There are numerous topics going on about "how to flash a samsung". First of all, your sata chipset(can be onboard or pci card) must be compatible with samsung MS25 drives.Not all the sata chipsets are compatible with that drive.If you want to be %100 sure ,you can buy a via 6421 pci sata card.There are many ways to read the key and copy&paste but the way i do has never caused me any trouble.
To flash a samsung drive you need the following applications:
--Xtreme Boot Maker V.0.3.6 Click to Download
--Maximus Firmware Toolbox 2.0 Click to Download
--Xtreme Firmware Find it in the usual place.
Here we go :
We need to setup Xtreme Boot Maker.You can find it in the Start Menu>X-Projects.Run the program.

1-- Open your xtreme firmware(here i used 3.3 .The latest one is extreme 5.0 but i find v3.3 is good enough)
2-- Click "Use Custom Mtkflash and choose your sata controller.
3-- Hit "Detect ID -I/O"
4-- Click "Ms28 Bad Flash Compatibility" and "Apply Boke's Patch For Ms28 Drives"
5-- Choose your usb memory stick or floppy ( I recommend USB stick since floppy is not so stable everytime.It may come up with a bad sector and that may cause a bad flash.USB Stick is much less riskier)
6-- Click "Format and Make Bootable"
7-- Hit "Prepare Drive" .In about 10 seconds your usb stick or floppy is ready.
When you check your usb stick or floppy, you will see your hacked firmware in the "samsung" folder as "xtreme.bin".This binary is not ready to be flashed since we don't have our orig.bin to get the key.
Now,it's time to boot your PC from floppy or usb stick(for usb stick you need to set "boot from usb hard drive" in the bios menu.) .Plug your Xbox 360's Sata Cable to Pc's Sata Card or Onboard Sata Controller and leave it TURNED OFF".Reboot your PC and you will be in DOS Command Prompt.You can turn Xbox 360 on now.Type:

mtkflash r /m orig.bin
You will see some options.Choose your sata card and this will dump your original firmware as orig.bin. Now,take floppy or usb stick out and boot into Windows.
This time we will use Maximus Firmware Toolbox 2.0
Open Firmware Toolbox 2.0 and put your floppy or usb stick in the floppy drive or usb.

1--Open your orig.bin
2--Copy the key.Be sure you copy the whole key by right clicking and copy.
Close the Firmware Toolbox 2.0 and Reopen it.This time open floppy or usb stick\samsung\xtreme.bin and paste the key.You can hit "replace the key". To make sure, close and open firmware toolbox and xtreme.bin and see if your key is there.Simply put your xtreme.bin to the root of usb stick or floppy where mtkflash is located. Reboot PC. Boot into DOS and turn your 360 on. Type:

mtkflash w /m xtreme.bin
and hit enter.Choose your sata card again and finished. Don't forget to put 360's sata cable back to Samsung Drive.Check if everything went fine.
To Flash a ms28 is almost same.The only difference is to turn off 360 before choosing your sata card (right after mtkflash command) and wait for 10 sec(which is known as 10 sec trick ,turn it on. Timing is important and you may try for a couple of times for right timing.You need a via 6421 sata card for ms28.
This is the easiest way i do all the time.I never used sam...exe or kdx .Simply these 2 applications makes me sure i have the
correct key and correct mtkflash chosen. If you find easier way don't hesitate to post.

Nice, simple guide. I have been looking over all for xbox fimware hacks for the past 4 hours and this is the most clear. Though I am still have problems.
The MTKflash doesn't dectect my drive. I have tried (i think) every possible option.
When I use the Extreme Boot Maker, I follow the instructions you provided. I have an Intel® ICH8R/DO/DH SATA Raid Controller, which says it is compatible. I do have 2 options for controllers, the other being my SCSI/RAID Host Controller, which says is NOT compatible.
One thing that might be causing all my problems, is that I know the RAID is supposed to be set to native/IDE, but in my setup I only have a RAID option, or a auto-dectect RAID. No native/IDE. I think that is what my problem is.

%99 you are not able to flash your drive with that chipset since you can't disable RAID option(you can try "auto-detect raid" to see if that option is same as native mode.If there is no raid ,the controller might work as native/ide.Just a guess and worth trying)
I recommend you to buy a 6421 sata card.Cheap and problem free.
Yes there are all ms25 or ms28 and bad flash compatibility allows to to use 10 sec trick for via 6421 cards.Even if you have ms25 that will not cause any problem.

The only problem could be mtkflash won't flash.I don't think i waited exactly 10 seconds to flash.It could be 9 or 12 but around 10 is okay.

You better use mtkflash r /m orig.bin to backup your key.If anything happens to your drive ,you can buy a new drive and use your key.If you have your hacked.bin in your hand there is no problem.Keep it safe.

unkdunk- Are you using on on board sata, or pci. Do you have options to disable RAID completely? Where did you DL the samhack. The thing is I don't have a IDE on my motherboard, my computer is a 3 month old dualcore and doesn't have one.
Well, I just keep getting, cannot detect drive. I have turned the raid on and and switched to auto-detect. I have turned off all the sata, except the samsung one, tried turning them all on. Tried switching the xbox sata to a different plug. Tried with xbox on 1st, and with xbox off 1st. I have even attempted to hexedit the mtkflash to get it to read. frack!
When I tried to use the samhack from my boot disk, I got errors. hacked.bin doesn't exisit, cannot create.... i wonder if it's because I used the extreme book maker.
I do have a MS28, and I keep reading how it's not the same as the ms25. I think I am SOL because I don't have a IDE dvd/cd drive.
I haven't read much on ms28 success with the specs I got. Hey unkdunk, what type of specs do you have?

On the other hand , by applying Boke's patch you don't need to have a mtk compatible ide drive plugged.You may have some ide drives or not ,xtreme boot maker will handle that.
I'm not saying samread ,samhack etc. are not good for patching the key.In this method you see your own key and a good dump. Boot maker and firmware toolbox are good partners for that.

from the reading i have done ther is a way of testing before you read the firmware from an ms28,by hittin ESC after you hit the Enter button to read,it should give you a Status 51 Should be 80 if everything its fine,but i get a 70.
any ideas?

Thanks you need to buy a via 6421 sata card for flashing ms28.That's the only way if you don't want to desolder&solder the dvd drive.

I think it doesn't matter as far as you have an empty pci slot and running XP.

Yes you have to buy this one to flash ms28.You don't need samread if you want to follow this tutorial.Nobody did that without 6421 via software(you need to desolder&solder the dvd drive if you want to try with different chipsets which has no guaranty to work)

only VIA chipsets are supported for the 10 sec trick that is required to flash a ms28 no other chipset is supported

This post may help others that were in my situation , where MTKflash on its own couldnt read/write to my TS-H943 MS-25 Untouched drive.
I used Intel® 82801FB Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 2651 (SATA CHIPSET) from the drop down menu on Xtreme bootmaker 0.3.6.14 Alongside Xtreme 5.1a
my problem was i made myself a normal bootdisk in windows , copied mtkflash over and couldnt find my drive.
This program helped me loads! thankyou!

Right thanks. Your tut seems very easy to follow and i will have a go after i order a VIA card and a Torx10 screwdriver.
BTW, i have a Gigabyte DS4 motherboard with a intel chipset - SATA is controlled by ICHR8 so i am assuming it will not work without the VIA card?
Oh and by the way - when using xtreme fw 5.1 in xtreme bootmaker it gives "you have selected an unknown firmware would you like to download a firmware definition update?" - what should i do, yes or no#? if i click no it tells me to proceed with caution.

So even if it says that its fine and i should continue? because in the box where it shows the name of the firmware in bootmaker it shows something like "MD5:4u79grnfdg" etc.

i bought a Newlink 2-Port Serial-ATA PCI Card (1-Int / 1-Ext)) after reading that should work from the guide in http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=514944
after installing the card and starting xtreme boot maker i notice it says ALI SATA Card not anything about VIA at all. Is it recommended that i continue or get another card?
Btw, i got a samsung drive but havent checked if its ms25 or ms28 yet

I have followed the instructions in this thread to the letter and every time I select the drive I get the following error message:

I have tried every variation of unplugging, booting PC to command prompt, switching on 360, running mtkflash r /m orig.bin (also tired with /sata), switching 360 on or off, waiting 10 secs blah, blah
I am using a VIA SATA PCI card with a 6421A chipset ~ the 360 drive is recognised in Windows via the chipset utility program, see image below.
I have disabled all onboad SATA/IDE channels (no difference), I have an optical drive on the PCI card IDE channel, tried different SATA cables, tested PCI card independently, and reinstalled it a few times for good measure.

I have not tried editing mtkflash separately as I seem to have a few problems grasping the fundamentals of this process

I am having no luck dumping the flash from my samsung (not sure if its ms25 or ms28). The m/b is an asus p4c800-d with raid disabled in the bios.
The drives (2 ide and 2 sata) show up after running mtkflash but nothing happens when i try to read.
This m/b supposedly is compatible. I've been trying to figure this out for days and would rather do this myself than to pay somebody, especially if you'll be flashing more than once.
Lastly, will a 2-3ft sata cable cause any issues? I'm not really sure what the max run length is for these cables.

Maybe you connected your drive to primary slave. Why don't you check the 2nd option. Otherwise,your chipset might not be compatible. I used ich5 with ms25 which seems to be compatible(no success %0) , nforce 3(success 2 times %100) tried 6421a with more than 12 times for 8 xbox 360(%100 success)
@CaPtBlaCk is your card raid version of 6421? If so find a way to disable raid.
Turn pc on , boot into dos , turn 360 on , type mtkflash r /m orig.bin ,options come up , turn off 360 , choose the corresponding option , wait around 10 sec , turn 360 on . You can try different timing too.
@mc gusto why can't you see if it is ms25 or ms28? it's written on the dvd drive label.
ONE MORE THING: DON'T USE CONNECTIVITY KIT!!!! THAT MIGHT CAUSE SUCH TROUBLES!!!

unfortunately, I cannot see the drive label as the accessing via a cutout under the harddrive.
I'll js click off both boxes (ms 28/25).

I need some clarification on this bit. So your saying if you have a MS28 you need to do this:
do the mtkflash command
turn off the 360
select the via chipset
wait 10 seconds
turn the 360 on
that right?

I don't think croc clips are essential, they are just to ground the 360 and protect it from static charges. If your carful and don't touch anything inside apart from the drive, and place your 360 on a surface and not carpet you should be ok, atleast i think. Same applies with PC's..

Perhaps you can help me with some advice...
My DVD is a Samsung ms28 loaded with X5.1D, have been flashing successfully using your 10sec trick with VIA6421.
Now, I was flashing the X5.2 update but the write process stopped on the 2nd block at 22% and since then I'm not able to do anything with the ms28. 10sec trick no longer works.
Hooked another ms28 to test and it works fine with 10sec trick so I believe the problem is a bad flashing in my 1st ms28.
Any idea what I can try next before going for external programming?

yes, it's how i do.I'm using a simple via6421a sata card for it. I'm not using those crock clips because i have a long sata cable and 360 and pc don't touch each other.I'm using a thick book to put 360 on. You need to be careful about it.I empty everthing on my table(especially metal ones) and i don't touch 360 during the whole process.I only use power button to turn it on&off.
@hiros bad for you.I reflashed a samsung ms25 after the bad flash using nforce3 chipset. Does your dvd drive eject? if so you need to try enable0800 disc to reflash.If it doesn't eject and 10 sec trick doesn't work, it seems that your drive needs to be reprogrammed. If there is anybody knows how to do it for ms28 ,let us know.
@penfolduk your drive is physically ms25 so that you don't need 10 sec.However,for firmware above 4.0 you need to use enable0800 disc.

I finally broke down and purchased a VIA 6421A chipset SATA controller card (PCI) on eBay for $20 (including shipping). The first time I tried the method mentioned in this thread it worked like a charm. Talk about some positive feedback!!!
One note, you need to use the 10 second trick with the MS28 everytime you want to detect it, including when you read the original firmware (to get the key). I don't think that was mentioned for that portion.
Anyway, I'm very pleased with the Toshiba MS28 now that its flashed. Its a little quiter than the Hitachi, and it does a much better job at detecting media. I had 3 or 4 backups that the Hitachi just would not recognize, the Toshiba has no problems with them.
Btw, I used Xtreme Boot Maker, USB boot, flashed Xtreme 52c (dual speed/default fast).

Just to let you know that I could finally recover my bad flashed ms28 today!
Symptom:
- Had a bad flash on my ms28 when flashing X52D
- Flashing stopped at bank2 22%...
- 10sec method was no longer working
- eject tray was not working
How I could fix:
- No special trick but just perseverance with the 10sec method using VIA6421 chipset SATA...
- The procedure used was the same as 10sec method, but changed the timing slightly
- It worked when I power on the xbox360 DVD and simultaneously hit the keyboard to select VIA6421 port
- Had to try many times (>20) to get it wok but it paid off

@tantatium Yes there are lots of different ways to flash ms25 and this is one of them.Nforce 4 chipset works fine with ms25 and you can use this system.
@Hiros thanks for sharing and good you made it worked.Simultaneous hitting is a good hint for those whose drives are bricked somehow.

I guess this verifies 100% that my m/b is not compatible?
BTW, its an asus p4c800d, which works for others.

Xtreme boot maker recognized the card, but the problem is when I get to dos and turn on my 360 I wont recognized the card after I type the commands. But When I try with my onboard chip wich is a ICH5 it gets detected with dos but doesn't backup the original firmware

@gli7ch I believe it's fw related.Try downgrading to 4.2 .Most people solved their problems by up&downgrading their firmwares.
@scorpionking77 If the card is not setup correctly there are two optinos: either the card is causing some trouble or you need another computer.Try another computer and let's see if it's 6421 related or not.
@mc gusto could you give the correct model and version of the card -if possible- with a link?
@ryrules1 Is it raid one or just simple $10 card? If it's a raid one you should disable raid
@conners Did you try ENABLE0800 disc? That's what i can think of.

then you have to turn it off and from the second you press enter at the mtkflash read or write you need to start the 10 second countdown, if 10 seconds dosen't work then try 13

the only way to tell is to take the xbox apart and look on the sticker on top of the dvd drive with barcode on it.
and yes the ONLY way to flash the ms28 drive WITHOUT soldering/desoldering is to have the via chipset sata card (6421) otherwise you must do the vcc trick (removal of resistor install of switch) if you do this method I can help you with the steps once you do the soldering. If not wait for your sata card..and perform the 10 second trick.

here's where I screwed up. the tutorial said to replace the key. don't ask me why , but when I put in the key, I noticed a bunch of F's in the window. and I think I flashed that to my drive as the key.
"Close the Firmware Toolbox 2.0 and Reopen it.This time open floppy or usb stick\samsung\xtreme.bin and paste the key.You can hit "replace the key". To make sure, close and open firmware toolbox and xtreme.bin and see if your key is there.Simply put your xtreme.bin to the root of usb stick or floppy where mtkflash is located. Reboot PC. Boot into DOS and turn your 360 on. Type:
CODE " mtkflash w /m xtreme.bin"
and hit enter.Choose your sata card again and finished"
when I flashed the drive , all seemed to go well, but when it wouldn't play the games anymore , I went back over the steps I took. I tried replacing the key again, this time I'm sure I got it right.
however, when I try to flash the drive, I get this

@Tortuga2112 Why didn't you check your key? Those F's are not your key and i hope you didn't check your orig.bin and checked your hacked.bin . Try to open your orig.bin with fw toolbox and if you still see those F's i'm afraid you really screwed up.
If you flashed with fw 4.x and over you need to unlock the fw with enable0800 disc.Burn it to a dual layer(if it's 4.x) or single layer(if it's 5.x) connect your 360's sata to pc and put the disc and let it spin for 15 sec then take it out and go on with the flashing process.You can find enable0800.iso in the older fw folder(like 4.x or 3.x) .

I got it worked out. fortunately I didn't overwrite the original FW. so I went back a step and re entered the key .
at first it wouldn't flash , but I flashed the original FW back ( used the 10 second method)and then I used the new 5.2 fw and it went smoothly .
I'm now trying to flash my friend's samsung , its an ms 28 FW drive. I've dumped the original fw , but when trying to flash the new fw to the drive , I keep getting "failed to open input file " .
I've tried different timing(10 sec, 11 ,12 ,13 etc.) but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm going to try another floppy and see if it works.
I don't understand why it read the original fw fine but can't flash the new one. from what I've been reading , the command or file name might be typed incorrectly or something. but I did the exact same procedure for the ms 25 , and for the dumping of the fw from the ms 28.
have you had this error before? the posts that I read from guys with the same problem sometimes changed their timing (10 sec ,11 etc.)to solve it but I doubt that's going to work here.

Both have been done according to the instructions but for some reason my PC won't have it.
I set the pc to start from USB. Start the PC and the pendrive light comes on, I then get a message saying that the sata ports can't detect anything because I have disconnected everything until I get the dos screen to start flashing the drive. I hit F1 to continue with the pendrive, the pendrive light comes on, then goes off and nothing happens.
Using the NTFS4DOS cd, it starts to boot then comes up with a message which says UMB's unavailable........ invalid opcode at F118.................................. and that's the end of that.
I've tried the cd on my laptop and it runs fine but the laptop doesn't have a sata port so it's no good to me.
Has anybody come across this problem and if so, how did you overcome it. I've tried every possible way I can for the last 6 hours and I am still no closer to getting this done.

I've tried a different USB port and still no joy. I'm still puzzled about the ntfsdos cd not working. Does anyone know what this Invaldi Opcode message is. I've tried downloading different ntfsdos files and it does the same in each.
The disk works with my laptop but it has no sata ports. Could I buy a usb to sata cable?

I have not tried it out yet, maybe tonight when i get home. has anyone else tried the VT6421A yet? (I am sure this has been asked 1000 times, I have not had time to research this yet, I am at work) I saw a guy on newwgg said it worked, I rather have that confirmed here.

Unfortunately I don't remember how I was able to get it to work after a week of trial and error.
But I just upgraded my board to the A8N SLI Deluxe and it won't recognize my friends MS25.
It seems to hang after it gets to the Select XTREME Master or Slave.
I am using the USB method, using 5.2b, and made a new bootable drive using the Xtreme Boot Maker.
It selected my NForce 4 chipset correctly and formated the pen drive without any issues.
Here are the steps that I did...
1. Plugged 360 SATA into the SATA1 drive on the board. Nothing else is plugged into any SATA or IDE slots.
2. Started 360 and waited 15 seconds for it to fully boot.
3. Started PC and booted off USB drive.
4. At the prompt, typed in SAMREAD xxxxxxxx xxxxxx
5. Brings up screen to select either 1: XTREME PRI MASTER and 2: XTREME PRI SLAVE.
6. Select 1 since the MS25 is the only thing plugged into the system on the SATA1.
7. Stops right there and doesn't read the drive.
Any suggestions on what to do now?

BTW Bravo1 you need to use enable0800 disc for firmwares 4.x or above.Just burn it into a DVD+R DL and plug 360's sata to pc,put the disc and wait for 15 sec and go on with the rest of the flashing.

If you haven't flashed it before -as i believe nforce 4 chipset is compatible with ms25- i recommend you turning 360 on after your pc is done with booting.Try using hexedited mtkflash as i stated in my very first topic.

You are doing a great job helping people out it seems. I was wondering if you could help me? Here is my setup:
xbox 360 premium, sata cable extension , samsung ms28, rosewill VT6421A with newest driver, raid disabled
I went by the 'textbook' turorial:
I used a usb stick formatted with the xtreme boot maker 3.6. Turned on PC, booted to dos. Powered on 360 and detected it. did the 10 second trick, and the flash went perfect. I used samread/samhack. Went perfectt. It then ran a program called Keycheck, to verify the hack.bin was patched with the key from orig.bin. Then It said something like "success, now remove sata, power cycle xbox and PC". So I did just that. I then connected back up my PC hard drive (using onboard sata), put in the activate.iso disc which i burned on a dual layer dvd+r, and let it spin for about 10 seconds. It starts to Scan Devices. Then I get an error!
HardWare Initiate failed, Please Check Device!!!
The bios does not be installed. Press <g> to continue!
If I press g, it does nothing. I tried to wait a shorter and longer lenth when booting, but same error. I'm assuming my hardware is setup fine, since it let me flash the drive. I'm just trying to get into windows so I can see the drive and start making a backup. Should I try the onboard SATA, (ich6 chipset), or maybe boot to windows and then hotplug the 360 after running activate.iso. Is there a difference between activate iso and xtreme0800.iso? Hope you can help out dude!!

I've never heard about activate.iso. You need enable0800.iso burnt into a Dual Layer Dvd+R.Put into the 360's drive, let it spin for 15sec then go on with flashing.

So to flash a Samsung drive with ms28 firmware, I need to have a VIA VT6421L or A card period, correct? Tutorials always say compatible SATA chipsets and stuff and I thought my nForce 3 onboard SATA was compatible but turned out false. Can someobdy explain this?

Your sata controller is fully compatible with ms25 but not with ms28.The card you're buying is a raid card.It works with ms28 but you need to disable raid.I'm sure you can see how to disable raid in its manual.If you can find the same card without raid go for it.

edit: yea, and xtreme boot maker doesnt say sata, it just say VIA VT8237R RAID controller, and some other things.

should he just buy one from one of the ebay places over in the uk? since the egg seems to be sending out the raid version even though they are marked as non-raid, even the sticker says non-raid....

instead of risking it he is going to just buy one of the 6421 non raid cards from ebay...cheaper than replacing a 360 drive if it comes to that...

I just use a samsung dvd drive with kreon firmware to backup my games anyway .
I suggest your friend to try it , worst that can happen is it not recognizing the drive under dos and not be able to read the firmware , it won't damage it as per my experience .

I have today used the textbook method and V5.2d FW (is this the best one to use?) to flash my Sammy MS25 drive everything seemed to go ok but i am getting a "please put this disc into an Xbox 360 Drive" error.
I still have the key safe so can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong or is it better to try it again with Myfranco's method or can i just use the orig.bin file and inject it in some other way?
If so do i need to do anything else as it is preflashed now with textbooks method?.

i will convey the info but i think he ordered a 6421a card and a 6421l card, both non-raid. he got them cheap so it is not big deal, and he can use them in other computers anyway that he has (has a couple old machines that don't have sata on them and needed a card for them anyway since he doesn't want to buy pata hdds anymore). i set him up with one of the samsung/kreon odd i sell

Thanks for your reply.
I have now tried again using the Enable/activate iso and have reflashed the drive using the textbook method again and extrem 5.2d
I have checked the key is in the Extrem firmware and it is but i am still getting the error "Please put this disc into a 360 to play" and i also get it using Xbox 1 originals too it says "please insert this disc into an xbox to play".
There is definately numbers and letters that the key is made up of but it looks like the drive is bricked to me but i don't know how....
If the drive is bricked would it still read the Enable disc?
If the key is incorrect and that is the only one i have is there any way to check it is right or recover it to the correct key or am i stuffed....
Your help is greatly appreciated....

US....and some of the places oversees that my buddies have used don't do the best packaging that lead to bad drives, thus i found a place that ships very well, and then i flash them and test every drive to verify it can rip one of my orginals.

Do you mean a via chipset on-board or a PCI card with via chipset? Many people in this thread are claiming that you can not flash the ms28 without buying the VIA 6421 PCI card. I'd like to know if you were successful using an on-board via sata chipset for flashing the ms28 and what version of the via chipset you have.

As far as i know, via 8237 can be used to flash ms28.

I get to mtkflash okay, and the 28 drive is detected okay, but as soon as i type mtkflash r /m and choose the right one, it doesn't do anything.
I've tried with a connectivety kit and through the regular xbox.
Will i have to invest in a Via sata card?

You forgot to copy your key.Copy your key from your orig.bin to xtreme.bin and reflash with xtreme.bin.If you get confused ,follow my first post on this topic.

I think you misread what this dude wrote.. he is saying he flashed a ms28 using his onboard sata controller, which is not a VIA card. Or are you saying that in order to flash it back to original, you need the VIA card?
This excites me cause I have the same sata chipset and was just about to buy a card. I will try my roommates ms28 with my ICH5 chipset and 10 second rule and post up my results (or is this old news?)

I know my drive is a Samsung but I havn't opened it up yet so I don't know if its a MS25 or MS28.
I took a screenshot of Xtreme Boot Maker and I was wondering since my onboard SATA has been detected if it would work with a MS28 drive ? If not I will go and buy a VIA card.
Note that I am using Xtreme Boot Maker v0.5.0.0 because I tried V0.3.6.14220 and when I try to load the firmware it wouldn't load and I get an "unknown firmware" error.
Also one last noobie question, which option of the Xtreme Firmware is most common ? A,B,C or D ? From reading Textbook's PDF file I would of went with option A but from what I've been reading options B and C seem more common.

After following the instructions to make the disc it comes time to boot to DOS. I restart, have my system off and boot w the floppy. It goes like this:
Starting Windows 98...
Please choose an interpreter(ie C:\WINDOWS\Command.com
I'm aware it's on the floppy but it's not picking it up for some reason...
I'm not sure exactly what to do from here.... Any suggestions please?
If you're curious if I followed the bootfloppy making instructions I have. It's not hard to click some checks and select the same visuals in the drop downs listed.

UPDATE - just to see what would happen i selected the XTREME pri master option and low and behold it worked (actually i had a floppy in the drive for testing and i hit the 3 and it started to read the firmware without the 10sec trick, it just read it to my surprise, then i did it the "correct" way with a usb drive - don't want to flash from a floppy if i don't have too. i also used the /sata switch too just to make sure. i don't know if i missed this in all the reading but am glad i tried it out. and i have tested it to work with both backups and orginals, both of which seem to boot at the same speed
i really hope this helps somebody out as it took me nearly 3hrs to figure it out....

myfranco - do you think you could ask the mods to add that part in about the xtreme pri master as i was looking for the card itself - as in 6421 or something to that effect like i have seen on the videos....being that i do have access to 4 running machines (3 desktops and a laptop that had the videos and this tut on it
) here and have 3 cards i was able to test it out, but somebody who only has 1 machine may find that since it is not showing up as their 6421 card they are screwed. on my very first try i saw the xtreme pri master but went ahead with hours of trying to figure out how i could get it to say the actual 6421 card, or any chipset for that matter. i thouhg it had to do with the fact that my main rig has 15k scsi hdds, along with ide hdds and optical drives....and i was plugging/unplugging stuff for quite some time. so instead of 5mins, it was many hours....just a thought

Yeah, I used orig.bin, I just wasn't paying attention when posting that. Yeah, hopefully somebody will chime iun on this before my new SATA card arrives in the next few days so I'll know exactly what to do.

yes, it says it in the tut to how to do the ms28 - just a bit further down. and that card should work - don't let them fool you - the 6421A card is not rare, it is the new chipset replacing the 6421L card (just an fyi) and you could probably get one cheaper since it is in british pounds ( i can't remember where you are from) so the syba from newegg wouuld work fine.
getting your computer to bott via the usb will be somewhere in the bios - like boot from other device, boot from removeable media, etc. definately make the usb drive first and give it a go so that when your stuff gets there you know how to boot via floppy.
also, when i did my 28 the option to boot from a particualar chipset wasn't an option once booted from the 360 - mine said boot from xtreme pri master, so another fyi

If you have a ms28 you should certainly buy a via6421 card.Read the previous posts you will find lots of info.

It's really overpriced.They are just advertising the card more than what it is.Buy a simple via6421 card and you'll be fine.

"Firmware version not supported" is not an error.It's because that firmware (probably 5.2) is not in its own database.
"the device is not compatible with mtkflash" is an error.It seems that your drivers are not up to date.You better download the latest drivers for your motherboard.

Tried with two motherboards, one asus k8s-la salmon with a sis 964 chipset which has native support with mktflash..no go after running the command, it would hang there and I get 00 should be 70. After finding the supported guide it said does not work on sata 1 and 2 use 3 and 4. instead.well i only have two ports...decided to move on
So tried on motherboard #2 which is MSI K8N NEO3-F NFORCE4. the drive shows up in bios.. Disconnected ./disabled all ide channels drive hooked up to sata 1. followed the guide used xtreme boot maker 3.6.14220

I'm hoping you can help me.
I have a ms25 drive. My mobo is a gigabyte 81945p pro which I believe is ICH7? In extreme boot maker the only option whcih it will fill in the fields for without error is ITE IT8212 ATA RAID Controller. Hopefully that is my sata?
after booting, I can see that my mobo is recognising the drive when it does the ide scans etc..but after typing mtkflash r /m orig.bin the prog hangs and doesnt appear to be finding the drive.
Any suggestions?

What about this guide by textbook, he says you can use numerous chipsets..I believe the nforce 4 i have is a sil 3114 which is lsited to work as wel las my other motherboard sis 964..

I beleive thats the compatibility list for MS25 flashing. MS28 NEEDS the VIA6421 chipset. I just ordered http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16816132009 from Newegg, and in the reviews nearly every other person says "used to flash my 360."

Why are you taking such risks? If you have ms25 or ms28, via6421 is perfect.It only costs $20 including shipping and you're fine. Don't try vcc trick or lose time if your onboard sata is incompatible. It's your personal choice to do whatever you want to do but you're risking it for $20. Wait for 3 days plug it and follow the tutorial.

I boot with xbox on first, the drive detects..i d othe mktflash r /m orig.bin
it detects my sata chans..and then i flip the switch and press enter
and it still just hangs
except that instead of 00 shoudl be 70 like before I get 80 should be 70
Okay tested on the sis 964 get the same results..
it detects the sis 964 chipset..switch the vcc to off..press enter wait a lil and switch on...it keeps hangign there
escape out and now it also says
port: ac00 master/slave: a0
Status=80, should be 70
ERR: user break
What am I doing wrong?

Its not really a risk if you know what your doing
. This on a scale of 1-10 if you have soldering expereince 10 being the hardest is about a 3, just have to be careful not to take the pad off, and do not attempt without proper tools. I already have the switch soldered drive closed and connected mounted by some hot glue to the top of the drive.I have had no problems with any other drives and my chipsets, and I'm more of an instant gratification type of person. I really hate waiting, plus always the risk of delays etc, could be next week by the time I get my card. it doesnt seem like the local retail stores have any via based sata cards(from searching thier sites best buy, office depot, staples, compusa)..I need to call up some computer shops and see what is available.
What does error 80 mean?

I actually successfully flashed today after a little more research.
I used the samsung auto flasher but replaced the mtkflash in the /firmware/general folder with the ich7/intel mtkflash..this then worked faultlessly and I've tested the machine for hours now with no problems.
I hope this will help other noobs like myslef.
My mobo was gigabyte 81945p pro which is ich7r chipset. my drive was an ms25. I used samsung autoflasher and replaced the mtkflash as above.

I went ahead and ordered a card from tekgems hopefully it will come before the end of the week.
I should note I was also able to get "status = 51, should be 70" on top of that 80 after VCC ...
During tons of reading I saw that some ppl even with 6421 cards were getting as far as I was with the same error codes and symptoms, couldnt read/flash... The solution: they used the original dvd sata cable which is like 1inch and it started workign where before it hanged and gave those errors... must have had the connectivity kit as there is no way i would be able to hook that up to xbox power and my mobo.
I am thinking of splicing the extra dvd power cable i have to a 12volt once I find the pinout diagrams..but it's too much hassle already. Might do that if the card doesn't get here by saturday. Will let you knwo how it goes.

Trying all day with MS-28 connected into VIA 6421L sata card and waiting until into DOS to power up XBox and could not get drive to recognize or connect that way. Then was able to follow rest of tut by myfranco and was smooth as silk!

I tried xtreme boot maker 3.6 and 5.3 but i got the same errors with both when i try to DETECT ID/IO PORT
It's something about msinfo and not able to parse, etc...
any ideas??

i start the first part of flashing the drive when booting from my USB drive.
I type "SAMREAD ____ ____" (that being the SN)
IT SAYS THT DIRECTORIES ALREADY EXIST, ETC ...then..

Xtreme Bootmaker... I couldn't get it to detect my I/O ports, and I tried hundreds of times. I launched MSINFO32, and then hit detect, and it came up each time that was open....
I had to start the PC, 360 DVD plugged in and powered on, otherwise DOS/PC would hang (and constantly beep) if I turned the xbox on after the PC was powered on. It would beep after the flash as well
10 seconds trick.... more like .10 seconds. I'd select the # corresponding to the sata card, and I'd have to hit the power on button right away (1 hand on the keyboard, the other hand on power button for the 360)

And have flashed a few hitachi drives before
I boot to usb type in mtkflash r /m ORIG.BIN
and if i have an ide dvd drive plugged in it detects 2 drives however not one of the drives detected has via 6421 in the name, and if i only have my samsung drive plugged in it doesnt detect any.
I try dumping the firmware from the drive i think is the samsung and do the 10 second drive and nothing happens it doesnt even attempt to dump the f/w
I have made many attempts at the ten second trick
I also have a friend with the same problem
any suggestions?

I purchased the same card in you link via e-bay (VIA-VT6421A) what did you do to get the card detected/listed? I am using the USB method and followed Myfranco's directions with the new version of Xtreme Boot Maker Version: 0.5.3 (RC1). The VIA-VT6421A is detected by Windows and within the Xtreme Boot Maker Software. It however is not detected when booting from the USB drive. Is there anything I need to set in the computers BIOS I am using an IBM A50 computer.
I read something on Grim's forum thread for troubleshooting.

Never mind I got it to work last night. However I did find some other tutorial information insightful.
I suggest updating your main post to include.
Disconnect all IDE and SATA devices.
After typing: mtkflash r /m orig.bin Then (Turn off your 360)
Select the Xtreme Flasher Master Then (Wait 10 seconds then turn on your 360)
Also I noticed with the initial flash it stopped at 1 percent. I waited for about a minute and hit escape. Then went through the same flash routine until it finished. The second time it went to 8 percent. I did it again and it finished. On the fourth attempt it flashed 100 percent on the first try.

i prepaired it using extreme bootmaker, i ticked the options and selected my sata chipset, i also used the xtreme 5.2 b firmware, i also loaded the latested customised files on to my usb, cant remember which 2 but i know it added a keylogger file

If you see no problem about it then thick all the options and make it detect via 6421 chipset in bootmaker.After that turn pc off and unplug whatever you have as dvd and hard drive.Turn 360 on and then your pc.Type mtkflash r /m orig.bin and if you see xtreme master ,you're done.If you have ms28,right before choosing extreme master turn 360 off,hit your choice then wait 10 sec(5-10 sec) and turn 360 on.I see no reason to not be able to flash your drive.If you have raid controller on your pc try to disable it and use the internal connection of 6421 not external one.

dont use a floppy disk, too risky, .
i would disable ide channels in bios if you can't boot from usb pen
also do not choose to boot usb pen from a popup boot menu, change to first boot device in bios.
Nforce4 no good for samsung, but worked on Hitachi for me
make sure you got an av cable plugged into your 360 or it will power itself off because it dont think its being used.
if your still not sure, look for textbooks guide, i think its a adobe .pdf document.

I followed your guide and I've successfully updated my MS28 to 5.2A.
I bought a Via 6421L chipset card and it work straight away so easy.
It's pretty much as easy as flashing my other MS25 DVDROM.

One other thing I noticed is that if I had a loose sata cable attached to the Via pci card before shutting down, it wouldn't register the xbox drive during mtkflash. Had to plug one in after shutdown.....
Also (although I think it doesn't matter) but you don't need to use Boke's patch if it's a Sammy MS25 drive?

I successfully flashed an ms28 drive using the via 6421. Dumping and flashing xtremefw was fine. I used the newest xtreme boot maker that came with xread and xflash commands. No problems there. Also I used a usb pen drive to boot into.
Here is the problem. I tried doing a second 360 the exact same way, nothing dif. I was able to dump the orig.bin using samread. I then continued on and power cycled the 360 to attempt xflash. at the moment I turned off the 360 right before choosing the Via xtreme option, it appeared to be flashing the drive, but how is this possible if the 360 was off. I tried the whole process of flashing over, and now it appears my 360 has no fw at all on it and cannot do anything. Obviously I can't dump the fw, cuz there isn't any there to dump. I retried the flash and also with dif timings, no luck. I think it was a problem somewhere using xread and sam hack off the newest xtreme bootmaker cuz I opend orig.bin with 360 fw toolbox and I do have the original keys there. But when I opened the modified bin, it gave me an error. the filesize was 0 kb. It appears that the hacked fw never made it. So I picked up on the tutorial from myfranco and stated off with copying the key from orig.bin and pasting it to xtreme 5.2, wich is wat I had selected in bootmaker without issues. I them reopened the hacked fw with toolbox, and it had the keys from my orig.bin, so I was good to go. I then contnued on by booting into dos from the pendrive and used mtkflash as such, and it does nothing. It's frozen , can't flash. I tried dif timings again, and still no luck. Is my drive dead because it has no fw on it? It seems impossible , thats the whole purpose of flashing no? Anyways under mtkflash i do see the via xtreme option, I have tried with all my hd's and dvdroms plugged in and unplugged, same outcome.
Is there someone that I could maybe send my drive to for them to flash it for me. I still have the orig.bin that got dumped from it. Or do you think it's dead. Also is it possible to buy a replacement "virgin" dvdrom , preferably toshiba, and flash that with my orig.bin keys??
Any help will be greatly appreciated !!!
BTW when I boot the 360 up , it gives me the error code 65 i think it is. The one for bad fw or something.

I don't really understand too much what is going on in that other link you posted, but I have a new question... will doing the vcc trick work you think, on my "dead" ms28 drive? And might you point me where I can get my drive reprogrammed, that might be my only solution. I will never use sam read or xread again. Gonna stick with what you suggest in your tut. MTKFLASH from now on, and replacing the keys myself. Only way to be sure it ALL gets done correctly prior to the flash.

Among them this guy is flashing for $10 for 360.You can just send the pcb of your dvd drive and your problem will be solved.As you have the key there won't be any problem.

The addition of the "/sata" in the command line saw me ms28 drive after that. If that doesn't work: you say you boot into dos and then wait 10 seconds to turn on the 360 - in DOS you should enter the read firmware command line (the mtkflash orig.bin line) with the 360 turned on, press "enter" and when the options to select primary/secondary sata devices comes up turn off the 360, select your sata option (1 or 2 etc) and count 10 seconds, then boot the console - also you might want to try the via6421a or via 6421l pci board if this fails - the ms28 i think generally won't be seen with any other chipset (see the faqs at the top of this forum)
@xbox_shadow: maybe that your current setup won't see the ms28/25 - always best to start with a via6421 pci card and then troubleshoot from there - only costs a few £/$'s
No expert myself obviously and I hope this helps.....

@onefastgsxr777 you didn't exactly get 10 sec trick.Turn 360 on then turn pc on , type mtkflash r /m orig.bin ,hit enter ,when the options comes up , turn 360 off, select 2nd option,wait for 10 sec(can be between 7-10) then turn 360 on.
@xbox_shadow it seems that your sata drivers are not setup.You can download from its web site and create a disk and setup it.You can just flash ms25 but you need to buy via 6421 sata card for ms28.

but I was lucky enough to only have to read to 8 pages before I got mine working.
And the more its said the easier it is for people to find.)
I bought a VIA VT6421 set it up in windows and made my boot disk, but when booting from to DOS and running mtkflash it could not find the drive.
I thought that from all the other posts I read that the card was no good as it was a cheap raid card(no manual or website for support) and had no ability to disable raid.
All that was needed to make it work in DOS was to load the latest VIA drivers in windows before creating the boot disk.
I used VIA 5.30c from the via site

my concerns are -
1. should i upgrade to the new version of xbm?
2. w/ the extreme f/w i have d/ld from the usual place, there is a version that says 52c_ms25.bin (or something like that) and also xtreme52c.bin (i personally have good luck with the C version and therefore continue to use it). now with my ms28s i choose the xtreme52c.bin and all is good. when i select the 52c_ms25.bin in xbm 3.x i get an error in xbm stating that the chosen firmware is not correct and to be careful. when i select the xtreme52c.bin it comes up ok.
3. the issue is that once i have read the original firmware, firmware toolbox 2.0 shows the original is from a ms25 and shows the key. this is exptected as it is a ms25 drive. now when i open up the firmware that is on the usb flashdrive that is created w/ the xtreme52c.bin from within xbm, it shows that it will be for the ms28, which concerns me.
4. is the goal to make the drive a ms28 or keep it a ms25? if the goal is to keep the drive a ms25, how is that accomplished with the given tools? do i need new tools?
i have searched and have not had luck finding an answer to the situation i have, so please assist

1. no you don't have to.I'm still using 0.36.
2.That's an error message you can ignore.That firmware is not in the database of xbm therefore is giving that error.
3.Put your orig.bin into xtreme52 folder and double click "Make Xtreme firmware.cmd" choose "c" and "b" for 5.2c and ms25 spoofing.
4.if it's a ms25 drive,you need to spoof as a ms25.Xtreme52 is ms28 based firmware and if you don't spoof,you get E66 error. Just do the 3rd option.
BTW,it's not important what firmware you choose with xbm.Choose whatever you like and when you dump orig.bin just do the 3rd option and copy new bin file which is created with "Make Xtreme firmware.cmd" into memory stick.Check if the key is copied with toolbox 2.0 or 3.0

3.Put your orig.bin into xtreme52 folder and double click "Make Xtreme firmware.cmd" choose "c" and "b" for 5.2c and ms25 spoofing.
4.if it's a ms25 drive,you need to spoof as a ms25.Xtreme52 is ms28 based firmware and if you don't spoof,you get E66 error. Just do the 3rd option.
BTW,it's not important what firmware you choose with xbm.Choose whatever you like and when you dump orig.bin just do the 3rd option and copy new bin file which is created with "Make Xtreme firmware.cmd" into memory stick.Check if the key is copied with toolbox 2.0 or 3.0

I had probs getting mtkflash to see my VIA SATA card, after a few hours I swapped PCI slots and plugged the DVD Rom into port one and its done

With the first attemp im read dvdrom flash, but when i reboot my system to DOS (to load hached flash) and switch on my box, there is a message:
"An internal stack overflow has caused this session to be halted

Yes,just patching the key is enough. ixtreme 1.2 has slow and fast loading options so that choose the file you like and patch your key then flash it.

I have just got my replacment dvd drive and had all the firmware ready got the usb bootable drive working went to get my orig.bin with mtkflash r/m orig.bin and it say failed to open input file after selecting my VIA8237

When i push the button 'list SCSI Controller' i get 4 choices: 2 uninteresting Controller, my onboard sil3112 and the via vt6421 Raid Controller.
if i choose the via one, xbm cant find the corresponding ID. Only the IO is listed. Then i get the error: 'an error occoured while querying for WMI data: allgemeiner fehler'.
with iprep i can make a boot disk, but then my pc wont boot to dos.
with xbm i cant make a boot disk with following error: "index and length refer to a location within the string. Parameter name: length".
so, does someone has a idea how to fix this problem?

This is the first time i've heard this error.If net framework 2.0 and via drivers are installed,i recommend you to check the official forum of XBM.

the problem was, that windows assigned two deviced on one irq. i disabled my onboard sound and then xbm filled both fields right.
now i got another problem.
i connected my xbox to the via adapter and after booting while detecting the ide drives, my pc went in to a black mask. after severel secs it said something like 'devices not known. bios not installed'.
after passing this text, xbm booted and i typed xRead. after that, i was only able to choose between ide master and ide slave.
next i'll try to update my bios.
does someone has a other theory??(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

If you have any firmware with your key no prob.Just flash 1.2 ixtreme with XBM and bypass the error message that your firmware is not recognised(when opening 1.2 with XBM).

Now a friend told me that when u flash with extreme guess u cant read off of it is there anyway i can get the SS key from the drive at all.

That works great except for the fact when it was in the middle of flashing bank 3 it hung at 00% forever. This makes a nice drive(paperweight) I have the sata card 6421 , have the orig.bin, have mtkflash w/iprep, have been tring to fix for 3 days now. No problem reconizing the drive from MTKFLASH
1.IDE Sec Master
2.XTREME Pri Master
Then at this point is where I have tried a million combantions.
10sec trick, press 2, then turn on 360, watching the clock 10 sec, I just can not get flash ORIG.Bin to Start.
And yes i do have my ORIG.BIN Idump worked fine.
Is this just a dead drive now??? By the way I am in IT.

You can use mtkflash E to erase the firmware then you can flash without 10 sec for ms25(with 10 sec for ms28).It's impossible to brick a samsung while flashing even though flashing goes wrong.Try mtkflash E two times to make sure it's erased(do it with 2 reboots)
RichMR2 believe it or not,iprep has issues.Using mtkflash is the best way to flash

However, I got an interesting situation with a ms28 that I tried to flash.
Followed your tutorial to the T. Everything went well as far as reading and writing hacked firmware (xtreme 3.3). I assumed everything went well.
Power cycled xbox 360 still connected to PC (using a pci sata controller with via 6421 raid) and xbox 360 went into the dashboard. (this was done accidentally, I forgot to unplug the SATA cable leading to the PC and plug the xbox's sata cable back into the xbox's dvd drive) No biggie. So I powered everything down unplugged the sata from the pc and the back of the xbox and plugged in the xbox's sata cable into the back of the ms28 drive. I rebooted xbox then I get error 66 with solid red light in the right bottom corner. Here is the quirky part: when I take the xbox's sata cable out of the ms28 and connect the xbox back to the pc with a normal sata cable the xbox boots into the dashboard without the error. I flashed it back to the original firmware using your method and everything is back to normal. I tried to whole process again with fresh download of hacked firmware xtreme 3.3 and I get the same results. I am back to original firmware.
all my files are from xbins so they should be fine.
I think my problem is that my xbox is refurbished. It seems to have been refurbished by microsoft (recently purchased from Microcenter). Originally, it must of had a different model of dvd drive that broke and when it was sent to be refurbished they replaced whatever dvd drive with a ms28. Is there any way to tell from the motherboard what the original dvd drive's model was? I assume I can overcome this by spoofing the hacked firmware but there are like 7 or 8 different dvd drives for the xbox. You got any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

You need to have a via 6421 sata card to flash ms28.However,even if you have a ms25,as it's flashed,you need to unlock the firmware guard so that you need via 6421 again(you can do it with enable0800 disk for ms25 but i highly recommend a via card for the easiest flashing)

If you have a ms28,i recommend you to use ixtreme 1.2revc from xbins.Just put your orig.bin into fast or quiet folder of ixtreme1.2 and create the hacked firmware which is ix12.bin.After that,you can flash that firmware and you should be fine.Your problem is the drive is reported as ms25 so that you get E66.

today I recieved my via card so I installed and updated the drivers, I iprep my usb pen with the latest FW followed an excellent tut and that was successful, I changed my boot sequence and was able to get to my dos screen also removed any other drivers and disabled my sil3114 onboard Raid. Hooked my 360 up in what ive learnt the right way...
First I tried iDump (serial) but that just says general failure writing drive C
I then enter mtkflash r /m orig.bin and am given the option of choosing only 1: EXTREME Pri Master
wich i choose and it fails...
so i tried the 10sec trick a few times and it failed and stopped on 1%
any ideas on why it aint working?? Like i say ive tried looking but ive been at this all day...would be awesome to get some prof. help!!!

They're both same.you can use 0.5.3

I don't use iprep,idump,samxxx etc..
The best one is mtkflash.If your drive was flashed before,try this:
Prepare your usb stick with the tutorial i've made.
Turn 360 on and then pc
Try mtkflash r /m orig.bin
choose the port and see what happens.If this doesn't work,turn pc on first to dos and then 360
try same thing again.
If those don't work at all,you need to use 10 sec trick.Before chooisng your port,turn 360 off and choose your port.Count to 10 and turn 360 on.

I think there are two things causing trouble:
1- Your flash disk might have bad sector(s).You can check that by formatting it and copying a file like 700-800mb and then copy it back to your harddrive.
2-Your sata cable might be broken.Try your harddrive's sata cable or any sata cable that works.

Checked on both of those. I copied over a 800mb file to the flash and then back to HD, no bytes were missing and it worked fine. I used 3 different SATA cables, including the one on my HD right now. No go.

Could this be it? Although its not in RAID, according to Asus's website, my MoBo uses Sillicon Image RAID drivers (Silicon Image 3114 SATA RAID driver V1.1.9.9 for Windows XP(WHQL)/2K/2003). I was confused since it is a NForce 4 SLI chipset. The manual has this in it under mobo spec summary:

- 4 Serial ATA 3Gb/s drivers

I switched back and forth between:
This walk through on Flash Drive and Floppy drive using every suggestion I could find.
Textbooks walk though on flash, CD & HD, and finally on Floppy.
This took around 20 hours of time.
Keep at it and eventually something will work.

All is good thanks. I selected the standard dual pci ide controller as it was the only 1 to work and give me the chanel id in xtreme boot maker. I made my boot drive with Xtreme 5.3c. I chose c as it starts as default fast to read dvd+rw DL.
when I typed the mtkflash command, I got 2 options. extreme controller and via vt8237. I chose the first 1. It read my firmware. then back to windows to use xbox firmware toolbox ver2.0. extracted my key. backed it up. wrote it down. emailed it etc. then opened the 5.3 firmware and pasted and replaced the key. flashed my ms28 drive and it said it was done sucessfully.
tested with back of my moh airbourne assult and working fine.
I am just dl an arcade game from xbox live atm. so that is still working as well

-Before chooisng extreme primary or secondary master turn 360 off
-Make your selection
-Wait 10 sec and tur 360 on.
you do the same for flashing too.This is called "10 sec trick"
It can be different timing sometime such as ~12-15-18 sec.

You need to use clonecd or imgburn.While burning you need to choose the *.dvd file for the layerbreak.Most people use imgburn(free and easy)

ive got it reading. was something to do with my settings of pc.
ive managed to read the firmware from the ms28.
now im trying to write i get msg saying ERR: fail to open input file.
I am doing the 10 sec trick and spellings are correct.
any ideas?

I'm gonna try flashing it at a friend tomorrow. He has a standard nforce4 chipset.

Most possibly,your drive is already flashed.If so,you can not directly flash your drive without unlocking the firmware.For now and your future problems,i recommend you to buy a via 6421 sata card.If you can't buy it at the moment,find an old firmware pack like 3.x or 4.x and burn the enable.iso into a dual layer dvd.Before mtkflashing,put that dvd into xbox 360 and wait for 15 sec(sata cable is connected to pc).After that,mtkflash will be unlocked.

That's exactly how I did it and still do it. Only had 1 problem and that was when it didn't spoof my MS25 (user error, I must have overlooked the question when it asked) but even that was easily fixable. iPrep does work wonders but there are some who it doesn't work for so it does help to have another way of doing it.

I don't think it's been flashed before, since it's brand new... I know I'm the first one to open it, and break the microsoft sticker.

Really? I didn't know that.You're very smart guy.We need guys like you in this forum.We're looking forward to seeing your iprep tutorial with pictures.Ahh i forgot,there will be lots of questions about anyting goes wrong.I'm sure you can respond to all these questions with hundreds of p.m. a year.
BTW,did you check when this topic has started and iprep came out? Would give you a hint.

Yes it is essential to open the 360 in my opinion. The screws are tight and you need the right tool to unscrew them. However, There is another option. You can use a flat head screwdriver if the head is small enough, but I doubt the average person will have such a tiny flat head. So just go to home depot like I did and buy one for $5 because I tried and I don't think anything else will work (alan wrench, etc...)

Here's what I got:
I have an XFX 680i motherboard with an Nforce 590/570/550 Onboard SATA controller. I am assuming this chipset should work with the MS25's based on what I've read here and elsewhere. I used Xtreme Boot Maker 3.5 to create my USB flash with no problems (seemingly). I used the first sata selection in conjunction with the first in my device manager:
After the USB was prepped, I restarted, booted to the USB ran "mtkflash r /m orig.bin"
Got the select one drive with 2 XTREME choices - 1 and 2. (I made sure to disconnect EVERYTHING except the XBOX drive and the USB drive!) Either selection gives me the I/o address and either a0 or b0 and it just sits there.
I have spent the last 3 days reading every single post on this thread and tried everything: replaced sata cables, tried every sata port, tried every sata controller selection in XBM, tried the 5-10-15-20-30 etc second trick, tried powering the xbox on before powering the pc on and after booting to dos.
I am at a point where I am about to give up. Honestly I don't want to have to buy an extra SATA card if I don't have to, but if it's necessary.....
I looked in my bios and RAID is disabled. But what about the 'eSata' options. SHould they be turned off?
Also, I noticed that the one SATA HD that I have (and used that sata connection to the XBOX) is on the secondary channel of the first SATA controller. Would this be an issue as well?

Trying to flash an M25 but I'm getting nowhere. First, Xtreme boot maker v3.6 fails to make a bootable drive. Is this program compatible with iXtreme 1.4? I then tried with bootable CD with NTFS4Dos with files on Hard Drive, went to the correct directory, typed the "read"command mtkflash r /m original.bin, displays 2 options (IDE Pri Master and XTREME Pri Master). I select option 2, then Port: c800, Master/slave: a0 comes up and it just hangs there. If I hit ESC it says Status=41, should be 70, ERR:user break.
So frustrating! Please, what is the latest method? Why do I get the fail to make bootable drive? The same happens with iPrep. Working with the VIA chipset.

I flashed my Ms28 end of last year successfully, which eventually RRoD on me. I got a new Xbox360 and the DVD drive went bad. Now moving the Ms28 into new Xbox360. Using my new drive key I replaced the old key. Then I flashed the Ms28 using the "Myfranco" method.
I selected "1 xtreme Primary" and it flashed all banks then asked me to reboot PC. I turned it off. I turned off the Xbox360 and hooked up the SATA back to the console.
When booting the Xbox360, it gives one red indicator in the lower right quadrant (Xbox360 is horizontal) and does not give any video out.
Possible reasons why?
1: Did I need to erase the Ms28 firmware first?
2: Is my hacked firmware source unreliable? (Usual places)
3: ??
