[16:24] <@c4eva> benq ixtreme is COMPLETE!
[16:26] <NDT3> c4, i heard that spoofed drives will be busted, do u confim this?
[16:53] <@c4eva> Benq fw reports capacity of game discs as $7fffffff, this will make any spoofed drive detectable, as they will report back correct capacity
[16:55] <dejesus> so what does that mean? did you fix that or is that work in progress?
[16:55] <NDT3> i don't think he can fix it
[16:55] <@c4eva> if i fix it , it will be detectable
[16:56] <@caster420> they can check server side, so he can't fix it
[16:56] <NDT3> cause samsung and hitachi would return the correct value
[16:56] <dejesus> so translation.. no flashed benq on xbox live?
[16:56] <@caster420> no
[16:56] <@caster420> translation = no using benqs in non-benq 360's
[16:56] <NDT3> no flashed hitachi or samsun as a benq on live
[16:56] <@caster420> so you can't use it in place of a samsung or a hitachi
[16:56] <fryfrog> ah, the other way around?
[16:57] <@caster420> either or
[16:57] <@caster420> if you spoof a sammy to a benq, the 360 will think it has a benq but it wont report the correct size
[16:58] <@c4eva> Benq ixtreme leaves it unchanged, all safe
[16:58] <[TONE]> benq = no spoofing
[16:58] <@caster420>
[16:58] <@caster420> well, that makes my job easier
[16:58] <Zheez> I've got a benq in one of my 360s that originally had a samsung
[16:58] <V|PER> so bascaly use the ben fw on a benq
[16:58] <V|PER> dont swap the benq drive into a system that didnt have a benq
[16:58] <V|PER> or dont swap a sammy into a benq system
[16:59] <@caster420> or a drive into a benq system
[16:59] <@caster420> correct
That is bad news for everybody who already spoofed....

I wouldn't go on Live until BenQ iXtreme debuts, but I think for offline play it shouldn't be an issue.
QUOTE(caster420 @ Sep 19 2007, 11:23 AM)

People use spoofed drive all the time. Currently this is not an issue but it could potentially be. That being said, there is no difference between a spoofed retail firmware and a spoofed hacked firmware. So, either you use a spoofed drive, or you dont - no need to wait for firmware.
Caster.
The need to wait for firmware was exactly to avoid something like this. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
-
Yep, it will cause a ban, just like every other modification that is known to 100% cause a ban.
-
To quote myself, "Currently this is not an issue but it could potentially be". This isnt a new issue, as i have already stated numerous times Toddler. This arguement was over the version strings in the firmware and it working. Again, to quote myself, "That being said, there is no difference between a spoofed retail firmware and a spoofed hacked firmware.". There isnt a difference. The hitachis spoofed as samsung could be detected and samsungs spoofed as hitachis could be detected already because of different drive responses to different requests. It has always been stated that this COULD be an issue.
Caster.

That makes me feel a little better. Thanks for clearing that up Caster.

The entire point was whether people with BenQ drives would be wise to wait for iXtreme instead of spoofing. Your "there's no need to wait for firmware" was bad advice, plain and simple.
I feel sorry for everyone who went ahead with spoofing thinking there was "no need to wait" for firmware.

i have a sammy 28 in my halo(benq) system. i went online only with a realy disc(i never go on with a burned just on princaple. am i going to get banned. i am just waiting for ixtreme benq then its back to my benq(it is a better drive to begin with. my sammy killed my real madden. You're going to get banned. The question is not if, but when. Trying to "stay unbanned" is a battle you're only going to lose. You knew coming into this that you were likely to lose your XBL access.
There are so many unknowns it is unfair to "blame" anyone for advice given months ago. The hacking and discovery is an ongoing process that you have chosen to use the byproduct of. Again, you knew what you were getting into.
Enjoy your modded system and all the benefits that come with it. If you highly value playing online, pick up a cheap used box and use your legit games. Thats all there is to it.

I stated that if people have already decided that they are going to spoof their drives, go a head. I dont make their decisions and people dont have to read/follow my posts - I simply stated my point of view. With using modified firmware there is always a potential risk and if you dont want to accept that, then dont flash your drive. Even with iXtreme firmware, you could potentially be detected. I also stated in those posts that people are still spoofing hitachi's as samsungs are vice versa, and that they could potentially be detected and/or banned.

thank you caster.
i only went on 2 times maybe i got lucky. i will wait till benq iextreme befor i trie again.
any idea when c4eva will release if its completed.
thank you everyone.
-
yeah this was obvious that they could get banned anybody who reads anything in this section knows the risks its a chance you take but honestly getting banned from live isnt the end of the world.. You could always put your Benq back in when new F/W is released unless you got rid which would have been a silly thing to do.. At the end of the day no flash is perfect and flawless MS will catch them all eventually (if they can be bothered) but being banned from live really aint the end of the world it only removes online element you can still play your copys offline..

I spoofed my Sammy yesterday and only played 1 hour of Halo3 while connected to Live. After i heard this news i am not going to connect to Live until the BenQ fw is out.
Just a thought, Microsoft may be already swapping out drives while they are in repair so maybe its something they cannot check?

they dont just swap out drives you usually get a differnt console when you send yours in rather than a repair which makes me wonder why it takes upto 30 days..

My Xbox was repaired about a month ago, they swapped my sammy drive for a benq and replaced the motherboard. I know it's the same Xbox I sent in, because the serials match..

This is what i am talking about. There is a GOOD chance that MS are spoofing the drives themselves to work in other machines. I really don't think this is much of a threat now but i may be wrong.
Yes i am sure they can detect it, but people who have sent their 360 in for repair got the drive swapped for say a BenQ drive, that would have to be spoofed yes? Somne got their motherboard swapped out, but other just got it repair with a new BenQ drive installed.
This news doesn't seems so bad after all really but i guess we will find out.
-
well he did say they swapped the mobo so I doubt there gonna spoof their own consoles if the drive needs changing they will change the mobo too but a new mobo and dvd drive? that aint your system mate its a replacement in your old case
-
I agree, if it's a new mobo then the drives are not spoofed.
I just read the news today and i hope i'm not screwed. Just finished spoofing a sammy as a benq on my new elite. I put the benq back in yesterday and was on live. I was only testing the sammy to make sure it was working as a spoofed drive. I hope that don't get me banned. I'm lucky i swapped it back out last night before any more damage could be done. Buy hey... if i'm flagged...oh well. Time to start over, lol.

I really doubt Microsoft has to resort to spoofing firmware to make a different DVD drive work on a motherboard...

you should be safe MS dont log things like that then ban you later if they catch you its instant ban they dont just wait for a while so if your benqs back in and lives working your safe.
-
Well that's goods news. I'm on live now, just wanted to see if i was banned. I'll just wait for ixtreme for the benq. It's worth the wait.

<c4eva> by the way, capacity on benq is all ok, seemed to be bug in using my VIA, so spoofers are ok, correct capacity is returned

So, disregard the previous comment about not being able to spoof (IMG:

Great news, there! Many of us will be greatly relieved, I'm sure.

Hi everyone.
I have a 360 with a Benq drive and another 360 with a Hitachi 47.
The Hitachi 47 is already flashed with some old version of Xtreme firmware and problem is that I don't have the original firmware for the Hitachi, only the modded one that's on there.
What I'd like to do is to have the Hitachi in the Benq console.
Anyway to do this and have the "new" iXtreme 1.2 on there?
I've searched for an hour or so and didn't find any usefull info.
PS: I don't care if it's Live-safe or not.
Thanks in advance.
/Chris.

1.) you don't need the hitachi's original firmware if your going to spoof a hitachi as a Benq.
2.) You can still easily get your hitachi's drive key or firmware by reading it.
3.) If you want the hitachi to replace your benq, you must flash the hitachi with iXtreme_Hitachi_1.2_rev2 and insert the Benq drive key and then spoof.
-
Sorry for digging up such an old thread, but, is this still an issue anymore? I spoofed my BenQ to a Sammy ms28 today because my BenQ was giving me issues, and they suck at reading backups (slow load times).
Thanks.
