Title: Problem Reflashing Ms25
Post by: PC_Arcade on January 06, 2007, 06:09:00 AM
I've got an MS25 with FW 4.0 on it, I'd like to upgrade to 5.2.
Using the same PC and controller (nforce4) that I used before I get the following :

When I turn the xbox on with no enable 0800disk and try to flash I get "Err 51 should be 70", which is correct
I then insert the enable0800 disk and wait ~10 seconds as per the readme, this time when I try to read / write the flash I get "Err 00 should be 70"

I've burnt 2 copies of the enable0800 disks on dual layer media and both behave in the same way, I'm pretty sure the problem isn't there

The first two flashes on this drive (1.0 then 4.0) worked perfectly using this PC, but I can't upgrade from 4.0.

Please help!!

So here's how i did it:
boot 0800disc inside the Xbox 360 then after 10secs or when it stops spinning eject the disc then power the pc, boot to dos then you write samorig then after flashing to the original firmware reboot everything, then boot to dos power the Xbox 360 then write samremod then it's all finished.

But first you have to use the same bootable USB key you had before, all you have to do is in the folder X(your usb drive key):\BACKUPS\First part serial Number\then second part of your serial Number is you have to delete a file called hacked, then in the new Firmware 5.2 create the one which is suitable for you then when it's done, rename it to xtreme.bin then copy it to (your (usb drive key):\SAMSUNG.

and you are done, sorry for the long talk through and good luck.

I think you're missing the point. I can't get MTKflash to read or write to the flash, I'm well aware of how MTKflash works and how to use it to flash the firmware, having done it twice before.

BUT I can't get it to work since "upgrading" to f/w 4.0 - I either get status 51 (locked with firmguard) or, after using the enable0800 disk Status 00 either way I can't get it to read or write to/from the flash (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I've read one post in which the person stated that they simply hit escape when the flash stalled, then cycled  the xbox drive power and retried getting it into mode b then retried the flash command (and repeat) a few times (ie without rebooting the computer) - eventually it worked for them....

Sorry, can't help from personal experience as I always use the bad-flash approach - works 100% of the time but you need the right hardware

what bad flash approach would that be? swapping an unlocked drive for this one?

Your Ms25 is now effectivley an MS28 since you flashed with Xtreme4.xx
You will need a VIA chipset to flash it with the bad flash recovery method.

Or you can do the VCC trick with your Nforce chipset but the VIA method is the safest

Sounds like you have the same problem I had when trying to reflash my drive.
I was doing everything correctly and it would just stop at the Error: 80 should be 70.

What seemed to work for me is to swap the SATA cable with another one.
