You no longer have to have a key to upgrade the firmware.

This is old news.

Flashing your firmware is still better and easier.

With this mod if you do not get the drive key off your drive then if the drive dies or the chip kills the drive you are shit out of luck if you ever need to replace it.

So this mod requires that the firmware on the drive still have the key in it?  The description of this product claims that you do not need to get the key from the drive.  That must mean that they assume it stays there.  I totally misunderstood the purpose of the chip.  thanks for the info
