Title: -upgrade Ms28 Drive From 4.2 To 5.0
Post by: zaic3k on December 20, 2006, 08:01:00 PM
I have a Toshiba Samsung ms28 drive flashed with Xtreme 4.2a firmware. I want to upgrade it to 5.0. Previously I did it with VCC Trick. How can I update it ? Now I have VIA Sata controller.

I have found faq for Via chipset (bad flash method) and there is a question, when do I have to put DVD Enable0800 in ?

I always put the 0800 in as soon as I get to DOS. I've also tried inserting it as soon as I powered on the 360, which also worked fine.

I just use the Xtreme Boot Maker, the NTFS dos cd (or boot from USB), and do the recovery method, where you power off the 360 at the list of drives, press the number corresponding to the 360 drive, count to 10, and power the 360 back on - I did a samread then samwrite as per the standard method of flashing a ms28 from stock to 4.2.

Hope that helps - treat it like a default stock ms28 getting modded.

Does this mean you can skip using the 0800 disc? by using the bad flash method?

I have a samsung ms25 drive flashed with 4.2a.

A quick question...

I don't have an enable 0800 disc and want to flash to 5.0a.

Is there a way to do this? I read above about bad flash method??? What is this?

Any help appreciated.

Jim_1979, the "bad flash" technique is only applicable to MS28 versions of the drive. In your case you're going to need to have a 0800 DVD, otherwise you're out of luck. It's something you can burn yourself if you get the ISO.

Yes you can use the Bad Flash method with a ms25 drive flashed with 4.x, but you have to have the VIA VT6421L chipset otherwise just burn the 0800 disc to DL Dvd (it came with xtreme 4.x fw package).

Just burn the 0800.iso disc that came with your 4.2 Firmware. Make sure to use CloneCD and burn the disc on a Dual Layer disc.
