/Bios supports it, I highly recommend that this is done via thumbdrive/media card/flashcard/ect.
In a nutshell, here is what I did (granted I have nf4 mobo)...
1: unhook all drives (cdrom/dvdrom/HD's)-this helps to prevent any issues that may come up.
2: hook up xbox drive to pc (keep xbox drive power hooked up to the xbox, make sure no disk is in it!)
3: make sure xbox is off, and boot PC off of flash device
4: at command prompt, turn on xbox to power up the drive
5: type your command, when asked to resend mtk vendor, hit yes
6: power off xbox, wait for 2 or more seconds, turn xbox back on. If you get a drive status of 0x73, then everything is good to go. If not, restart the process over.
7: Now continue with dumping/flashing
NOTE: this is what I did on my nf4 mobo. if you use another mobo/card/ect. an aditional power cycle of the benq drive may be needed to get the 0x73 status. read the readme file that came with doshflash 1.3 beta for detailed instructions for dumping/flashing.

Thank you for these steps/tips. I'm going to try it tonight via USB flash, and eliminate my hard drive from the equation. I think the presense of my HD on the same SATA bus (even though they are on separate channels) might be causing problems with my particular hardware configuration.

Thank you BlackWar! Using your advice, it set me on the right path... here is an update, I GOT EVERYTHING WORKING:
below is a link that outlines everything i did to get a successful dump/write:

I bought a VIA controller and had my Benq flashed and working in 5 minutes. Guess my onboard NForce controller wasn't good enough...
-
I just cant get past Reading Bank 0...
I go thru the proccess and get the good drive status code 0x73 and then it just sits infinitely on Reading Bank 0...
i really wanna get this working

I DONE IT!!
I got it working. read the firmware, created iXtreme and then flashed it although it gave errors when I flashed so I just erased it and tried again and it worked fine. Didnt reboot, either just erased then wrote it after it failed from the same screen.
YAY!!
Now I have another question. I tried ti play Skate and it told me I needed to download updates before I could play the game. Now this might be a silly question, but is it now ok to sign up to xbox live and download any dash updates?
ps. BioShock worked tho! But my HIN didn't work.. maybe try burning again.
