Title: Ms25 Drive Help
Post by: Mitch111788 on October 09, 2007, 12:47:00 PM
well i have a 360 with an ms25 drive in it so i decided i want to mod it seeing as how my motherboard is supported. i read tutorials and printed off the correct section of textbooks guide to read while i was flashing. i made my bootable USB with iprep with what i thought was the correct firmware (iXtream_samsung_v1.2 RevC) and after trying a few sata ports MTKflash found my 360 and made a backup of my original firmware. i then rebooted and attempted to flash it with the hacked firmware. it flashed and MTKflash said it was fine. plug it back into my xbox and i get a red light on the bottom right with no error on screen and code 1002 with the sync/eject button trick. i find that the newer MS25s require a special firmware that doesnt spoof to ms28 or something like that. damn. however i find a way to revive my drive! i try to follow this (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=514936 ) tutorial and after many reboots it detects my drive and i proceed to get the original firmware on. however it never flashs. just hangs at "Port: d800, Master/Slave: a0" or something. now i cannot get mtkflash to see the drive at all and if i try and boot up my PC with it plugged in it just hangs when trying to detect any SATA drives and never even gets to MTKflash. even if i plug it in after i boot into MTKflash it doesnt see it. someone please help. i just spent $35 on a 20 pack of Verbatiam DVD+R DLs! (probably should have bought them after a succesful flash but newegg had free express shipping lol)

You did insert your drive key into the ixtreme firmware, didn't you?  From what you've said, it sounds like you prepped the new firmware BEFORE you'd backed up your original.  If that is what you've done, then you need to extract your drive key from the original firmware, insert it into the new firmware, and then flash that to the drive.

If you're having problems flashing, it's mostly probably due to the firmguard in the new firmware.  Either burn an 0800 enable disc, or use the 10 second trick.  All of this stuff is well covered in the tutorials.  Just make sure you read them properly this time.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

i didnt read that part in the textbook tutorial but i guess thats what i have to do. what firmware would you suggest for me? i dont want to use xbox LIVE (have a 2nd 360 for that) and i have read that some MS25s dont like the MS28 firmware so i want to make sure that i get one that will work on all MS25s. thanks!

EDIT: what exactly is the 10 second trick. i searched yesterday when i read about it but all i found was people telling others to use it but never WHAT it is or HOW to do it.

EDIT2: nvm. found it. i dont have a VIA chipset so i guess i have to wait for my DL DVDs to get here today and make a 0800 enable disc. damn kinda a waste of a DVD (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

No...  Xtreme fw since like v3 (and all iXtreme fw) is been based off of ms28 firmware and has been flashed to all kinds of ms25 drives.  You can spoof the firmware to report as a ms25 or you can leave it reporting as a ms28, as it is typically fine to 'upgrade' your drive version.

Caster.

well i tried hooking it up to my PC again just to see if i could get it detected in my PC and i found out how to get it detected and my BIOS reports it as an MS28 so i guess the missing drive key is the problem. however shouldnt it still boot up just not play games?

sorry for the double post but i got my DL DVDs and the 0800 enable disc worked like a charm! however the flash with the fixed firmware did not. gave the same error. now i have it flashed with the stock firmware and its working fine. what other firmware would you guys recommend for an MS25 that wont get on LIVE?

Dude, I just flashed my MS25 with the latest xtreme using iPrep, a boot disc and my Sata (which I didn't think would work so ordered a new card then found mine does work so have a Sata card on its way which I dont need damnit) flawlessly.

I would suggest using iPrep to anyone and just following the instructions given with it (if you have your head screwed on that is).

Edit: Damn, didn't see the second post, glad to see you sorted it now.

Rich you may need that sata card later on if you need to upgrade. I am presumin its a via 6421 which is the only card that's compatible with the 10 second trick. The firmware on your drive now is based on the 28 so it has firmgaurd.

I thought I might do, besides it's got an external sata port which will save opening the PC and it means I can run more HDDs for that storage which I need in the PC so I wasn't intending on sending it back anyway. I think it's the 6421 (the details said it works for flashing the 360's drive anyway so I really hope it is). That PC is having an overhaul soon anyway, take vista off, put xp on, put samsung dvd rom in and pioneer dvd rw in... it knows it's purpose (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Cheers for the info though. All info which comes my way is always very much appreciated.

i did use iPrep. i tried flashing it 5 times with the 1.2 firmware and it would not work (redownloaded and reinserted original key and everything). no MS28 based firmware would. only the one that was ms25 based would work. i did some searching and it seems that some ms25s dont like the ms28 firmware.

no you just need to make an 0800 enable disc. only on the original ms28s do you need the VIA chipset. when i used an ms28 firmware all i had to do was pop in a 0800 enable disc and my PC could flash it (nforce4 chipset)
