Title: Via Vt6421a - No Drive Detected
Post by: addisj on December 06, 2006, 04:12:00 AM
Please help!

I have connected my 2 port sata card to the PC (VIA VT6421A chipset)

disabled all sata/ide ports in the BIOS and followed numerous guides.

When entering the read firmware command I just get 'no drive detected' come up really quickly.

I have tried powering off the 360 at the 'please wait' but it just sits there with 'no drive detected'

HELP!  anything else I can try?

I had a similar problem getting mtkflash to detect my sata card.  Here's what I did to make flash my ms28.

-Update latest drivers for your sata VIA card

-download latest xtreme firmware and extreme boot maker.  Use extreme boot maker to make a bootable mtkflash usb or floppy drive. (make sure you check both ms28 options in extreme boot maker)

-connect sata cable from xbox drive to the pc card (the internal slot closest to the front of the case)

-connect an IDE cable from the Sata card IDE slot to one of your CD or DVD computer drives.

-Boot up computer with USB or flash drive

A-t Command promt turn on the xbox

-type samread xxxxxxx xxxxx

-It should give you two optons something like 1.)Xtreme master 2.) Xtreme slave ( DO NOT SELECT ANY OPTIONS YET)

-Turn off the 360 then select opion 1 on the computer.....now wait for 10-15 seconds then turn the 360 back on.  It should start to read your ms28 bios.

-Repeat the same process with samhack command to flash your firmware.

arggg something weird just happened. it doesnt show me all the posts in each topic. just the main one and then a list at the bottom with replies. how to i fix this haha.

and here is a solution to your problem which should work... assuming you really did set your bios up correclty.

a) drivers are not important. you are in dos. drivers are for windows.
(IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) make sure you use the latest xtreme boot maker. if you have an ms28 make sure u use the 2 compatability mode checkboxes.
c) keep sata cable ungplugged from yoru 360. turn on the 360. boot to a: prompt off of floppy or usb or whatever. once booted, plug sata cable in.  run samread 1234567 12345. it should work.
d) if © doesnt work then do this: keep sata unplugged from 360. boot to a: prompt. turn on the 360. plug sata cable in after 360 is turned on. run samread 1234567 12345. should work.

Hey thanks for your replies - very helpful and yes its a MS28 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

From your words of wisdom I have managed to get the original firmware read....
how ever when I tried writing the hacked firmware it only completed Bank 1 and then failed on the rest of the banks.

When I tried to reflash it wouldnt see the drive   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Was so close!  Please tell me the drive isnt bricked.....????

If u have managed to dump ur original firmware then ur dvd is not bricked. If the via vt6421a as seen the dvd drive once b4 then there is no reason why it shud not see it now. Go through the exact same steps as u did b4.

TonyF11,

I'm here with addisj now.

We have overcome the drives not detected issue but when you power off, select option 1, then power back on, nothing happens, just says "port 1120, Master/Slave: a0"

If you press Esc, says Status = 00, should be 70.
