IXTREME V1.1 FOR BENQ TUTORIAL v1 (WRITING RIGHT NOW I HIT POST ACCIDENTLY)
WARNING I take no responsibility for how you use this information. If you break it, it's your fault!
Okay after reading basic tutorials out their designed to show how to modify the BenQ firmware utilizing C4EVA's new iXtreme v1.1 for the BenQ drive I realized they all were not fully correct. So I designed this tutorial (Sorry But No Pics if someone can provide some I will edit this post). This was done using a VIA6421 PCI Sata Card.
WHAT YOU NEED
NTFS4DOS
http://www.360mods.net/Downloads/details/id=56.html
iPREP
http://www.360mods.net/Downloads/details/id=84.html
DOSFLASH
http://www.360mods.net/Downloads/details/id=86.html
iXTREME v1.1 BENQ FIRMWARE
http://www.xbins.org/nfo.php?file=xboxnfo1633.nfo
TUTORIAL
1. Create a folder in the root of your HDD (C:) called DOSFLASH
2. Download & Extract DOSFLASH
3. Copy The Contents of the DosFlash16 folder to the DOSFLASH folder in the root of your HDD.
4. Create a folder called BENQ in the DOSFLASH folder.
5. Copy the contents of either the Fast or Quiet iXtreme firmware which you wish to use into the BENQ folder. Below is an example of what you should have so far.
DOSFLASH
BENQ
FW
6. Now Download & Extract iPrep and start the application. Check Custom Serial ATA
then hit List SCSI Based Controllers Choose Your SATA Chipset through the Drop Down Box. Then Get The First 4 Numbers/Letters from the Dev IO Box (ex. DC00) Remember Your Number!
7. Now burn the NTFS4DOS Image Onto A CD-R. Once Burning is Complete Shut Down Your Computer. Do Not Remove The Disc From Your Drive!
(IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) Optional Step
If your PC will not boot directly from the CD change the Boot Sequence in your Bios by hitting F2 at the startup screen when your computer turns on. And change it to boot from CD first in your Bios.
8. Plug Your BenQ drive into you SATA chipset on your computer.
9. Turn on Your Computer. NTFS4DOS should come up. Just Hit Enter You Will Then Be Prompted to Agree To The TOS Type Yes and Hit Enter
10. Now Once In NTFS4DOS Type the drive letter where you saved the DOSFLASH folder along with a colon then hit Enter (ex. C:)
11. Now type in cd DOSFLASH and hit Enter.
12. Now turn on your 360 (It Should Be Connected To Your Computer)
13. Follow the on screen instructions on DOSFLASH. Remember to make a backup of your firmware!
This is just a basic tutorial right now I am not at my house, tommorow it will be completely updated with some pictures and more in depth.

Yeah here is the updated link (http://www.xbox360-hacks.com/file/69) appearently I am unable to edit my first post so I guess the updated tutorial will be posted a a reply. It will all be up tomorrow. I personally just purchased my 360 today with a BenQ in it because my Hitachi 360 just broke today due to the 3 Ring Error. Best way to get a BenQ is check out http://360drives.com and compare lot numbers look for a 0737 thats what I got it was a Premium which included Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Forza 2.

OH PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE FINISH THIS TUTORIAL~!!!
I started on it, thinking that it was complete or that I could finish it myself from dosflash.exe....but theres still so much more to it.
Im stuck, its late and Im frustrated. I hope you finish this article by the time I wake up hahaha.
-
Thanks for the tut, I am going to check it tonight (this will be my first mod, since I have the 360 for 3 days now), wish me luck ;-)
-
Just follow the standard ixtreme benq firmware instructions from Manhunt's end point and that will explain the rest of the process to update your drive firmware.
-
Okay seeing as I am unable to edit the first post the tutorial is almost done. Although it is pretty much self explanatory where I left off. Their will be on screen instructions after you type DOSFLASH. Turn on your 360 and go through the steps it will show up as the drive with the most information hit the number of that drive then Enter. And so on/so forth. Once again I am not home and am unable to fully update the tutorial.
-
and please add more pics
I neve flashed a Drive yet so the more detial you can make it the better.
thanks
-
My steps.
1.C:
2.cd DOSFLASH
3.Power ON Xbox 360
4.dosflash.exe
5. It shows 3 ports none are the Xbox 360's. I enter No t resend the command until the drive responds. I do this twice for my drive to be on the list.
6. I select my drive #8 - The Details: Flash Manufacturar ID: 0x00, DeviceID:0x00 - Flash Type :MTK Vendor Intro Failed! - Flash Size: 0 bytes (0 KB).
7. Unknown flash chip!
That is what I always get.
-
wow noooooobbbbbbinsh.
anybody who has already extracted their firmware should be able to flash their drive. seing that reading the firmware is the "hard part" lololololololololol.
I love noobs.
-
So are you supposed to use Dosflash 16 or 32 from 1.2 or 1.3? Dosflash32 doesnt do anything for me even with the VIA driver disabled. If I use Dosflash16 in 1.3, it asks about resending the MTK and when I press yes and turn the 360 off and on, it still switches between the 51 and the other number and never changes like it says in other tutorials. When I use dosflash16 in 1.2, it doesnt ask about the MTK but it asks if I want to read, write or erase the firmware. Then after putting in dosflash r xxxx 1 a0 1 4 orig.bin 1 it is able to create the orig.bin file in the dosflash folder but after that step it asks if I want to overwrite or not. If I press yes then it gives some error. What am I supposed to do?
-
it shouldn't be a problem when u able 2 boot in dos mode with dosflash16 ver1.3... just follow the instruction n u'll hv ur drive flashed with iextreme in no time.... just finished modding my halo 3 360... i think its the easiest among other drive....
-
When i use ntfsdos it seems to just sit there after it allocates the amount of memory. I can't remember exactly what is there. I do the step process where you have to hit y for everything and then it it says blah blah something about the internet and then just hangs. Anyone know whats up?

Using a USB pen drive was alot easier for me and took me about 5 minutes to figure out.

I have tried this with a usb and disk boot disk. When I put in dosflash r XXXX 1 a0 1 4 orig.bin 0, it asks about the MTK question. Then after I press Y, it says Status 0xFF and never changes when I power the xbox on or off.

what prog are you guys using to format your USB sticks?

Manhunt, I apologize if im being off topic but if you could answer my question to the holiday bundle that you just purchased does it come with a HDMI port?
-
thnx just what i was looking for
-
Alright so I figured it out. I couldnt get it to work the way you did. I had to create a bootdisk on a floppy using iprep, then I put Dosflash16 v1.2 and ixtreme 1.1 on the disk. I didnt do any of the commands such as dosflash r xxxx 1 a0 1 4 orig.bin 0 cause I just couldnt get it to work. I ended up just going to dosflash.exe from the floppy then going to read, orig.bin then going back to windows and creating the new bin file. Then going back to dos and erasing and writing with the new bin.

I wanted to ask one question.
I'm a complete noob, I think this is my first post actually. I have modded my Nintendo Wii which is an entirely different matter from updating firmware on an Xbox for modding purposes.
My simple question is, does this topic contain everything needed to mod my Xbox minus the taking apart the console? Or do I need to use additional resources such as The Textbook that I have seen for more trivial steps that I wouldn't know about outside of the scope of this topic?
Thanks for your help! Very clearly-written tutorial.

I noticed that for some reason while in ntfsdos that the order of the hard drives are not the same as they are while in windows!! Just pay attention while in the program because it shows what drives are scanned with their limit size!!! I say this because i have 2 hard drives and 3 assigned drive letters even showing the recovery drive off of drive C: (you know for recovery disk that's assigned).
I can't get my drive recognized while in dosflash but i haven't disabled all sata and ide through bios which i believe was recommended!

yea you were right instead of c: i tried d: and i didnt get the error but insted it went to

After typing in dosflash.exe
I turn off my xbox, turn it back on, then choose my xbox drive (#4 for me). It then asks me if I want to read, write, or erase. I choose write, and it ask me what the file name is. What do I do from there? Am I on the right track?
-
Well, I hope I didn't mess up my drive. Below is EXACTLY what I did:
After all the steps above, I typed in dosflash.exe
Then it asked to resend, so I typed yes then hit enter.
Turned off my xbox and turned it back on after 5 seconds.
It then has a list of things, I chose my drive (#4) and hit enter.
It then asks me if I want to (w) for write, ® for read, or (e) for erase.
I type in (w) for write, and this it asks me for the file name.
I type in c:\dosflash\benq\fw\benq-ixA.bin 1
It then erases really fast, followed by writing bank 1,2,3......followed my "OK" next to each bank
It then stops and brings me back to the original prompt.............C:DOSFLASH and stays like that for about 15 seconds.
I turn off my computer, then turn off my xbox thinking it's all done. I try to put in a backup disk burned with Verbatim DL disks (I have used these same disks before in my older Xbox360 and they work fine) but I get a white screen saying please insert a 360 disk. I even tried to put an original (non-backup disk) and I get the same white screen saying please insert a 360 disk. Now nothing works. What did I do wrong and how do I fix it?
Please help anyone!!!

Flashed my Benq yesterday (my first flash ever), seems to be pretty easy.
I had some problems on my own motherboard (Nforce4), couldn't get the dosflash tool to read the original firmware. So I went to a friend of mine (who has a VIA chipset --> We did need to set his SATA to disable BOOTROM in BIOS).
Was pretty easy, just boot with bootdisk, run dosflash.exe with the appropriate arguments and it worked like a charm.
The things I did.
1. Create bootdisk and put dosflash v1.3 on it.
2. Booted PC and Booted XBOX360 (XBOX360 with his own psu)
3. Then I started dosflash.exe
4. Pressed 'Yes'
4. I had to turn of my XBOX360 for about 2 seconds and put it back on.
5. Dosflash started to read my firmware (took about 2 minutes I guess)
6. Rebooted to Windows
7. Made 4 backups of my original firmware :-P
8. Then I copied my firmware in the Xtreme package which just came out. (named orig.bin, need for batchfiles)
9. I ran the .bat script in the package.
10. Copied the benq-ix.bin from the same directory to my floppy.
11. I rebooted my computer and the XBOX360 again.
12. Ran dosflash.exe with the ERASE!! option
13. Ran dosflash.exe with the WRITE optoin
14. Pressed 'Yes'
15. I had to turn of my XBOX360 for about 2 seconds and put it back on.
16. Dosflash.exe started to write on 4 banks.
The reason I say that you FIRST need to erase it, is because you will probably get an error if you try to overwrite it (that's what happened to me).
After you erased the current firmware and after that write the iXtreme firmware you should be fine.
Took about an hour for me to open/flash/close the XBOX360.
Commands used.
CODE
dosflash.exe r b400 1 a0 1 4 a:\orig.bin
dosflash.exe e b400 1 a0 1 4 D8
dosflash.exe w b400 1 a0 1 4 a:\benq-ix.bin
c000 was primary SATA
b400 was secondary SATA
Hope this helps for some of you...
Cheers,
-pikah
EDIT: Afaik you can only play stealthed backups.

I been modding consoles for years, and have done a few of the samsung and Hitachi, I just need some clarification on what to do after I dump the firmware. The 360 is still flashing and I have to redo the whole on off sequence to do anything else. I just need to know if this is normal or should i just be able to go right back into dosflash and erase and write. I am ready to flash the drive but since i have to erase the flash first I am afraid that when i have to power cycle the drive again to write the new firmware it wont come back ( if a have too, or does the erase not make the 360 flash).
I see no mention of having to redo the power cycle sequence each time you do something to the drive. I am using dosflash16 on a via pci card.
If anyone who has done a drive can tell me if their 360 was flashing after the read or if they had to redo the on off sequence, and if after the erase they could just write the firmware without having to do the on off thing agian.

I hate to be a bearer of bad news but i believe you didn't make a backup up your firmware!!!! I hope you did because it seems like your flash was bad!!! You need to re-vert back to original firmware!!!!
Your going to need to re-do the ixtreme firmware by using your original creating a brand new fresh benq-ix.bin file and re-trace your steps to flash again!!!!
The good thing is that you followed the tut to get drive recognized, i just hope you did a back-up of original firmware!!!!

I just got some questions about the turning on and off of the XBOX360 in my experience.
-> Between the ERASE and the WRITE, I did not have to turn of the power, I just ran the commands after each other without rebooting the console OR PC.

You do not have to reboot if you use this tutorial.
But my harddrive is SATA too, and I did not want to have any hardware connected to my SATA, so that's why I needed to create a bootdisk, go back to windows, to copy the key to the 'iXtreme firmware' and then reboot and go back to DOS.
So the only reason I rebooted was because I had to copy the key to the 'hacked' firmware.
@BALLIN5
I hope you created a backup first? ('r' in dosflash.exe)
Else I think you might have a problem. You need the original firmware to get the key, so the XBOX360 hardware knows that you dvd-drive is 'legit'
These are very important steps which MUST be done to proceed:
1. Backup original firmware
2. Copy key from original to 'hacked' firmware
3. Write 'hacked' firmware.

i have a dell dimention 3100, onboard sata disabled.
I have the VIA SATA VT 6421L card, with my HD on one channel, and the benq on the other. I boot using IDE cd rom with an NTFS for DOS boot cd. the benq drive is off to begin with, otherwise it wont get past the sata boot screen.
once booted up, type YES at NTFS prompt, then navigate to Dosflash, run dosflash with this:
dosflash r d870 1 a0 1 4 c:\backup.bin 0
It promtps me to resend the command, i hit Y, then i turn on the benq drive. it starts swticing between D1 and 51, i power down benq, then power up benq again, and it goes to x73, and says:
Reading Bank 0....
then it sits there eternally.
Anybody have any clue? im going insane, and i've tried many things over a span of 6 hours now. If i boot into winxp, i can get the same thing to happen with dosflash32, but it hangs on reading bank 0.
I know I'm using the right address hex, it is the specific hex of that port on the via card.
any thoughts?

I'm not sure if it works, but I should try to connect the Benq ONLY to your SATA controller, so you have to create a bootdisk and not use the NTFSDOS CD-ROM. I have had problems while the HDD was still connected to the other SATA port.
Are you sure you disabled BOOTROM for SATA in BIOS, sometimes you need to do this for the VIA chipset?

I keep getting unknown flash chip after typing "dosflash" and selecting my drive as well. Any idea what I should do to get it working?
Also, I was typing dosflash r XXXX 1 a0 1 4 orig.bin without the 0 at the end - is the 0 needed, and what does it do? Using a VIA 6421 card.
-
After flashing the BenQ to another firmware, what precautions do you have to take when playing XBox live? Such as an update for the XBox, an update to play the game? Does the original firmware have to be flashed back into the BenQ to install a Microsoft update? Thanks.
And has anyone used the Blaster 360 or Xeno Top Gear with a BenQ?

Go buy a new xbox. Since you overwrote your only copy of the original firmware, there is no retrieving it now. Your 360 will not play 360 media without the drive key.

Cheers,
-pikah

^good question..
-also do you think the VIA PCI card I ordered (one from Newegg that many people use) will work with my Dell Dimension 2350 older PC...it has the retail motherboard with the Intel 82845G/GL/PE/GV/E chipset it says in Device Mgr.
-
thanks this worked great just got done modding my first benq went real well as long as you do the right typing your good thanks

Hey. Im quite new to this flashing. Been flashing my old hitachi v47 many times using a xeno topgear. I was wondering how this drive go to mode-b or it even needs to? I have to use a connectivity kit to connect the drive to my computer? Im a little confused. Sorry.
-
Jie,
no it doesn't have to go into mode b (that's for the hitachi's)
just get a bootdisk with dosflash, the firmware, and firmtool on it, and you are golden.
the hard part is to have your computer read/write to the drive without interference.
and that all depends on what kind of chipset and sata/ide controllers you have.
i have a ICH8 and a via 6421a card, and i didn't have to disable any on-board sata/ide.
while most other people with other chipsets do, and people with nforce can do it with their onboard!
so it really depends on what you have to work with.
and you will need a power source for that benq drive that is not connected with your computer (unless you have a switch?) as you will need to power on/off the benq, most people just use the xbox360 to power it.
-
I got my drive flashed after quit a while. I posted a page back that my drive would not respond after i gave it the read command it dosflash16, so I didnt want send the erase command to it and mess it up. I was using a via 6421a pci card on an old asus a7n8x MB, after seeing all the success people were having with dosflash32 I decided to turn off all my drives on my a8nsli deluxe board and use its onboard sata. The only thing i left enabled was the sil raid setup for my os drives.
I booted into Vista ran dosflash32 as administrator, dosflash said it was disabling something but i cant remember the exact message ( i believe it has to do with disabling any other drives so it doesn't mess with the flash process). I then asked it i wanted to retry until the drive responded, i selected yes, powered the drive on waited a few seconds, powered it off then back on and the dosflash window popped up and allowed me to read the flash, i compared the key it gave me to the key i got from dosflash16 last night and the keys were the same so i felt I had a good read.
I already had the new firmware made per the instructions that it came with. I then selected the write option and browsed to my new firmware, dosflash erased the firmware and then flashed the new. I then tested it and everything seems good, i played it for a few hours.
All this from one boot of the 360 and the pc, which i could not do in dosflash with the via card, my old nforce4 never fails me, I should of used it from the start.
I know there are others who can read there drive but can not issue more commands after the first read, I read all day but could not find out if this was normal.
Does anyone knows, if i would have sent the erase command in manual dosflash16 and then could not send the write command would the drive have been bricked?

After flashing the BenQ to another firmware, what precautions do you have to take when playing XBox live? Such as an update for the XBox, an update to play the game? Does the original firmware have to be flashed back into the BenQ to install a Microsoft update? Thanks.
And has anyone used the Blaster 360 or Xeno Top Gear with a BenQ?
Yes, I used a 360 Blaster with Hitachi fix(not NE) and was able to read my firmware.

OK i got a Intel Motherboard....and i do everything and i get to the part where it says (DOSFLASH by Kai Schtrom,10.09.2007 Ver,1.2 Beta) and thats it, I turn the 360 on and off and nothing it just stays there....i think the chipset doesnt wanna read the firmware...So i ordered the VIA card from newegg...
I just have a question....
Does dosflash give you an option to backup your orginal firmware? and someone should really post exact direction to what and how they did it step by step..MANHUNT did a good job but someone needs to be more detailed...step by step...he kind of wonders off at the end of the tutorial..I hope im not gonna be the one that posts that turtorial...Someone get to it before me, i get my sata card on friday....
thanx guys keep up the good work.

R = Read Flash W= Write Flash E= Erase Flash
R means readit and save it to whatever and that is your backup.

-Turn on my xbox
-press on dosflash
-got that failed msg so I press yes
-Turn off my 360 and wait few secs and turn it on...
And than nothing happens...
I 1 time rebooted and pressed NO, and I could see there the xbox360 drive but could not read/write or anything because MTK failed.
I have no idea what to do sad.gif
I tried that tutorial with ntfs4dos etc... but that doesn't work either, but I can see the drive sad.gif
please help me.
my chipset: GIGABYTE GBB36X Controller
PS. I have also INTEL ICH9 2 port SERIAL ATA STORAGE CONTROLLER 2 that works via iPrep, and PORT 1 doesn't work...
-
ok, since nothing happens, can anyone give me the command in dosflash for it to try to read the firmware? it would be greatly appreciated.......i wanna know if my intel could read that crap? so if anyone could give me the read and write commands that would be great.
-
read the dosflash readme. all commands are in there.

Hello! Yesterday a friend of mine tried to flash my benq drive but couldn't do it.
He did everything on an ich7 chipset. He managed to back-up my orig.bin including the drive key, using the switch method.
He created benq-ix.bin. After a long time getting "wrong drive status" he managed to write the new benq-ix.bin on the drive. Write was succesfull.
But when we tested the console, the games are not working (original or backup), the only thing that works are dvd movies. Please HELP ME! What went wrong?
I was thinking that the drive and ixtreme firmware was ok, because the dvd movies are working.
Anyone got a clue? THANK YOU A LOT!
Oh, my console is US made, ntsc.
Thank You Again!

did you check the dumped firmware in toolbox to see if a key was found?
Playing movie dvd's and NO games looks like there is a corrupt key in the firmware. check if you have the key by loading the firmware in toolbox 4.5!!!
If the is screwed (like all 7's) you've just screwed your xbox!
-
Just to add, I managed to flash my Benq with an ASROCK 939 Dual SATA 2 board with JMICRON chipset.
I followed dosflash 1.3 tutorial for NVID chipset and it worked flawlessly. I must however stress you use DOSFLASH 1.3 (dosflash 16 of usb bootable) and not previous versions or you will never get the re send command, that initially screwed me up.
Props to all concerned on a great piece of work, and Santa you can forget that bike I was after

Ok. I checked my key using toolbox, and the key is perfect. This is my orig.bin key "904CB0E094004006E4F0A37404F0904C"
I checked the generated ixtreme firmware, and i got this key inside the ixtreme fw "9F904C8DE09E40A802A686904CD4E078"
What is wrong? Why i have diferent keys between the original and the generated ixtreme? Is something wrong with the generator, or is something else?

try to create a new ixtreme with the included cmd file and see if it makes a difference.
Did you by chance dumped the original firmware twice? If so, see if there's a difference between them

I tried to create the ixtreme with the included "make ixtreme firmware" file, and it gives me the same different key. We dumped the original fw couple of times but we retrieved the same key all the time. We tried to write the drive 5-6 times with ixtreme , write was succesfull but same result, no games only movies.
I uploaded the orig.bin and the generated benq-ix.bin maybe you guys can take a look at it.

I'm at work now, and i don't have the tools to check it here. I'll be home very late tonight since i have some presentations to give tonight.
I'll check it when i'm home (if no-one else has done this by that time)
I thought there was a bug in firmware toolbox concerning benq firmware, but i don't know this for sure.
When you create the ixtreme firmware with the command, there's a status screen at the end with the copied key and so.
Are those keys the same?
And did you also try to flash the original back again to see if original games work after flashing it back to original??

We flashed back the orig.bin back but with the same result. I think we got the key but the orig fw is bad, there is anyway we can find the original firmware somewere so we can put the key in and restore it to it's original state?

Neither of the keys are correct. You have a very different looking firmware from all the others that i had looked at when writing the app. So, either you have a partially bad dump (which i dont know, all the versions strings and serial exist in correct locations) or it just another fw revision. I'm surprised that this is the first we've had an issue if this other fw exists out in the wild. I will patch your benq-ix.bin and PM you with a link. I'll have to make a 'firmtool' revision with additional checks to avoid this issue.

His firmware is structured differently and the checks that firmtool does and 360fwtb found a 'false' key location. It met the criteria of both of our checks
So, if it works (which it should), i'll revise the firmtool code with an additional check to ensure that this issue doesnt come up again. Then i'll have the iXtreme package revised with the new firmtool.

Awesome sounds good..
Quick question: if you dump/read your original firmware, and look at the key in Toolbox 4.5, and then you use the cmd command to make the new iXtreme FW from that original, and then look at that new FW's key in Toolbox... as long as it's the same as the original FW's key that you just looked it, then it should work fine after flashed, right?
-
I am having a wacky issue in which the Flash went good , the firmware keys match and i flashed benq-ix.bin to my drive. my originals play but my backups do not. Could it be when i did my backups that i did
the no video partition method or i believe it's blank video partition.
any help would be appreciated.

If it is not asking me the MTK question, is it safe to assume it is not detecting my drive for some reason, or am I doing something wrong? I have the correct CC00 value and everything too.

Not in the above case. Both firmtool and 360 Firmware Toolbox were finding and would copy the wrong key. If the rest of the firmware is valid, but you get an issue playing originals, then i would check the firmware by hand, in hex. The above issue wouldnt have been found unless you looked in hex, no matter what firmware application you tried.

Didn't you mean a:\orig.bin? Also think about the fact that the port "000d" is just One of the two SATA-ports on your motherboard, the other one has a whole other port. And are you doing it in this sequence..?
type the dosflash16 command
answer yes on the question and get a "0x7F" status
turn on the 360 and wait for the status to start changing inbetween 0x51 and 0xD1
turn off the 360, the status'll stop at 0xD1
wait 2 seconds (I counted to three slowly) and turn the 360 on, and it'll start reading
...Did you do it like this?

xdvdmulleter can check the backups as well straight off the discs if I remember correctly. give that a try if you don't have the images anymore.

Everything is working perfect.
Good - i'll have an updated firmtool by next Tuesday - going away this weekend, sorry guys. However, alinush is the only user i know of that has had this issue, so it doesnt seem to be very common.

this really was easy with your help,,,I've done 5 now
the only thing you should change is your info on how to make the dos floppy....you don't say anything about boot98 so your floppy will load

I used dosflash32 in windows XP and it was succesful. Via VT6421A drivers were NOT installed. Used port nearest power button. Found port number under Storage>SCSI in Msinfo32 when the drivers were installed (not present when no drivers installed). Just followed instructions in the BenQ firmware download. Took 3 minutes. Did not disable sata or ide in bios (which some posts suggest).
However, I'm noticing some strange behaviour with the firmware. It will sometimes load games fine and other times report that the disc is unreadable. I'm not using verbatims so I will get hold of some to see if that is the problem. These were read perfectly well though with Stealth 5.2. Also the load speed does not seem to be as fast and video/gameplay keeps jittering which also didn't happen. I'm using the Fast firmware.
Anyone else having this problem?

type the dosflash16 command
answer yes on the question and get a "0x7F" status
turn on the 360 and wait for the status to start changing inbetween 0x51 and 0xD1
turn off the 360, the status'll stop at 0xD1
wait 2 seconds (I counted to three slowly) and turn the 360 on, and it'll start reading
...Did you do it like this?
I tried this but mine continues to change between 0x51 and 0xD1 but never starts reading what am I donig wrong.

I'm lost, I've spent well over 24hrs on tryin various ways to get my benq to work and 4 different computer systems using sata/ata controller. I can get into dos using USB and floppy and got to read the benq and then reboot system into windows; now I'm to using Benq iXtremev1.1, every time I use "Make iXtreme firmware" it says "No valid version found in orig.bin!!! Program aborted." Can anyone help me with this, I've tried searching many of pages and Haven't found a good answer for this problem.... btw I'm using the noob tutorial walkthrough on this. Thanks in advance.

Are you sure that orig.bin is in the same directory as the .bat file?
Are you sure you created a good backup of your current firmware?
Are you sure that you didn't write any other firmware to your XBOX and maybe read it again and overwrote the orig.bin?
Just the overall question, are you absolutely sure that orig.bin is really the original firmware from the drive when the XBOX was shipped to you.

No valid version means just that, no valid version.
Firmtool supports the following drive versions for your original firmware source:
Hitachi: v40,v46,v47,v59,v78,v79
Samsung: ms21, ms25, ms28
Benq: Any version from 60001-69999
So, unless the top of your benq drive has a FW revision that doesnt meet that criteria, or it has a different orientation than other BenQ version strings, then i'd say its a bad dump.
Here is a link for verifying your BenQ firmware using a hex editor. If firmtool doesnt work, i would recommend trying this, and/or loading it with 360 Firmware Toolbox and see if it is recognized. If it is, send me a PM because i want to see your orig.bin.

got it to work! thanks for the help caster, i tried that hex editor and it made me feel really retarded starring at those numbers... so originally i started this on my brothers computer with his help but we couldn't get it to work on his system so thats when i tried it on my own and had no success, well since what you said about ixtreme made me think that i didnt have the original copy of the orig.bin file on my comp system so i got it from my brother and asked if it worked with ixtreme on his and it did, so i just erased then write and tried it and it worked =P guess in other words it took two different systems. thanks though everyone.

Is the VIA sata card the only way to get your BenQ drive recognized in Windows? My previous 360 had a Hitachi reader and I used the Connectivity kit to flash that. Can I use the kit for the BenQ as well or do I need to buy a VIA card?
-
Disregard my previous post, can't seem to edit it. Will any VIA card or does it have to be a specific card?
Will this do?

Yes that will do. You're looking for the VIA 6421/6420 chip on the board...that one has it.

If you are experiencing errors it is because you are suppose to re-send MTK and then shut off your 360 then turn it back on.
Also once again I will be updating this its just hard cause I already modded my BenQ.
What do u mean by resend mtk? i feel like a total noob
MTK Vendor intro failed
anyone now wth this means?

Ive been searching this forum several times and still wondering. I have a Dell pc w/ serial ata controllers ICH7. Does this mean I still need to purchase a VIA controller? This overwelming amount of infomation gets confusing sometimes.

Not to nitpick but if I was you I would make a new thread with a very detailed guide for every step... Try to keep as simple and specific as possible like don't use the word root and make the pictures higher res. I think I know what the root of the HD is but it's always better to make the guide as though you would to a little child... As some of the noobs, like me, are slow and tend to fuck things up.... But this is a great guide

QUOTE(smakusdod @ Oct 30 2007, 09:54 AM)

i have a dell dimention 3100, onboard sata disabled.
I am having the same problem, do i just have to give up on my chip set?
