Xecuter Blaster360 Update and Install Preview Posted by XanTium | February 2 12:54 EST
We've been crazy busy since our last update on the Blaster360. After many many more tests we feel we finally nailed the problem regarding dumping game data. I think I will ship a number of samples out to the scene to get some hardcore feedback as I'd like it tested on multiple systems.
To give you an insight as to how complex this easy sounding product actually is, I will list some tech info of the internal switch controller that we feel finally solved the problems.
We have utilized a Serial ATA multiplexer and buffer that implements 2:1 failover switch function for 1.5Gbps and 3.0Gbps links. This function is used when dual hosts, such as I/O controllers, must access single-port disk drives in high availability storage subsystems where redundancy and load sharing are important. The outputs from the I/O controllers are multiplexed to the Xbox 360 Serial ATA ODD (Optical Disk Drive). The output from the ODD is then buffered and replicated to the I/O controller. When switching from one I/O controller to the other, a Serial ATA link must be reinitialized with out-of-band (OOB) signals, which are transferred through the Serial ATA multiplexer transparently. The Blaster360 internal switch provides high output swings with pre-emphasis, and programmable receiver sensitivity that are needed to drive long backplanes and external cables.
In addition the switch also supports a 1:2 port multiplier (link replicator) mode where one host can connect two drives.
Some of you will understand all that - the rest will be saying "wtf?"
Now a lot of you have asked how do you install the Blaster360 - and how is it possible to do so without cutting any metal or any part of the case. Here is a look for the very first time to see how its done
1. Fix the main Power Control Unit (PCU) to the underside of the ODD, and then plug the ODD power cable into the PCU. The red ODD power cable (labelled XB360) from the PCU then connects to the 360 motherboard. The 2x8 Pin header cable plugs into the Multiplex Switching Unit (MSU). 2. Install the supplied SATA cables (90 to 180 for XB360, 180 to 180 for ODD) as shown in the photo.
3. This is the part that everyone seems to be worried about. How do we connect the internal MSU to the external Blaster360 unit without cutting any part of the case. As you can see pretty simple (the MSU pictured here is the version we were using before we implemented the Multiplexer as described and pictured above)
As you can see we have put a LOT into this. It really is important for this kind of product to be as stable and as reliable as possible due to the fact that you will be flash updating your drives using this product as well as spending many hours backing up your originals. Im expecting some final prototypes on Monday and then I'll get some samples out to some of our testers next week to make sure everything is solid.
Thank you for your patience - we promise you won't be dissapointed.

Thanks, Team-Xecuter. Looks like a solid product. I'd rather wait an extra month or two for something like this to come out.
If you are taking additional beta-testers, I'm ready to open up my 360 and mod the drive. I've installed numerous X3s for various folks so I'm fairly handy with electronics.

Genius.
This part I'm lost on. What is popping out of the red circled vent holes? Is that what the outer part connects to the PCB board? Kind of hard to see.

well, the reasons have been discussed in great detail and progres reports have been posted many times. It's all there for you to read if you cared to.

once again I dont set the price - the retailers do. At $70 they've pre-sold a combined total of 30k units so someone out there thinks its worth it. There will always be products that someone thinks is too expensive or someone has absolutley no need for. That's fine, I have hundreds of thousandsof users who like one product I do and hate another - thats the beauty of a free market.
Please, if you can manufacturer this cheaper then I will buy from you.

Its not a hack. Use the search button on these forums or goto www.team-xecuter.com and read about the Blaster360.

They're using 2x2 headers to go through the holes.. Pretty innovative

Bleh, I'd rather install an external SATA port myself...just don't like having that big buldge on the front of the box.
Still a nice product, though.

What about covering some of the air holes that are in front of the hdd. I don't like that idea one bit.
Be sure to take some temps before and after the install.
Other than that it looks good and very OEM.

Nice. So the multiplexer's bandwidth is 3.0Gbps or higher and it has automatic failover?

For those who asked what it was, it allows you to flash your firmware without ever having to open up your 360 again. Pretty cool stuff, well worth it.

Very nice, Team Xecuter. You have done a very good job at modding the hell out of the DVD-ROM drive of the Xbox 360. Now, when are you going to start to mod the Xbox 360 itself?

My friend has flashed his samsung 6 times already - xtreme 3.3 ,4.1 ,4.2 ,then 5.0, 5.1 and finally 5.2 and its a pain in the ass having to disassemble the damn thing every time a new firmware comes out.
True if you have a hitachi drive you only need to flash it once seeing as other than slightly better media detection by maximus and firmware stealthing, nothing much has seemed to change in GaryOPA's firmware since the 2.1 version and the last release 2.3 v 2 was quite a while back.
It still does not use stealth media features, does not run single layer (xbox1) dvd's, has no variable speed firmware, no disc lock-on, no open tray fixes, no firm-guard (although it does have some kind of stealthy option) whereas every samsung firmware adds something new to the mix.
People with PC DVD drives that have Kreons firmware will probably only ever use this device for flashing their 360, in which case it's a lifesaver for samsungs but for Hitachi's its a waste of money.
On the other hand it is useful for both hitachi and samsung drive owners for ripping original games to the PC if they haven't got a PC DVD drive that has Kreons firmware on it. Otherwise they would have to disassemble the 360 each time they get a new original game.

In all honesty that area of dev has been pretty stagnent - until last week. I'm proud to say a discovery was made by a freind of ours (and the scenes) but not by any one of our (Xecuters) pretty cool stuff. You should know where to look.

Ermm. Is that an FCC ribbon cable? after all the fiasco from the x2 series LPT flashing, they haven't learned? grrr I hate those. and as for the 2x2 headers, looks like we may end up with people inserting them in the wrong order possibly, or maybe I'm just assuming, as there isn't a clear shot of how they connect? Maybe it's just me.
And about the 360 hacking, I'm fairly certain they're referring to the NAND reading that's been going on, for the 16mb (2MB) chip, that stores the southbridge instructions. Fairly similar to the tsop if I'm not mistaken?

Would this be any good to workaround a ms28 drive not seen in dos using via6421a chipset on a pci card???.
If so then count me in.....good work either way.

well i understood those pictures both clear enough, i was referring to the outside of the shielding, then i looked at the other pic (the one with the fcc ribbon ) and saw how they lined up.
It was 4am and i guess i didn't see the third picture
Anotther concern is right here: The case, is it supposed to look like that when it's all done? doesn't look like it's lining up quite proper.

I'm far from impressed with Xecuter this time around, they release products that are pretty much useless, because anyone with a chopstick and a torx screwdriver can open their console in under 5 minutes so whats the big deal?
Xecuter can't crack the 360, so they need more beer money so they are pushing this crap out of a nasty Taiwanese slave-labour factory.
if a company makes 5 great products, then 100 crap ones, you fanboys would still be praising them.

i would pay the 70 bucks if all i have to do is connect the wires once, and then be able to take the flasher on and off really easily... I havent flashed my 360 yet, and want to do so.. i dont know which drive i have, so i will have to look into that once i get home. if i have the only that constantly gets updates, i'll buy this. if i have the one that never gets updated, i'll just get my friend to flash it for me..

So since it doesn't come right out and say you can back up your originals in the product description on team executer's or divineo's web site, and even though I read it was delayed to perfect dumping for backing up originals
